Originally, every time I saw an image or even a sign of this show's existense, I really thought it going to be terrible on account of the strange animation stylings used in this. I decided to see what it was like. I might as well try it out on my free dvd from Newtype Magazine!!! I didn't even have to subscribe!!!! joyz!!!! ^_^ Anyway, I found the music strangely addictive and it's because of this that I've watched the first episode 5 times! About two days after watching it for the first time, I realized that this show used to be on when I was a kid and that I had seen the first episode at least ten times for the time it was on. I can't wait for it to return to Canada so I can see all the episodes cut out of the dub. Heh, as soon as I saw this, I thought, 'Hey, someone should tell the world that Megas XLR has been using their character design!' According to my sources, Canada is only country left that hasn't cancelled Megas, but this review isn't about Megas, is it? No, I found the series to be strangely addictive and I just love the idea of having classical music during a ninja-style fight scene. Anyway, hope to see it in Canada soon, because I'm not getting any younger.
An excellent series that started all those "team" anime shows. Before all the various 70's mecha series and even before Yamato, there was Kagaku Ninjatai Gatchaman. hide show
Anyone who grew up watching a show called Battle of the Planets or GForce: Guardians of Space was viewing a watered-down version of Gatchaman. Baically it's a typical good vs evil plot, but the amount of angst and drama is thick and heavy, especially by the end of the series. There is also quite a bit of violence, so it's not for young kids. Considering it's a Japanese show, there's a heavy amount of Western influence and Christian symbolism in various episodes. The music is also great, with a variety of action, drama, and suspence themes.

I used to watch this show when I was younger. I can remember about six or seven years ago when this show was still on Cartoon Network under the name of Battle of the Planets (BotP). In my youth, I would constantly sneak out of bed late in the night just to watch this show. There was a slight problem; at that age I couldn’t have less about the name of it. I actually just found the show by accident the other day while I was looking at Wal-Mart.
Enough about how I came to watch the show and more about the show. I originally saw the show shown on Cartoon Network late one night and instantly fell in love with it. As I understand, the show was called G-Force when it was originally shown in the U.S. and now goes by the name of BotP. Don't get the two show mixed up, as they aren't all the same. Gatchaman (as it is called by the boxed DVD sets) is an unedited Japanese version of the show. It’s the pure, unedited, dubbed version. It contains much of the "gore", "cursing" and even unaired episodes that were cut from G-Force.
Though this show isn't in syndication, its well worth the watch.
