EXTEND THE WEEKEND

Network Ten announces an entirely new concept for Sunday nights, introducing the much anticipated return of ROVE to its line up from April 1.

With the move, TEN again redefines television viewing to provide the alternative audiences have come to expect from TEN.

Drama Sundays - an initiative set by TEN in 2003 - have since become the commercial network mainstay on television's biggest night of the week.

Now, TEN again shifts the agenda to big event TV, extending the light hearted feel of weekends and offering a real alternative to Sundays with live event television across the year like Big Brother, Australian Idol and now ROVE.

"TEN is all about offering audiences an alternative. We did it four years ago when we did away with Hollywood movies - then the Sunday night sacred cow – and introduced U.S. drama at 8.30pm. We now do it again with strong event TV built around ROVE - one of TEN's most iconic shows.

"I am thrilled Rove and his entire team have embraced this challenge to redefine television on Sunday nights, the most competitive night of the week. We think this new alternative to dramas will speak to our audience keen to squeeze in every last bit of that lighthearted weekend feel." said David Mott chief programming officer.

"We don't expect these changes to have an immediate radical impact on Sunday nights but are confident, given time, we can build it into a very strong and enjoyable alternative for viewers," said Mr Mott.

Roving Enterprises Executive Producer Craig Campbell; “Sunday night is the last gasp of the weekend, the last chance to kick back and have a laugh before work rudely gets in the way of leisure. April Fools Day seems like the perfect moment to unleash Australia’s premiere man of leisure onto your Sunday.”

Rove added, “It’s really good to be back at work after so much time away. It has been great to be thrown back into the chaos of producing our show.”

“I assume that this means TEN will pay us double time for working the Sunday shift, I got that at the bottle shop when I was eighteen.”

Rove will return to his on-screen desk on 1 April, 8.30pm for the first time since early November last year, ready to take on Sundays with a vengeance.
