Wow! At first I didn't think this was a real show, then was sure I had switched the channel on accident. But no, it's a real show! with one funny line in 22 minutes (chimney-sweeps). It felt like a script written in the early 90's that was passed over for Friends and the actors, while beautiful, were way to over-the-top. And not "this is the pilot, we're trying to establish theparadigm" over-the-top, just bad, with the exception (in most cases) of the lead.
Also, POORLY written. "Yankee **** could not think of something better? A seemingly endless stream of badclichédjokes and general predictable scenarios. Two dimensional characters like the gay black man, beauty that's "surprisingly"down to earth, uptight closed off woman, goofy and somewhateffeminate spazz, the sex-crazed blonde, and the ladies man who may be smarter and more caring than he first appears.
Canned Laughs?! Really?!?! I mean I understand this show obviously wasn't given much in the way of funding, what with the unknown actors, less than great writers, and general lack of a lead-in or pre-premier hype,so not being able to afford a large studio makes sense, but canned laughs?! Those should stay in the 90's where they died. The audience doesn't need a cue to laugh when the jokes are good. Live is one thing, because each time is different and doesn't take away from, but adds to the show. Pre-programmed laughs only serve to further remove the audience from the story. And they take away from what could have been passable laughs.
In all, the whole damned thing seemed like a 30min sitcom that even FOX would turn down (remember, those are the guys that let Till Death fester for two years), let alone produce a pilot. Does NBC hate Parks&Rec? Is it, in their eyes, on par with this?! That company, what with all their mistakes the past year, is gettingridiculous. Or is this just an attempt to regain some money that was lost when an idiot green lit this pile of crap and wasted hundreds of thousands (okay, hundreds) of dollars shooting a couple episodes.
Or have I lost it and this is what passes for good television?
