Wouldn't Zelda have caught the gargoyle flu anyway, just from playing nursemaid to a sick and contagious Sabrina, and possibly given it to her sister too?

The story Salem tells at the beginning of the episode about how Gargoyle Flu was first discovered makes no sense. It makes no sense when he tells it, and it doesn't get any clearer when we discover what the Gargoyle Flu does.
