Welcome to the She's the Sheriff guide at TV.com.

Widowed mom Hildy Granger takes over as the Sheriff of Lakes County, Nevada after her husband dies. Hildy has regular battles with work colleague Max Rubin who doesn't feel Hildy should be in the job. There was a pilot broadcast called Cass Malloy. 44 episodes aired in first-run syndication for 2 seasons.

SHE'S THE SHERIFF, a first-run, half-hour syndicated comedy series from Lorimar Television, stars Suzanne Somers, George Wyner, Pat Carroll, Taliesin Jaffe, Lou Richards, Nicky Rose, Guich Koock as "Mulcahy" and Leonard Lightfoot.

Ms. Somers stars as Hildy Granger, a young wife suddenly widowed with two children to support. Her employment worries end when the Commissioner of Lakes County, Nevada (near Lake Tahoe), offers to appoint her sheriff, the job held by her husband until his untimely death. Hildy accepts the position and is immediately forced to handle the daily problems of both locals and tourists, with extra trouble created by the four deputies on her staff. SHE'S THE SHERIFF marks Ms. Somers' return to series television after a six-year absence since starring in the hit series Three's Company (1977-81) and, once again, shows her flair for comedy.

George Wyner co-stars as Deputy Max Rubin, indignant that he has been passed over for the job of Sheriff. To put it in his words: "When an airline pilot dies while he's flying a plane, does his wife take over?" Max is obsessed with sabotaging Hildy, hoping to have her fired and to be appointed in her place. He pulls every trick possible and then some more, but he is always foiled in the process. Wyner, a familiar face to television viewers, is perhaps best known for his role as Assistant District Attorney Irwin Bernstein on the acclaimed long-running series Hill Street Blues.

Emmy Award and Grammy Award-winner Pat Carroll portrays Gussie Holt, Hildy's mother. A woman of warmth and wit who is addicted to soap operas and old movies, Gussie leaves her home on the East Coast and moves in with the Grangers to take care of household matters and help give Hildy an even greater chance at being the best-ever lady Sheriff. Ms. Carroll, a well-known Broadway stage and television actress, has starred in such television classics as Caesar's Hour and The Danny Thomas Show. She is also the recipient of the Helen Hayes Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Romeo and Juliet.

The cast also stars Lou Richards as Deputy Dennis Putnam, a sweet man who inadvertently aggravates situations because he often takes what is said to him a little too literally; Gulch Koock as Deputy Hugh Mulcahy, who, on the other hand, constantly amazes his fellow deputies with his flair for languages and ability to quote D. H. Lawrence; and Leonard Lightfoot as Deputy Alvin Wiggins, who stands out as the practical, calm "voice of reason" and uses his sense of humor to deflate some of Max's schemes.

Series stars Taliesin Jaffe and Nicky Rose portray Hildy's son Kenny and daughter Allison. Kenny is a precocious, spunky eleven-year-old who likes baseball and Rambo. Allison is also bright with a sweetness that can be deceptive, especially when she delivers some fairly adult "one liners."

David Goldsmith and Arthur Silver are executive producers, Marty Nadler is producer, Wenda Fong is co-producer and Lisa Lewis is associate producer.
