When Dr. Kelso challenges the residents by offering a trip to a medical conference in Reno as a reward to the individual, who presents the most interesting case study, J.D. refuses to play along, earning him the respect of Dr. Cox.
In the meantime, Turk misses his opportunity to ask for a new laser on the one day of the year, that Dr. Kelso grants favors, so he is forced to find another way to come up with the goods.

Title Explanation: "My Case Study" refers to the case study J.D was struggling to find throughout the episode.

Realizing that the longer credits would decrease the amount of episode shown, NBC removed the new credits sequence with this episode - although it did appear in a supersized broadcast later in the season. The banjo track is missing from the opening song though. It remains absent for most of season two.

All of the residents (J.D., Turk, Elliot, Todd, etc.) have been in the hospital for a year. It is strange that none of them have heard of Dr. Kelso's annual giveaway.

Ludwig's Angina:
Dr. Kelso asks Dr. Murphy ("Nervous Guy") what the presentation of Ludwig's Angina is. As usual, Dr. Murphy is unable to answer. Ludwig's Angina is an inflammation of the tissues of the floor of the mouth, under the tongue. It is dangerous because the swelling can block the airway. Symptoms include breathing difficulty; confusion or other mental changes; fever; neck pain; neck swelling; redness of the neck; and weakness, fatigue, or excessive tiredness. It presents itself as redness and swelling of the upper neck, which may reach to the floor of the mouth; the tongue may be swollen or out of place. (edit) Featured Music:
