The whole powering up thing in an instant seems underdeveloped, but at least it didn't last for more than ten minutes rather than ten episodes. hide show

Anna brought with her an ancient book that Hao has used to convert his followers towards doing his bidding. Within that book is all of the elements that Hao has mastered a thousand years ago, and his very thoughts as well. Originally, it was only suppose to be Yoh to experience the thing, but the rest of the party didn't want to get left behind and joined him, including Faust. Within the book, they saw flashbacks of Hao's past, and distinguishing the differences between a shaman and a normal human. Through his psychological play, it seems like the crew is inclined into taking Hao's side. Hao then gave them an amazing amount of power. When they return, they all repeated Hao's words of salvation with deep and dark voices. Then, Lyzerg and the X-Laws appeared, thinking that they might have converted to Hao's side. But they were all normal, and by experiencing that book they just entered, they had more motivation to fight. Too bad Lyzerg's missing out.

What I really liked the most about this episode is that normally in shounens, powering up is acquired through hours of training. In here, they use a plot device instead, which I prefer over long periods of training. Even though the whole "humans are bad, they pollute the earth" thing is getting kind of old now, how it was executed within this episode was rather brilliant. Though its downfall is that it really didn't drag the content out enough. Even though it was explained and justified how the party obtained their powers, it just felt kind of sudden.
