  • No Melrose Place but a lot of potential

I watched this several years ago as a two part mini-series and it was an enjoyable trashfest that had the distinction of being based solely around four women who were neither friends nor enemies but lived together and came from totally different backgrounds.

It was two years a ahead of its time. Zanier than Melrose before that show even reached its camp seasons and Joy's impotence inducing voodoo and getting struck by lightning didn't exactly sit well when juxtaposed with Perry getting raped in a stairwell.

Lisa Hartman was less than convincing (and dare I say it, perhaps a little old) to be playing the daughter of a rich family who rebelled by getting into high class prostitution. But the rest of the cast was stellar. Jennifer Beals was neurotic as a lawyer being stalked by her boyfriend's ex and Tuesday Knight chewed up the scenery with relish.

This show only ran for a few weeks, but I was hooked. I tuned in mainly because of the cast. I was a huge Lisa Hartman fan when she was on Knots Landing and she was joined by Jennifer Beals and Drew Barrymore. I also knew Scott Bryce, Brian Bloom and Michael T. Weiss from their daytime work and Tuesday Knight from Nightmare ON Elm Street 4. The writing wasn't great and neither particularly was the acting, yet I was strangely addicted to it. Of course it had to end on a cliffhanger so we never got to find out what happened next.
