Lamont comes down hard on Fred to try to get him to quit smoking and has him go to the doctor for a chest x-ray. Later, the results are sent in the mail and Fred becomes convinced he has tuberculosis.
| Writer: | Aaron Ruben |
| Director: | George Tyne |

The episode would feature an outdoor shot (Lamont driving his truck), the first seen in the series. This was fairly common during the first season but would become a rarity in subsequent seasons.

Lamont: (telling Fred about the Breathmobile) I don't think you understand me, Pop. It's free.
Fred: I can go down to the County Hospital and get some birth control pills for free, but you don't see me running down there, do you? (edit) Receptionist: (to Fred) Where do you live?
Fred: 9114 South Central Avenue.
Receptionist: That's in Los Angeles.
Fred: Sure ain't Beverly Hills, honey. (edit) Receptionist: Do you (talking to Fred and Lamont) live together?
Fred and Lamont: If you call it that. (edit) Lamont: You burned my bed?!
Fred: Yeah, I burned your bed.
Lamont: Why!?
Fred: Because I thought your bed might be contaminated! (edit) Lamont: Would you go in there!?
Fred: I ain't going in there with that old ugly white woman! (edit)

Lamont claims that Fred is a chain-smoker who has been smoking since he was a child. But we only see him smoking in this episode, we never saw it before or after.

A Matter of Life and BreathGreat "Exactly why I watch this series" All the episodes where Fred is sick, plays sick, or is convinced he is sick are my favorites. There is a part of Redd Foxx's acting that seems to explode when he does that "overacting" thing that he does so well. And this is no exception. Continue » Posted Mar 31, 2008 10:49 pm PST |
