Do you know what scares you? You will get to see what scares the living daylights out of average citizens just like you on Scare Tactics, the hit series from the Sci-Fi Channel and the producers of the hidden camera show Spy TV. The series puts a new spin on the hidden camera idea by featuring pranks inspired by science-fiction and horror films. Such pranks feature "victims" in situations involving haunted houses, alien abductions and more. As an added twist, throughout the seasons the different hosts of Scare Tactics take part in many of the show's pranks.

For those who think the pranks may be too mean-spirited, the producers assure that the show's staff creates detailed bios on each person to ensure that they can handle the kind of situations in which they might be placed. "That's very important to note," producer Kevin Healey says of the selection process. "We're not just playing these wacky, crazy jokes on people who are unsuspecting. We work very hard with friends and family members to make sure that the jokes are appropriate for them, that they'll get a kick out of it, all that kind of stuff. That they don't have any health problems." That's one thing that the critics of the show fail to notice. Friends and family members actually have a big hand in setting up the pranks and the "victims" are not just random innocent people suckered in by the show's supposedly "cruel" producers.

Originally ordered as an addition to the Sci Fi Channel's October 2002 line-up, the show was instead moved to April 2003. Scare Tactics began with a one-hour premiere, showing two original episodes back-to-back on April 4, 2003. Season one episodes aired Fridays at 10:00 p.m. followed by a repeat of the prior week's episode at 10:30 p.m. In its second season, the first few episodes of the series aired Thursdays at 10:00pm. After a long hiatus, new episodes began airing on Wednesdays at 10:00p.m. ET. The show ended in December 2004. Three and a half years later, Sci Fi Channel revived the series with episodes of Season 3 starting up on July 9, 2008.

Actress Shannen Doherty kept us on the edge of our seats as the host for Scare Tactics in Season 1 and part of Season 2. Actor Stephen Baldwin took over as host for the remainder of Season 2. Saturday Night Live veteran Tracy Morgan joins the revival of the show for Season 3.less «

  The three previous editors have all retired or been force-retired from the "Scare Tactics" guide. I'm next in line for the editorship but I don't have the necessary 80 points yet. I don't really want to be editor for this guide so I'd like to see someone else step up and take over the guide, preferably someone who actually has seen the show and someone who will be a competent editor. There were several new episodes this fall, in October and November I think. None of those have been added to the guide. If someone is interested in getting the editorship, you could start off by tracking down the recent episodes and add those to the guide. Make sure you use reliable sources. (IMDb should only be used if there are no other sources available.) Since we know there really were new episodes this fall (I saw some of them myself), we could use that to help guide us in filling in information gaps. The new episodes aired on Wednesday nights. You can check the Sci Fi Schedulebot for each week and day, but be sure not to add repeat airings as new episodes to the guide. Anyone game for this? It's not a "glamorous" show or guide but I think "Scare Tactics" deserves to have a more complete guide than what we currently have. I added some of the early episodes of this new season but I haven't added any of the fall episodes. There has to be at least one interested and competent individual out there.less «

  Anyone watching the new season with Tracy Morgan? Tracy is terrible. He's very wooden and robotic-like...seems like he's reading his lines for the first time as they tape him! It's embarassing to watch. The scares have become pretty lame and they're much shorter than they were in previous seasons. I wonder if they had lawsuits or threats of lawsuits, because they've totally dialed everything back big time. They scare the person, and before they used to keep it going...this season they almost end the scare immediately. I want to see more like the alien guy attacking the car- the girl in the backseat was FLIPPING out. They just let he run away, then run back to the car, then they let her nearly crap herself sitting there while the big alien ripped the door off, THEN they let her know it was a tv show. I never thought I'd say I miss Stephen Baldwin. less «

  Worst show ever!!!... hide « show »

  You have to be prety naive to believe this show is for real. It has the worst actors ever. None of them can fake a scared face. If you have a hidden camera show, it is impossible to have cameras in all the angles. They must have at least 5 different cameras. They even have a camera that moves along with people when they walk from one place to another. It is really stupid!
  
  This show doesn´t scare me...it makes me mad!...and at the same time, I feel sad for all of you who really think those pranks are for real!

  Hi my name is Ariel and I am REALLY interested in scaring my boyfriend Tim. I want to get him back for leaving me in u.s.s. nightmare. (a haunted ship) i have tried to find somewhere to apply but have been unsuccessful, if anyone could help me i would be very much appreciative thank you. I personally love the show and I would be over joyed if i could possibly get one of my friends preferably my boyfriend on the show. if you have by any chance some advice as to how i can go about applying for the show scare tactics i would be very much interested thanks again so much

  I give this show 5 stars because i like 2 see people get scared like crazy and this is funny. ***** stars for this show.   Is it just me or do the people being tricked seem like they are acting? Some of them seem like bad actors. hide « show »

  I found this show on the sci-fi website. They have two episodes up at a time that you can watch for free. Anyways, it seems to me that it is all fake. The people being tricked often seem like they are acting and not very well. For example the voodoo doll one: Why did she just sit there not moving? I would think most people would reach over and try to get the doll from the voodoo lady. Their fear just doesn't seem real a lot of the times. Nonetheless the show is kind of cool. I wish there was a way to know for sure if the people being tricked are actors or not. I suppose I would need to know someone personally that was on the show. If you are bored, and you have nothing else to do, hop on the sci-fi website and stream the show.
