Due to the fact that this episode required some difficult special effects (which were created by some of the crew who had just won a special Academy Award for "Earthquake") this episode was pushed to the end of the shooting schedule for the Fall 1975 season. The Los Angeles scenes were filmed at the end of the summer, however the scenes in Las Vegas were shot earlier in the Spring of 1975 before production on episodes for the fifth season episodes had begun. This was done to save time and money since at the time Redd Foxx was performing there. The only Vegas scene filmed during the regular production was the split-screen phone call which was filmed in Burbank. (edit) There actually was a massive earthquake predicted to hit California on November 7th, 1975. However, it didn't happen until the following January. (edit) Including the quake that happens before the episode begins there are a total of four earthquakes that occur in this episode. (edit) The headline on the newspaper that Hoppy is reading says "Earthquake Strikes L.A." (edit) That's Bessie Smith singing "Nobody Knows You when You're Down and Out" during the hitchhiking montage. (edit)

Fred: We should sue 'em.
Lamont: For what?
Fred: Failure to deliver the quiver! (edit) Esther: There's a time to live, and a time to die! A time to reap and a time to sow!
Fred: A time to shut up, and a time to creep out!!! (edit) Fred: I've been looking at some prime waterfront property.
Lamont: Nevada isn't on the ocean!
Fred: It will be after the quake! (edit) Fred: Earthquakes on the coast. 120 degrees in the desert. They ought to change the name California to "Shake and Bake, USA!" (edit) Fred: In time, the Rockies may tumble, Gibraltar might crumble, they're only made of clay.
But, (singing) my junk is here to stay!!! (edit)

When Fred rushes the Johnsons through the house in an attempt to get them in and out before the quake, he takes them upstairs and out of the camera's view. What we hear is suppose to be Fred moving up and down the hall opening and closing doors to each room very quickly. However you can see his shadow on the wall as Redd Foxx is obviously standing still opening and closing a prop door just out of view of the audience. (edit) When Fred is hitchhiking and shouts "You bigot!" you can hear the wind blowing against his microphone. (edit)
