Catherine O'Hara had actually been hired to work for Dick Ebersol when he was rebuilding SNL in 1981. But after the first staff meeting, in which co-supervising producer Michael O'Donoghue blasted the holdovers from the previous twelve shows, O'Hara resigned the post as cast member. She returned to SCTV (after a two-year sabbatical from that program), but not without recommending SNL to Robin Duke.
