Live & Kicking was the fourth magazine programme to accommodate the live Saturday morning CBBC slot.
The original presenters of the show were Andi Peters, Emma Forbes and John Barrowman. After series one, John took on a recurring role hosting the Electric Circus segment of the show. Andi & Emma continued presenting for the next two series, they were then followed by Jamie Theakston and Zoë Ball who hosted for the next three series, then Steve Wilson and Emma Ledden who hosted series 7 finally, Katy Hill, Ortis Deley, Sarah Cawood and Trey Farley. Katy Hill left the show, to be replaced by Heather Suttie.
During it's run the programme had two spin-offs, L&K Friday with lasted for two series, with ran alongside series five and six of the show with the same presenters, except for series two, Emma Ledden couldn't present on Fridays so Liz Fraser took on the role. Alongside the last series of the show, a spin-off of the reality show Castaway merged with L&K to create a gameshow called L&K Castaway, the premise of the show was two teams of contestants joining hosts Tammy Huff and Toby Waterman to compete against one another, this series was narrated by Heather Suttie, unlike other Live & Kicking shows which was narrated by Mitch Johnson.
The seventh series of the show saw the ratings drop, on July 4th 2000 it was announced that both Steve Wilson and Emma Ledden had left the show. After a major facelift, and the decision of returning with four new presenters, the show returned in September 2000. Then in an announcement on March 20th 2001 it was revealed that the eighth series was to be the last. The show was relocated to the BBC's Glasgow studios on April 21st 2001.
