    My reasons are:

    1. When Diplomacy fails for Captain Picard, he tries more diplomacy.

When Diplomacy fails for Captain Kirk, He tries negotiations... with his phaser.

    2. Now the name test... Jean-Luc Picard vs. Jame Tiberius Kirk... Need I say more?

    What are your reasons?

But Picard is better than Kirk! IMHO... More intellectual. More "leader" qualities; less of a loose cannon.

Having said that, I like Kirk too...especially Pine's version...

Really, being triggerhappy makes one "better"? I guess Kirk is more "gangsta" eh?

Although not a captain of the Enterprise, Katherine Janeway did what the others could not... Destroy the Borg

Kirk on the other hand has the highest amount of Red Shirted casualties, and at the end of every episode he laughed about it with the senior staff.. tough times back then >.

    Picard gets my vote.

But going along with this... I guess Kirk's cool since he made friends with Spock and he didn't take bull from anyone.

Lol, that's not fair, she had help from her future self. If you can be in 2 places at the same time and have tech from the future to help fight a more 'primitive' borg, of course they'll win.

Picard was pretty bad ass in one scene of 'First contact' in that holodeck scene with the Tommy gun. I'd like to see Picard and Kirk duel it out

I vote Kirk. He talked a computer into killing itself...

I agree with your reason #1 but I think the shows should be considered with regard to the time they were made: in the '60's TV westerns were still popular and problems there were solved at the point of a gun, at least Kirk tried to negotiate, blasting them with his phasers was a last resort, and anyway the alien scum deserved to die! (Wasn't it fortunate that hand phasers could totally obliterate their targets without damaging the surrounding area; obviated the need for clean-up crews to come in afterwards to clean bloody alien ichor off the damaged bulkheads or engineers to repair said damaged bulkheads) I did find Picard unbearably arrogant at times (see reason #2).

Both have some real great positives and a few negatives. You could write a book on each. When I look at the whole I have to give it to Picard but not by much. I feel as if I just betray a friend.

I would give it to Picard. He's much more level headed than Kirk.
Kirk always acted like a spoiled kid and treated the Enterprise like a toy.

Picard is serious, commanding and intelligent, he always seemed like a better captain to me.

Plus Picard became Borg. Doesn't get much cooler than that.
