QUOTES
- Scott Bakula: (Describing his character Jonathon Archer on Star Trek Enterprise) My guy grew up in the system. His dad was an engineer in the warp-drive project. And worked on developing the warp five engine. So Archer's kind of a brat of the space program. He's a little bit brash. He's a little bit in people's faces. He doesn't like being told what to do per se. He's a great captain, I think. But he's going to make some mistakes. He's very human. edit »
- Scott Bakula: We really do have a good time. We are fortunate to have that, You never know in any given situation who you're going to be cast with. edit »
- Scott Bakula: Quantum Leap came across my agent's desk and then to me, I liked the material so much I just said, 'Let's do it!' Since then, the worry has always been, 'Will NBC give us enough time to find an audience?' They've been great about it. They hung in there with us last year. They renewed us. We didn't jump out of the gate like crazy this year. What we've done, very slowly and gradually, is build a pretty solid audience for NBC in our Wednesday at 10:00 slot. My past experience has always been not getting support from our network. That's not a problem here. edit »
- Scott Bakula: You know, Quantum was always like a marathon, You just tried to get to the end of it... standing! I'm not sure how this is going to be. I've had much more time off already than I had in four and a half years on Quantum. So I don't know how I'm going to feel. I'm not planning anything, but the doors are open - my production company is still moving ahead, and my agency is proceeding like I'm available for work, but at this point in time it's really hard to get a sense of whether there will be the time. We're doing 26 episodes, while I've only done 22 [on Quantum Leap]. That extra month is a lot. And we're not going to have much of a break - we only had a week off between the pilot and starting the episodes. So I don't know about this year. edit »
- Scott Bakula: Brannon Braga and Rick Berman were really great about setting this character up, and explaining him to me, selling him to me. They pretty much delivered on that, which doesn't always happen. You know, sometimes you'll be told 'Well, it's gonna be this, this and this,' and you get to the page and it's not there at all and then you're forced to kind of - find it. But they've done a good job of making him pretty dynamic and interesting and with a lot of room to grow! Over the long haul, when you're faced with a series that's hopefully going to run for a while, it means you're not stuck in a corner somewhere with a character you're trying to invent fun things for to do. edit »
- Scott Bakula: My feeling is that the networks, they have a lot of people that spend a lot of time and energy looking at the Nielsen ratings. edit »
- Scott Bakula: In many respects, I think a lot of businessmen have become highly insensitive to the world, the environment, to everything around them. What are they doing with the millions and millions of dollars they're making? Why don't they give anything back? That, to me, is the height of insensitivity. edit »
- Scott Bakula: I like fantasy. I've always been the kind of kid who likes to dream about other things I could be and exotic situations I could be in. I don't know what makes you that kind of person. Some people probably don't have time for fantasy. I probably have too much time for it. edit »
- Scott Bakula: (Talking about the perks of being a Starship Captain) I was very excited. I was a huge fan of the original Star Trek, and I'd never even dreamed that I would someday be captain of a starship... I'm a big fan of the future of space programs on this planet, especially if it's a space program that can proceed in a peaceful fashion, keeping weapons out of space. edit »
- Scott Bakula: When I used to do tours, I'd be anxious and nervous on the plane returning to New York. I now realize the reaction was because I was coming back unemployed. Actors are constantly being put to the test. edit »
- Scott Bakula: (Talking about how he got his role of Captain Jonathon Archer)Kerry McCluggage and Garry Hart were both at Universal when I did Quantum Leap. We had a long and very good relationship. My production company was already at Paramount when they approached me. I was excited, but wanted to meet Rick Berman and Brannon Braga and read the pilot script. Once I read that and met with the guys it was kind of a no-brainer in terms of a role to play, a place to work, with great collaborators, and it would keep me at home for the next few years. edit »
- Scott Bakula: The great thing about show business is that there's no mandatory retirement age. edit »
- Scott Bakula: The biggest challenge for everybody to realize out there is that we're in a very complicated business world and that were all under one umbrella and it's very challenging for everybody to figure out where the priorities lie and where the loyalties lie. edit »
- Scott Bakula: On the whole, show business is a hard business in which to be married. edit »
- Scott Bakula: Ideally, people find mates with whom they can express both their masculine and feminine sides. edit »
- Scott Bakula: I've always been a big fan of time travel, and I'm very into the notion that some day we'll be able to do it. Beam me up! edit »
- Scott Bakula: I went into show business because I love to work with people, and what I enjoy most about acting is rehearsing and getting to know people and their talents, forming relationships. Working in this business, barriers drop and you get into people real quickly. edit »
- Scott Bakula: I don't think that a company should own a studio and the network, and program for their own network. It hurts the creativity - it is not a level playing field. edit »
- Scott Bakula: I am very much against weapons in space. And I wish we could be spearheading that program to come to some kind of international agreement so that doesn't happen. That is my only - fear - in further space exploration like always, we hope it doesn't get abused. edit »
Connor Trinneer: (Connor Trinneer speaking of his co-stars in "Star Trek: Enterprise") Scott Bakula is just a great guy. He knows how it all works. He's somebody I've already learned a great deal from and I will continue to do that. edit »- Scott Bakula: When I used to do tours, I'd be anxious and nervous on the plane returning to New York. I now realize the reaction was because I was coming back unemployed. Actors are constantly being put to the test. edit »
