Carmen Blake Monahan (Alice Garner), Meredith's niece is posing as a high profile food critic at a restaurant to get a free meal, she is a travelling religious hippie who hitch-hikes her way to Pearl Bay.
Laura is searching frantically around the house to find the missing family cat Mitsy when Miranda takes a stand and refuses to go to school until they find her, while puting up posters around town Miranda runs into Carmen who gives her some good advice.

After it is discovered that she is not an official food critic, Carmen is taken to court to stand trial infront of Laura against a Chef that she ripped off. Laura gives her a harsh word ad sends her on her way, which brings Carmen to see Meredith whom she spends time reminiscing with.

After Carmen asks for Merediths family Christening gown, Meredith discovers that Carmen is pregnant and is very happy about it.
Miranda struggles to fit in at Pearl Bay and it finding it hard to get over the loss of Mitsy, she contemplates leaving school and finally does against her mothers wishes.

After a court case Angus gives Laura advice on how to handle local cases of the townspeople because he was unhappy with a ruling she made.

Now that Miranda is out of school, Dan casually enlists her help at his cafe and in Meredith's desperate attempt to keep Carmen and her unborn child in Pearl Bay she gets her arrested but this backfires when unknown charges gets Carmen in deep trouble.

That same day Laura recieves a phone call informing her that Mitsy has been buried in concrete which pushes Miranda over the edge.

Because of Carmen's charges, three chefs are called to give evidence against her and after Meredith asks Dan to stay and cook for them, she is left serving three of Australia's top chef's Pearl Bay's finest. Over Dinner Miranda informs laura that she wants to move back to the city with her dad and live with trudy, Laura has a blow out.

While walking along the beach Laura runs into Diver and pleads with him to sack Miranda in order to keep her in Pearl Bay, this ends in Diver Dan inviting Laura over for a meal in which he serves glorious food and she complains about her life. The Morning after the meal, Laura comes to Dan and asks him to teach her how to cook and in Dan's sly way he accepts. After her first lesson Dan makes his way to the Tropical Star to cook for the three Chefs who are absolutely ecstatic about how nice their meals are and they get Dan to teach them some cooking tricks.

Back at Carmen's trial, Carmen spills her feelings about her father and is given a light sentence which will keep her in Pearl Bay with Meredith.

In an upset state Laura confides in Miranda about Jack and Trudy's affair which causes Miranda to rethink her plans about leaving and to their surprise, Mitsy returns and causes and uproaor, ruining Laura's dinner that she made from scratch.

The episode ends with Kevin and Trevor having a conversation on the beach.
