John Sutherland is procurator fiscal (the public prosecutor) for the town of Glendoran and the surrounding district. As such, he is called upon to undertake preliminary investigations into criminal cases and to present the case for the prosecution in the District and Sheriff Courts. In the event of a sudden death, it is the procurator who presides over the enquiry.
