Penultimate. Meaning "next to last." And any good penultimate episode of a "24" season must gear the audience up for the finale. It should have viewers on the edges of their seats, biting their nails, staring holes at their TV screens without blinking. And it must also deliver in the actual finale, but that's another story. Plus, I suppose a huge shocker at the end would be a nice bonus.
The Drazens tell Jack to go to Palmer's hotel so he can unfreeze their assets, if you know what I mean. Long story short, Palmer fakes his death. Now that Patty's been fired and that stupid storyline is out of the way, this plot development introduces the final conflict between Palmer and Sherry.
Meanwhile, Teri the basket case cries a fountain at CTU, irritating the hell out of both Mason and the viewers. But she and Nina get some time to bond, and she later tells Jack she's pregnant.
    Kim escapes via coffee.
I'm sure this episode had a lot of people doing what I described in the first paragraph, but not me. It's a great, well-made episode and all, but it's a little hard to impress me without a… Wait, why is Nina on the phone with the Drazens?

  • The OTHER mole!

    9.5
    "Superb"
This is a top top episode.

The moment when Jack saves Palmer's life, yet again, is brilliant. I loved how he faked his death and I loved Sherry's reaction to it and what Jack said back to her.

And I love love love the scene just before Jack makes his way to the Drazens when he finally learns that Teri is pregnant. He bursts out crying and its probably the shows most genuine moment so far.

The scene where Kim escaped from the Drazens was also very good but I'm wondering whats going to happen now considering Jacks on his way to them? He's not going to go if shes not there, and they can't end the season without killing the Drazens.

Nina being the mole was THE shock of the season by a mile. But I'll never understand why she cared so much about Teri and Kim throughout the season, and Jack too. Obviously she put on an act to gain Jack's trust ahead of all the others at CTU. Jack is going to be so...mad...at her. I can't wait to see what happens when he finds out about her being the mole.

I really liked Nina too. She seemed like a genuinely nice person. But now it all makes sense looking back at the third episode when Nina was apparently the mole. She obviously covered herself well, and because of her being suspected so early on, Nina being the mole didn't come into my head for even a split second.

Quote of the hour! Sherry Palmer: "You've got to be kidding!" Jack Bauer: "I've never been more serious in my life."

absolutely brilliant episode, the ending, I was amazed at. I was staring at the screen for ages afterwards. The twist at the end has to be the best twist to ever grace the tv screens. The only problem is that it was so unexpected that i now don't trust any more characters. I have watched all seven seasons and even after all these years, Chloe could be a mole that is really evil and it would not surprise me as much as this twist did. I was so taken in by the character that it left me speechless. Wow at the best twist ever, incredible

This is the type of the episode that deserve a 9, and not some boring, filler or transitional episode, as happen sometimes.

Palmer knew what his wife´s was trying to do, this was nice and a surprise. His conversation with Sherry was well done too.

Kim conversation with Drazon Son was interesting. Her trying to escape was even better.

Palmer really likes Jack and he risk his candidature for Jack family safe. The DRazens had a fanstatic plan to kill Palmer and Jack one more time, saves the Day.

Poor Jack, one daughter in danger and Teri says to him that she is pregnant, and he thinks that he have to sacrifice to save his daughter, simple excellent.

The ending, well, simple the best shoking moment that 24 will ever be able to create.

This is the prefect example of what the episode in 24 should be - it had it all. We had the tension and those intrigues in Palmer's part, what his wife was trying to do and he saw it. Then there is CTU and Tony thinking he has the second mole and tries to stop it. And then there is Jack, running around trying to save his daughter life and almost getting Palmer killed.

Anyway, that is really the moment where everything takes fast motion - Jack's very emotional call to Teri, things on CTU... and Kim taking her run and ofcourse the ending. I was somehow sure that not all is right with her but the way it was done - so powerfully and so surprisingly.. It was just magnificent.

    It was great episode.

10:02 P.M.-10:09 P.M.: Jack calls into CTU and tells them he is fine, but needs to delay his job responsibilities to help find Kimberly. Mason and Nina

realize that the only reason Jack would be set free is if the Drazens were going to try to get him to kill Palmer again. Mason calls the secret service

to tip them off and to prevent Jack from getting to Palmer. Palmer gives Patty his room key, and tells him to meet him in 20 minutes. Victor and Andre

Drazen reunite with Alexis, but he dies moments later from internal bleeding.

10:14 P.M.-10:17 P.M.: Patty tells Sherry that Palmer has given her his room key and told her to meet him. Sherry tells Patty to report back to her after

she sleeps with him. Tony discovers that the plans to the detention facility where Drazen is held had been tampered with. Nina orders him to find out who

has had access to them in the last month. She believes there may be a second dirty agent.

10:17 P.M.-10:20 P.M.: Nina tells Teri that Jack has been freed, but he is not yet ready to return to CTU. She also finally tells Teri that the Drazens

have Kimberly. Jack calls Senator Palmer and tells him the Drazens want $200 million of his assets that were frozen when Victor was captured. Palmer agrees

to let Jack past security once he arrives. Patty makes her way to the room where Palmer asked her to meet him. Once there, he fires her for collaborating

with his wife. Tony discovers that Mason had accessed the plans to the detention facility. Nina tells him to find a way to shut down his network access.

10:24 P.M.-10:28 P.M.: David confronts Sherry, and tells her he fired Patty.

10:28 P.M.-10:32 P.M.: Jack arrives at the hotel, and asks Palmer to transfer the money. Palmer insists that even if he wanted to, he couldn't, as the money

was long spent. The phone rings, and Palmer agrees to help Jack by keeping him on the line. As Palmer begins to speak, Jack realizes how he was sent to

kill him -- the phone is a bomb. Jack throws the phone through the window and pulls Palmer down just as it explodes. The Drazens smile, as they believe

    their job finally complete.

10:37 P.M.-10:39 P.M.: Jack quickly jumps to action to search the rubble for clues. Sherry runs into the room to check on her husband. Palmer tells the

secret service to report that they don't know whether he survived. Jack tells Sherry that the world has to believe her husband was killed in the attack.

Sherry is furious. He orders her down the stairs to collect the children.

10:39 P.M.-10:46 P.M.: Mason realizes his network access is down. He rushes down the stairs, and orders Tony to find out when Palmer leaves for Dallas.

Nina tells Tony to restore his access but to redirect everything to her, so she can monitor him. Moments later, Mason rushes down the stairs to order the

monitors turned on. The news has just broken that Palmer is dead. Andre calls Jack, and tells him to meet them for a trade -- him for his daughter. He

warns Jack that if he tries to involve CTU, they'll know. Jack calls Nina and tells her he's going to get Kimberly, but won't say where he is going. Nina

hands the phone to Teri. Jack tells his wife he's on his way to pick up Kimberly. Teri knows something might be wrong, and takes the opportunity to tell

    him that she is pregnant.
  • Probably the best episode of any show I've ever seen. I'm not even kidding. The ending had me speechless.

I bought the Season 1 DVD and this is by far my favorite episode, with the finale close behind.

    Spoiler Alert Begins Here.

Kim's escape was executed so well that I felt like I was right there with her as she jumped off the dock. Jack talking with Teri about their new baby had me about to cry. And the last minute or so was so crazy, and such a pivotal moment in TV history, that I stared at the screen for at least 2 minutes before turning it off.

    Spoiler Alert Ends Here.

This episode marked the moment when I realized that 24 truly was something special.

Everything has been just about wrapped up other then the Drazen situation. Palmer seeing through the assisstant and Sherrys plan was pretty non-dramatic, but thats to be expected compared to the rest of the drama that the show usually comes up with. I thought Jacks involement in the show was some of the best. The scene where he saves David Palmer was really cool, I liked how he figured out the cell phone explosion at the last second. The ending revealing that Nina is the other mole was a HUGE shock. After passing her off as not the mole earlier in the season, I did not see this coming from a mile away. Should make for a very interesting finale.

Kim is again in the hands of the terrorist and they threaten to kill her if Jack doesn't assassinate David Palmer. But Jack's quick thinking saves Palmer's life again. Jack goes back to where Kim is being held, but she escapes and swims away from the Drazens. Another mole is revealed in this episode, someone we wouldn't expect. this show's reaching its climax, and the tension's been building for the last few episodes. this episode promises the action that we expect from this show, it's a really cool episode, i can't wait for the next one. this episode really rocks.

Up until this point I was willing to allow my disbelief to lay quiet. It has been said before by better critics than myself, that the time versus travel issue is a huge stumbling block, but I didn’t care. I let all of those sorts of plot issues sleep. Who cares.

Unfortunately, this episode reveals the second mole and the plot summary here at tv.com reveals whom that person is and, frankly the show is two season old, so saying it again here shouldn’t be too much of a spoiler, but the fact that it turns out to be Nina is unbelievable. Not in the ‘wow, that was really great, completely surprising” sort of way.

On the contrary, it reeked of desperation and bad writing. As if the writers were at a crossroads and had no way of getting to the end of the series without some whizz-bang super-dooper ending.

In context, Nina had shown nothing but sympathy for the Bower family until this episode. She had many opportunities to set up the family in earlier episodes but choose not too. This sudden, and yes it was sudden, change in her character implies that the writers had inspiration with out reflection on the original story line, changed course in the middle, and expected us to follow suite.

This was the only episode that I felt cheated by, which cheapened the finale, because all bets were off at that point. The only way to redeem the show would have been a vague attempt at Greek Tragedy…and alas, the writers fall into that as well, and choose the weakest of the main characters as their Achilles.

In my opinion this was the low point of the series.

  • Palmer almost goes boom and the mole is uncovered. One of the most pivitol episodes of the series.

Starts off decent and quickly gets the Palmer-Patty storyline over with, bye Patty, should've never listened to that witch. In the Middle of the episode we are thrown with a curve suggesting that Mason is the mole. It is a possibility, he has been causing Jack problems all day, accessed the prison files, seems overly pissed at Teri, and gave Alexis back to his father without immediatley getting anything in return. Jack shows up and saves Palmer again, this time from a bomb. This leads to Palmer faking his death which really iritates Sherry, good. Kim actually uses some smarts and gets away from the Drazens. And the biggest shocker to this time, Nina, my second favorite character to this point, is shown to be the mole. Great episode and pivitol to the later seasons because it shows Nina to be the mole and it really cements the trust between Jack and Palmer.
  • Jack Bauer continues to try to get Kim back from the Drazens.

A major twist. I mean who would of guessed that Nina was a traitor. After all the things she did for Jack and when Ira Gaines made Jack try to kill Nina, stuff like that was convincing enough that Nina wasn't a traitor. 24 has so many twists you'd never expect.
