The show started with Kate Smith singing good night, then several short bits. After the intros, where Gary called the show Rowan and Martin's Thing, Kate sang the intro to Dan and Dick and the opening monologue had Dan asking Dick about his New Year's Eve plans. Then the first party segment, which had New Year's Eve balloons, Gladys and Tyrone, more short bits, and a segment focusing on the 1968 presidential campaign. Jack Riley did his LBJ impression, while other cast members and Rich Little did other candidates, holding pictures of them to their faces while doing their voices. Following were more short bits, Stranger Than Truth with Kate, several 'if ___ married ___' bits, and Mod Mod World looking at the battle of the sexes, which included Robot Theatre with Arte as an Arab king seducing Judy. Then more short bits, the second party segment, several one-liners, more short bits, and the Discovery Of The Week, the Brothers LeGard. Following was Sock It To Me Time, several Burbank jokes and more short bits. Then the news, where the men dressed up as the baby New Year while singing the news theme. Also included was Kate introducing the writing staff accepting an Emmy as the biggest mistake of 1968. Then a bit where the fire department pulls up to a fire, but a housewife won't let them use the hydrant. Then more short bits, the Flying Fickle Finger of the Year, a poem from Henry, a tribute to the washboard featuring Gladys and Tyrone, the good nights, the joke wall, and the last short bits.
