The two-hour premiere of 100 Centre Street opens in Judge Rifkind's night court. When Rifkind (Alan Arkin), a liberal judge who's nickname is "Let-em-Go Joe", releases a petty offender who jumped a subway turnstile, he starts a chain of events that end a rookie cop's life and could end his career.

Standing by Rifkind are his wife, Sarah (recurring star Phyllis Newman), and his friend and colleague, Judge Attallah Sims (LaTanya Richardson). Sim's has a firmer view of justice than Rifkind; her nickname is "Attallah-the-Hun."
