    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • Finnish figure skater Susanna Poykio opened her short program with orchestral music from the Austin Powers soundtrack. Despite the musical cue, neither Austin nor Dr. Evil were to be found anywhere in the arena.

    • QUOTES (0)

    • NOTES (2)

      • The men's 1500m speedskating event was notable because it was the first time in Olympic history that four individual gold medalists from the same country competed against each other in a single event. The four gold medalists, from the United States, were Joey Cheek (500m win last week), Shani Davis (1000m win last week), Chad Hedrick (5000m victory last week) and Derek Parra (1500m gold medal at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games). None of the four U.S. speedskaters managed to come away with the victory, however, as Italy's Enrico Fabris came away with the gold on his home ice.
