- Early in the morning on April 30, 2008 Avery was rushed to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Manhattan after suffering a lacerated spleen during a playoff game the previous night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Although Avery made a full recovery and was released on May 4th, after spending five days in the hospital, his season was over.(edit)
