Empire is a historical mini-series set in 44 BC around the time Julius Caesar is assassinated. The show focuses on Octavius (Santiago Cabrera, Haven) , adopted son and nephew of Julius Caesar, and Tyrannus (Jonathan Cake, Inconceivable), a disgraced former gladiator who is sworn to protect Octavius.

The mini-series started with a reported $50 million budget, and shrunk down to $32 million after the series was cut from eight down to six episodes, along with other cost-cutting.

The show has faced numerous set-backs, including fire destroying sets. It was filmed entirely on location in Rome and South Central Italy.

The Lost Legion

Aired: Tuesday July 26, 2005

Octavius relinquishes the beautiful Vestal Virgin, Camane, so that he can devote himself to being the Emperor of Rome. Tyrannus, the former slave and gladiator, joins Octavius' forces in their fight against the power-hungry Marc Antony, with the fate of Rome and the western world hanging in the balance.

    This series tries to create powerful, emotional and dramatic moments but fails. At times it's just embarrasing, and some of the fight scenes are not much better than those in Xena or the likes. Most of the actors are acceptable, but not more than that. ...Continue »
