  • A entertaining remake of the iconic film!

    7.5
Eventually they had to start remaking, or redoing if you will, some films from my teenage or childhood years and they really picked a good one.

I thought at first this was going to really stink. The fact that the original was just that amazing, it couldn't live up to it, but upon watching the pilot, it seemed entertaining enough and the relationships where interesting enough to make me watch on.

I like both actresses that where picked to play the sisters, plus Patrick. Yum!

Although not brilliant, it is entertaining and the pilot leaves you wanting more! I just fear that there is only so much of this series and then they run out of storyline!moreless
  • Entertaining.

    7.0
The Pilot episode really grabbed me in and got me excited for the next episode, and that's a Pilot's purpose, so I congratulate this show on that. I had a problem that I'm sure many fans had. This show really should just be a show on it's own, not a spin off of a beloved 90s movie, that everyone is going to compare too. Which is impossible, when it comes to feature flicks against a sitcom. I'm pretty sure ratings would be better if this wasn't a spin off. All characters are introduced. Kat finds herself meeting Mandella and Patrick Verona. Bianca meets Cameron, Joey, and Chastity. I like the sister dynamic, how Kat helped Bianca in the end, no matter how annoying she can be. She got mascot, I'm excited to see what happens as the series unravels.moreless
  • Series Premiere

    8.5
This is the pilot episode of this new ABC Family comedy based on the 1989 film of the same name, "10 Things I Hate About You" I have never seen the movie before, so I have nothing to compare this show to. Let me start out by saying this show has great writing and great actors. The lead actress Lindsey Shaw (Ned's Declassified, Aliens in America) who plays Kat was the best actor on the show. She is great and this is going to be her breakout role, I know it. The girl who plays Bianca is definitely a good actress too. The girl who plays Chastity wasn't bad, she was good. It will take more episodes to know if their performances will be really great though. When we first met Cameron and Michael, I could tell that Michael was going to be the annoying character in the series, every series has one, but again more episodes will be needed and character development for sure. All I can say is that I really enjoyed this pilot episode and this show is going to be a big hit. It definitely has everything a great show needs. Can't wait for more episodes and more seasons!moreless
  • remake or not, this show sucks

    2.0
even though this show is a blantant remake of the movie of same name, with the same creator and even the same actor as the father, lets just pretend that the movie never happened. lets not hamper the actors with witty comments like "well he's no Heath Ledger" blah blah

doesn't matter. this show blows. big time. the characters are thin and dull. Cameron is a total wuss, Michael is just too over the top in the idiot sidekick realm. Chastity is ridiculous and Joey couldn't be more dumb blonde if he was a girl. And the leads. give me a break. they are 10 times worse. there's NOTHING to make any of them appealing. the only halfway decent part of the whole episode was that Kat figured out that the way to bribe Chastity was to pull the yearbook on her. how original. think I"ve seen that in about a dozen shows.moreless
  • For the original movie fans who are disgruntled by this remake remember that imitation is the best form of flattery.

    7.0
Well it couldn't have been an easy job to step into the shoes of actors such as Julia Stiles or Heath Ledger or any of the other amazing teenaged actors in the original 10 Things I Hate About You and the actors in the new soon-to-be-hit-show, showed us just how hard a task it was. As far as the acting goes as long as squint and don't remember just how exceptional the movie was it won't be that bad. The writing needs work but it honestly wasn't that bad and I'm sure it will only improve given time. The most abhor able change however is the change from the brunette heartbreaking Joey to the blond quarterback; girls everywhere are rioting in revolt. I give this remake 2 ¾ stars out of five.moreless

  • TRIVIA (4)

  • QUOTES (12)

    • Bianca: You've ruined my chances of being popular!
Kat: I'm sorry but that girl sucks. She's a teenaged Kim Jong Il.
Bianca: Speak English, you show off!
Kat: Kim Jong Il - the dictator of North Korea!

    • Kat: Dad, you realize we know where babies come from, right?
Walter: Do you realize where they come out? Trust me. Not pretty.
(Kat and Bianca at the same time)
      Kat: Dad!
      Bianca: Dad!

    • Walter: What's wrong with being popular? I loved it. I loved being captain of the football team... president of the Student Council. Any girl I wanted.
Kat: Dad, that was Uncle Jimmy.
      Walter: So, it was.

    • Kat: Why are people scared of you?
Patrick: Why are people scared of you?
Kat: People are not scared of me.
Patrick: Sure they are. That's why I find you interesting.

    • (Kat confronting Chastity in the locker room)
Kat: I'm here to talk about my sister.
Chastity: Oh, what a coincidence! I was just about to send her to social Siberia.

    • (after Joey accidentally pulls Bianca into a closet, and Chastity opens the door)
      Chastity: How dare you?
Bianca: It's not what you think. We have chemistry together. The class! Not the other thing.

    • (In front of the high school building, on their first day)
      Bianca: How do I look?
      Kat: Shallow.
Bianca: Thank you! (Turns around, smiling)

    • Cameron: (to the angry crowd who realizes that there is no beer in the party) See, I didn't realize that the person who throws the party is also supposed to supply the alcohol. But I have a surprise! (pulls on a string to reveal a piñata)

    • Chastity: (about Kat) Of the ten things I hate about today, she is number one, number five, and number eight.

    • Bianca: Great speech. Very inspiring.
Chastity: Yeah, but no one cried.

    • Chastity: My neck is sore.
Kat: That's probably from flipping your hair too much.

    • Kat: We're going to high school, not the Academy Awards.
Bianca: You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

  • NOTES (5)

  • ALLUSIONS (12)

    • Kat: It's way worse than having bound feet or wearing a burka.

Foot binding is a common practice among traditional Chinese women. Wearing a burka, an outer garment covering one's entire body, is a tradition and a requirement among Muslim women.

    • Michael: Well, then get over there Harry Pooper and pull out your wand.

Harry Potter, the title character in J.K. Rowling's popular book series and the subsequent film series adaptation, is the wand-bearing teen wizard who attends the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

    • Chastity: (To Mandella) Move it, Elphaba.

Elphaba was the name given to the Wicked Witch of the West in Wicked, the novel by Gregory Maguire and the Broadway musical based off of it.

    • Cameron: We're not exactly Clooney or Pitt.

He is referring to actors Brad Pitt and George Clooney, who have both been named People's Sexiest Man of the Year twice.

    • Bianca: Nothing like that Long Duk Dong...

Long Duk Dong is the strange Asian foreign exchange student from the 1984 comedy Sixteen Candles.

    • Kat: All right, Hannibal Lecter...

Hannibal Lecter refers to the cannibalistic doctor from several novels by Thomas Harris and its film adaptations, most notably 1991's The Silence of the Lambs. He is potrayed by Anthony Hopkins.

    • Kat: (to Bianca) No way, Miss Daisy.

She is referring to the title character of the play (and subsequent movie), Driving Miss Daisy, about the relationship between an elder Jewish woman and her African-American chaffeur.

    • Kat: (about Chastity) She's a teenage Kim Jong-il!

Kim Jong-il is the dictator of North Korea.

    • Kat: I was going two miles per hour, not exactly The Fast and The Furious.

The Fast and the Furious is a 2001 street-racing movie with Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. It has spawned three sequels.

    • Michael: Look at Shia Labeouf.

Shia Labeouf is the actor best known for his role in the Transformers movies.

    • Kat: Beguile. Big word for you, Shakespeare.

She is referring to William Shakespeare, the English playwright. The original 10 Things I Hate About You was based on one of his plays, The Taming of the Shrew.

    • Kat: We're going to high school, not the Academy Awards.

The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, is an award ceremony held yearly to celebrate excellence in the film industry.
