Fantasy
Sanctuary , the first broadcast caliber Sci-Fi series developed specifically for the Internet and the first to be filmed entirely on Green Screen, stars Amanda Tapping as Dr. Helen Magnus, one of the first female doctors in the Royal College during Victorian England. Dr. Magnus takes over her… More fathers' sanctuary for supernatural creatures, collected from all over the world. In her work with these creatures, Dr. Magnus has received age longevity. She is joined by her daughter Ashley, played by Emilie Ullerup , and young psychiatric resident Dr. Will Zimmerman, played by Robin Dunne , who may have what it takes to become her new protégé. In 2008, Sanctuary was picked up by the SciFi Channel and rebooted the series in 60 minute form with the pilot " Sanctuary for All ." On November 12, 2008, Sanctuary was renewed for a 13 episode second season.
I stopped watching this show when they killed off Ashley... how is the show doing now??? or is she back later in the season?
Both the first and this is strictly season one, I'll put another up for season two if you wish but I was kinda thinking of making a really difficult season three fav character poll....if only they gave you more spots!!!! :) anyway enjoy.
Since they only give me 5 blanks I'll put another one up soon for (Druitt, Tesla, Bigfoot, Clara, Watson). So outta the main characters who do you favor? For me it's Henry. Just love the character and wish he had more screen time.
A watched the whole first season, and more than a half of the second one, but I couldn't finish episode 7, about the Pleski. I stopped, I put the show on hiatus and I never gathered again the interest to keep watching. It's a good show, don't get me wrong, but being a Sci-Fi show I think it doesn't very good in creating a compelling universe to dive in (After a while the abnormals are not that interesting). Among the cast I love, and I'll always will, Amanda Tapping for her Stargate stint, but beyond her the rest is a bit less entertaining. About the story I didn't like the quick disposal of Ashley and her substitute is a bit annoying. Beyonds, I think there is a general lack of interactions between the characters outside of case-of-the-week scenario.
I really like Amanda and have and still do watch her in SG-1 reruns. I would like to know if Joe Flanigan (from Stargate Atlantis) will be joining the sho as a regulare cast member? hide show
Review what? Sanctuary is an awesome show and I watch it every week. It is great to see Amanda with her own show. I am begging someone to tell me Joe Flanigan will be joining Sanctuary as a regular cast member in the next season.
Amanda Tapping and Joe Flanigan would be great together in Sanctuary. The fans love Amanda and Joe Flanigan so what else do the producers need to know??? Come on help me out here! what else can I say. Please tell me if Joe Flanigan will be on the next season of Sanctuary..please...please....please.I don't know what else to say. I love him..
Is your butler secretely a BIG FOOT?
The Sanctuary project is a global network of free agents who work with Government approval to provide refuge to "mutants" and keep their existence secret from the world. But, Helen Magnus harbours dark secrets..

Originally released on the web and with a cameo by David Hewlett, this series instally filled the void left by Buffy, Angel, Dark Angel and the like.
That is not to say that its success was in its timing, but timing certainly did not hurt the shows evolution to TV. The shows true success was firstly in its secretivity. You had to join the website to view the episodes (before they were leaked) and so there was an air of mystery to the show. Further to this, anyone who visited the site will recall the large iron gates, closed shut, with the gothic mansion looming in the distance beyond the deshevelled gardens and dilapidated staues. What was going on behind those gates?
In the revamped season 1 sadly David Hewlett is replaced and the story line re-written to better fit another characters entry into the plot. The webisodes are worthwhile to explore.
Sanctuary, in the words of Christopher Eccleston's Dr. Who, is fantastic! Absolutely, positively, fantastic.
As with all shows, it has its weaknesses, typically the bad guys are poorly arranged and too easily dismissed, but all the positives drown out the annoying voice in your head that looks for reality in a science fiction show.
The "budget" special effects actually work for the charm of the show. I mean i've seen better graphics on an Amstrad 64 than in some of the scenes, particularly the "shoe" which to me seems plain and not that awe-inspiring as the actors lead you to believe, but the show doesn't seem to need the fancy stuff to get by.
And therein lies the strength of the show. The acting. It's endearing. There is love in the show, homour, action and death. Moral issues are at the heart of most plot lines and the plot just seems to be warming up in season 1 for the splendour of season 2. WOW!
I'll share this with you - there were several epsidoes where i was up on my knees, on the bed, watching Sanctuary on a tiny 16" screen, with my blanket in my mouth, trying to muffle the shouts so as to not wake everyone else in the house. I describe these epsidoes as Lord of the Rings, serialised. Absolutely brilliant television that took Sanctuary from blah to RAH!
At times this show labours, forgive it its weakness and enjoy it for its wonders. 3 thrumbs up.
So much can happen... hide show
With this series there are almost no limits to what can happen. From mythology to history to pure science fiction to science both legitimate and imagined there are storylines everywhere. The characters are rich and the actors interact with each other and their (largely green screen) envrionments with such ease it's amazing. Amanda Tapping is gorgeous and so effortlessly classy, and that shows through in Helen Magnus, just as it did in Sam Carter for ten-plus years. Robin Dunne is so cute, and he plays both action and intellect flawlessly (though I miss the glasses). Christopher Heyerdahl is so versitile as both Druitt and Bigfoot. Ryan Robbins is hilarious and another one of the few people around who can manage to wrap their mouths around all that technobabble (Tapping is one of the best at this). The only thing that could make it better is if Detective Joe Kavanaugh (Kavan Smith) were to return on a regular basis...
Imagine a world where the monsters horror stories that you were told as a kid are real and the stuff of legend is the stuff of right now.Helen Magus does not have to imagine she and those like here have chnsen to send between humanity and the abnorms and hide show
I would admit that at first i was sceptical about this show but decided to give it a try if just to hear Amanda do a british accent.Once i got over Ms Tappings over par english tongue i could say its actually not too bad when you get over the occasional bad writing the premise is quite remarkable.I know we already have dozens of shows that pits norms against mutants or those gifted with abilities but there is a freshness here not often seen. Its more than a simple brawl between two sides but there is also friendship and the revelation of what really makes us different.
