Scout's father has finished his assignment and returns to South Africa. Everyone, except Scout is under the assumption that he is coming to take Scout back with him to New York. Scout's father take Scout and Bongani up to one of his favorite places in South Africa. After almost being run over by a stampede of animals, they all find out that construction is underway on the land, which is outside of the protective wildlife reserve. Unable to do anything, they all just feel down about it until Scout notices an artifact in the pictures her dad took of the site and the construction. The construction is halted for an excavation. Scout's father gives her the choice to move back to New York, which has also been weighing on everyone's minds. She decides to stay in South Africa.
