Sela was nominated for many awards for her role on Sisters. In 1994, she won the Emmy for "Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actress in a Drama Series". In 1993, she was nominated for a Golden Globe for "Best Performance by an Actress in a Drama Series". In 1996, she was nominated for a SAG Award for "Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series". (edit) After Katrina, Sela's son Austin, who was 11 at the time, started his emergency preparedness kits company with help from her and his dad; profits go to Hope Village for Children. (edit) Sela initiated and partially funded the creation of an emergency shelter for children who are awaiting placement in foster homes, called Hope Village. Hope Village is on a 30-acre property once used as a masonic orphanage, and was opened in her hometown of Meridian, MS in January, 2002. In 2005, it housed, educated, and counseled more than 140 children. (edit) Sela took over as spokesperson for the Sprint long distance telephone service commercial campaign from Candice Bergan, from 1999 to 2002.
