Jack is infiltrated in the enemy territory, thanks to the false alan, to save his family. This creates certainz suspenseful situations and it seems that rick will be the casuality.

His help is crucial for Jack to save his family and the audience fear more for rick life, because he is dispensable.

Again, Nina and Tony are pressed to tell Jack location. This make the audience like tony more than before.

Palmer Plot is on another level now, is scenes were filler, with only one important scene, the final scene.

The final Scenes is filled with action.

Overral, another great episode, with the necessary to catch your attention and interest.

The Best par of this episode is the gunfight.
  • Jack saving his family...

    9.2
    "Superb"
The first part of the episode is quite slow motion as the most of the thing is going around Palmer who seems not to be much action but instead a lot of intrigue. The things turn much interesting when Jack finally gets to the place where his family is held and goes to rescue with some stylish shots.. and ofcourse when in CTU things turn and Tony and Nina are arrested and they have time to think about what to say. The motion there is just broke in the right moment and I think we would have never wanted to hear what Tony had said - he was in lose:lose position and glad that he did not had to make the decision.

And the end - the "accident" with the psychologist, Bauer and his family on run with that kid.. really great ending for 12 hour..

11:02 A.M.-11:05 A.M.: Kevin grudgingly tells Jack where to go. Jack warns him that his family better still be alive, or else. Green has gathered up all

of CTU to thank them for working so hard. She lets them know that there's a high probability Palmer is still in danger, and Jack is their key lead. Nina

and Tony have no choice but to listen to her as she drones on about how they're also looking for the imposter photographer, as the man is probably Jack's

accomplice. When the meeting concludes, Nina calls Jack to give him the heads up. He interrupts her to say that, thanks to Kevin, he's on his way to see

Teri and Kimberly. He asks that she open up the GPS function on the palm pilot she sent him so he can scope out the compound. After she warns him about

Green, he tells her he'll turn himself in right after he finds his family. As soon as they hang up, Tony comes over to ask Nina if that was Jack. She says

it was and fills him in on what he's up to. He thinks she should tell Green. She says she won't do that until Jack gets his family out. And if he doesn't

get them out, then she'll have to live with the consequences. She tells him she appreciates what he's doing, but he shouldn't feel as if he has to continue

covering for Jack. He says he's not doing it for Jack, and walks away. Green has been watching them, and knows that they're hiding something.

11:05 A.M.-11:09 A.M.: Teri and Kimberly drag Eli's body onto a platform, and cover it up with a big metal tub. Teri gives Kimberly a sanctimonious lecture

about how it's alright to kill someone in self defense. But Kimberly admits she's glad the creep is dead. Their bonding moment is ruined when Eli's beeper

starts going off. The pair quickly lift the tub so Teri can get the beeper. She then tells Kimberly they have to get out now before the others come looking

for Eli. Since there are two guys right outside the shed, they need to wait until the coast is clear. Kevin has done as promised and led Jack right to

the compound. Nina calls Jack with the coordinates he requested, but soon does an about face and stresses that she thinks they should bring Green into

this so she can authorize backup. Her suggestion sets Jack off, since he feels CTU could turn things into another Waco. She gives up and sends him the

photos of the compound over the palm pilot. With that done, Jack drags Kevin out of the car, making like he's going to kill him. Instead, he makes Kevin

presentable by wiping the blood off his face. Thinking Jack went back on his word, Kevin reminds him of the agreement. Jack doesn't care about Kevin's

agreement; he only cares about his own agreement, which was that he'll let Kevin go after he knows his family is safe. Like Nina, Kevin warns Jack that

he's being stupid to go into an armed compound by himself. Stupid is as stupid does. Jack uncuffs Kevin, hands him the keys, and tells him to drive. Kevin

makes one last appeal -- if Gaines finds out he brought Jack into the compound, he'll kill them both. Jack says they should avoid Gaines then. Kevin has

no more appeals left to make, and drives Jack into the compound.

11:09 A.M.-11:12 A.M.: Palmer and Mike are riding in the limo together. Mike sees Palmer's got something on his mind, and asks what it is. Palmer tells

him what Carl is doing. Mike thinks he's being paranoid, but promises to call Ferragamo himself to tell him to be on his guard. Palmer says he already

did that, only to get Ferragamo's voicemail. Mike is absolutely furious that Palmer exposed himself like that smack in the middle of his campaign. Jack

hides himself under a blanket in the backseat of the car as he and Kevin approach the security gate. Jack warns Kevin that if anything goes wrong, he'll

shoot everyone in and around the car starting with him. Neill greets Kevin at the gate, and tells him Gaines has been waiting for him. He sees Kevin's

face is a mess and asks what happened. Kevin makes a sarcastic response and has Neill open the gate. Nothing goes wrong; Neill and the other guy with him

    open it.

11:16 A.M.-11:20 A.M.: After Jack and Kevin get safely inside, Jack orders Kevin to pull over. He asks him how many men are on site and what building Teri

and Kimberly are in, and isn't too pleased with Kevin's vague answers. Kevin has one last appeal after all -- he tries to be the straw that broke the Bauers'

marriage by spitting back to Jack all the things Teri told him in confidence at the hospital. Jack rams him in the back of the head with his pistol to

show him who's boss, then pulls out the palm pilot so that Kevin can tell him which building Teri and Kimberly are in. After Kevin points to the former

cold storage shed where they're being held, he attempts to karate chop Jack in the throat, but Jack blocks it and subsequently beats the crap out of him

in a rage. Looks like Jack took care of yet another star witness -- Kevin is out cold. So he grabs the palm pilot, gets out of the car, and sets off on

foot to find the ladies himself.

11:20 A.M.-11:23 A.M.: While Rick and numerous other men are moving stuff out of the compound center, Gaines is on the phone with Drazen, being warned that

time is money. After they hang up, Gaines stops Rick to ask where Eli is. Rick says he hasn't seen him. Gaines tells him he sent Eli to snuff out the women

a half hour ago, and asks him to see what's holding him up. Rick checks to make sure Gaines wants him to finish loading up a truck first. Gaines does.

Meanwhile, Jack is making his way through the woods with his pistol in one hand and palm pilot in the other. He finds the center and sees all the thugs

carrying things to red vans parked right outside the building. Dr. Ferragamo returns Palmer's call. When Palmer says he called to talk about Keith, Ferragamo

reminds the senator that would be a violation of doctor/patient privileges. Palmer throws it up to Ferragamo that he had no problems violating doctor/patient

privileges when it was to the press. Ferragamo mistakenly believes Palmer is threatening him, so Palmer sets the record straight who is. But since Ferragamo

is under the impression that Palmer was the one who covered up Lyle Gibson's murder, he twists Palmer's words and continues to believe he's the one who's

threatening him. In a fit of anger, Ferragamo stubbornly hangs up. Palmer attempts to call back, but only gets his answering machine again. He leaves a

message begging Ferragamo to hear him out, but the shrink won't pick up the phone. Mike gloats that it didn't sound like the meeting went very well. Palmer

wants to go see Ferragamo in person now. Mike reminds him he has to give a speech in an hour. Palmer says he'll be late then. Mike's pleading falls on

deaf ears. Teri tells Kimberly that the men are gone, and they have to move fast. They grab their things and Teri grabs the gun, but before they even make

it out the door, the main door in the other part of the shed flies open. Kimberly goes to hide with Eli's knife in her hand while Teri backs away from

the door with her pistol drawn. The door slowly opens, and somebody jumps out from behind, knocks the gun from Teri's hand and pulls her down to the ground.

Luckily, it's Jack. He keeps his hand over her mouth long enough to tell her who it is. She's relieved, he takes his hand away, and the two share a kiss.

Kimberly runs over and the three hug for a good, long time. He promises to get them out soon.

    And does it deliver.

After hours of searching, Jack enters enemy territory and finally reunites with Teri and Kim. Now, all he's gotta do is get them out. Shouldn't be too hard, what with Gaines and his men watching the entire place, right? Well, not with Rick helping him out, right? …oh, never mind.

Palmer's day hits a major bump when he learns about the death of a certain blabby therapist thanks to an "accidental" fire inside his office. Looks like Carl has accomplished his mission. Needless to say, this ticks Palmer off something fierce and should make things real interesting for the rest of the day (assuming it doesn't peter out at around sunset).

There's some drama at CTU when Green accuses Nina and Tony of hiding info about Jack, and grills them in Holding. It all ends when Jack finally contacts Green directly and asks for reinforcements, now that the whole "can't call CTU" pressure is gone.

The climactic sequence is definitely not anything to miss: Jack has a semi-confrontation with Gaines as they trade bullets. Since S1 is less focused on action scenes than the other seasons, this shootout is a very welcome spectacle. Of course, Gaines' intervention ruins the Bauers' chances for a clean escape, and it just sets things up for a big manhunt in the next episode. Does that sound juicy to you? Because it sure does to me.

    Hourly Highlight:

The first big car explosion of the series.

    "Superb"
This episode is the first half of the rescue of Teri and Kim and its amazing! The Bauer family being reunited is very memorable and there is a lot of action packed into the last ten minutes, which involves the car chase; Jack and Rick shooting from behind the van; a massive explosion. Its mega good!

I had developed a soft spot for Rick in this episode and I was glad that they didn't kill him off. Although he got shot at the end, it was only in the arm, so it looks likes hes going to be alright if he can get through the second half of the rescue!

The Palmer storyline is also starting to get very interesting now that Keith's therapist has been killed.

Quote of the hour! Kevin Carroll: "I got into a fight with your wife, now you gonna open the gate?"
  • Showdown

    10
    "Perfect"
This episode features the first large-scale, bullets-fly-past-Jack, action scene on the show. And this is where this episode, and Season 1 as a whole, succeeds. I wouldn't normally review an episode in the context of the entire season, but I'm going to here anyway in order to describe why this episode is so good. In the first season, a lot of time is given for the characters to just sit down and talk about stuff, and to build the intrigue. So when an hour like this one comes along, the action has a certain gravity and tension to it that wouldn't be there in the faster-paced later seasons. But that's not to say that the rest of this episode isn't as worthwhile as that climactic gunfight. In fact, this episode manages to remain strong throughout, building up to that final scene .

Moving away from Bauer's stellar hour, Palmer's story also undergoes a complete turn with the surprising death of Ferragamo. At this point the good-guy/bad-guy lines are finally drawn, and its all very exciting, but it's not until next hour that Palmer and Carl once again go head-to-head.

The shenanigans at C.T.U. with Alberta Green are the weakest part of this hour, but that's not to say that they are weak. She interrogates Nina and Tony on the whereabouts of Jack, but because Jack calls Alberta anyway, this part of the episode just seems like filler. But at least its interesting filler.

The Best: That final gunfight which I spent an entire paragraph praising.

The Worst: Alberta Green. Please, throw her away, writers.
  • THE RESCUE BEGINS

    "Superb"
Yup, these episodes are exactly why I love Season 1 so much, especially this plot arc. The last half of this episode had me glued to the set, as Jack finally arrives at Gaines’s compound, gets reunited with Teri and Kim, and teams up with Rick to help break them out. Most of this episode and the following episode are some of the most action-packed hours of television in 24’s illustrious history, culminating with a chase scene, a shootout, and a massive explosion all crammed into the last ten minutes!!!! And the adrenaline rush I got from these episodes, starting with this one, is exactly why I watch 24.

    Other random musings:

-Palmer’s storyline is starting to get very interesting, as it appears that Carl had Keith’s therapist burnt to a crisp

-Awesome and hilarious Rick and Gaines interactions in this episode. Gaines = INCREDIBLE VILLAIN

-Neill finding Alan/Kevin completely tied and wrapped with seatbelts. Haha, just a hilarious image.

    Overall score: 97/100 (A+)

    "Great"
I must admit this episode was a little bit more of a filler type of episode then it was an action packed one that I had anticipated it to be. I thought most of the episode would be Jack trying to help his family escape from the compound, but most of the episode just set up for that in the next episode. I think the 2 other sidestorys that are going on right now are getting a little old and it needs to be spiced up. Keiths therapist being involved in the "fire" will led to a lot of tension between Palmer and the man he fired. Greene trying to put Nina and Tony against one another was pretty boring. The interigation tactics were pretty mellow and they wound up getting out of it because Jack happened to call at the last second. I hope the next episodes get a little bit more exciting then this one.

Jack uses one of the bad guys as hostage to gain entry into the terrorist camp. Jack finds the building where Teri and Kim are being kept. He gets them out of there, Gaines and his death squad gives chase. David Palmer talks to Keith's therapist and trouble turns up right there. Inside CTU, the new director gets Nina and Tony to stop cooperating with each other. This episode ends with a cliffhanger again, Eli helps Jack in the escape, but they are cornered, and the bad guys get close enough to them. But Jack comes up with a way to get out of there.

11:28 A.M.-11:30 A.M.: Green asks Nina if she's made any progress. Nina says she's working on the threat assessment. Green blurts out how she believes she

and Tony are both harboring Jack. Nina tells her Jack is not a threat to Palmer. Green wonders how she could know that if she hasn't talked to him like

she claims. Nina tells Green to polygraph them both if she thinks they're lying. Green sees that for the stall tactic it is. Since neither of them will

talk, she tells them to go to two separate holding rooms and wait there. When Tony asks what she's doing, Green replies they're both suspended. Nina says

she doesn't have the authority to do that. Apparently, she does, and to prove it, she pits the two against each other -- the first person who tells where

Jack is will have a career and a future; the other will be prosecuted and discharged. Gaines spots Rick still loading the vans, and yells at him for not

checking on Eli. Rick does as told.

    11:30 A.M.-11:34 A.M.: While staring at Eli's body, Jack asks Teri who he is. When she tells him Eli was sent in to kill them, Jack states the obvious;

that somebody will come in to look for him. Teri's stomach acts up again. Jack sees her in pain and goes to comfort her, but just then Rick starts banging

on the door to ask Kimberly to open up. Kimberly tells Jack that Rick is okay; he's the one who gave them the gun. Jack doesn't listen to her and orders

her to back away the door while he points his gun at it. Rick enters, and Jack grabs him by the throat and starts choking him with his gun pointed squarely

at his chest. Teri and Kimberly both plead to let Rick go as he's on their side now. Jack stops choking Rick, but keeps his gun on him, and asks why he's

helping them. Rick admits that he got Kimberly into this, without knowing where it was going to lead, and wants to get her out of it. Kimberly tries to

go over to check if Rick is okay, but Jack violently pushes her away from him. Jack has debriefed Rick enough for the day and decides to let him sit with

his ^partner.^ If Kimberly was happy to see her daddy a few minutes ago, she probably isn't now. Green is grilling Tony one-on-one in the holding room

where he was told to wait. She says they both know why Nina is covering for Jack, and believes the only reason he's covering for him is to cover for Nina

-- whom she thinks is using him. While she tries to appeal to Tony by asking him not to put Palmer's life on the line, Nina racks her brains out in the

other holding room. Green asks him why Jack grabbed Hayes' gun. Tony says Jack claimed he was trying to create a diversion. Green knows what Jack said,

but what she really wants to know is what Tony thinks. She doesn't believe him when he says he doesn't know where Jack is, and threatens him with jailtime

if he doesn't spill the beans within 10 minutes. Rick rehides Eli's body, and Jack announces he's going to step out for a minute so he can bring the car

up. In a panic, Teri begs him not to leave, even for a minute. When Jack says he'll be right back, Teri tells him every bad thing that has happened to

them has happened because they split up. Like a slasher movie. Since she refuses to let him go, Rick thinks maybe they can hang out here while he tries

to steal one of the red vans. After all, Gaines doesn't know he's turned a traitor. And if it doesn't work, his getting stopped can create a diversion

so the three can make it to the car. Since Teri and Kimberly trust Rick, and Jack knows it's a good plan, he's about to agree when Gaines pages Rick over

his walkie-talkie. Jack points his gun on him again and orders him to answer it. Gaines asks where Eli is. Rick replies that he's out back digging a grave.

Gaines demands he get him this instant, 10-4. Jack tells Rick he has five minutes to get the van. What will happen after the five minutes are up, he doesn't

    say.

11:39 A.M.-11:42 A.M.: Neill stops to take a leak when he spots Kevin's car parked on site. He has to hold it in while he cocks his rifle and checks why

the car is there. When he gets to the car, he finds Kevin sitting in the front seat unconscious with a seat belt tied around his face. Rick walks over

to the vans and tries to time it right so he can swipe one without arousing suspicion. Unfortunately, as soon as he snags one and starts up the ignition,

who should show up outside but Gaines. Rick rolls down the window for him, and is asked what he's doing. Rick says he's taking the van. Gaines says he

can see that; what's he taking it for? Rick is not the greatest liar in the world, and tells him he's taking it to help Eli load up the women. Luckily

for Rick and the Bauers, his fishy story doesn't have much time to sink in with Gaines as Neill pages him on the walkie-talkie to say he found Kevin out

cold in his car. Neill tells him where they are. Gaines says he'll be right there, then tells Rick to drive. Rick hides a rifle on the driver's side before

    Gaines gets in.

11:42 A.M.-11:46 A.M.: Mike warns Palmer to be careful what he says to Ferragamo. When they get to his office, they find the building on fire and the street

packed with ambulances and fire trucks. Palmer starts to get out to ask what happened, but Mike orders him to stay in the limo while he does it. A cop

tells Mike that it was a possible gas explosion. Palmer disboeys Mike's order and gets out anyway to assess the damage. Mike tells him Ferragamo didn't

get out in time. Palmer angrily realizes Carl's men torched his office and surely destroyed his records. Mike doesn't want to jump to conclusions, and

says that it could have been an accident. When Mike figures out that Palmer plans to go public with this, he stresses that even if he's right, this isn't

the right way to tackle it. Tony's time is up. Green returns to his holding room to see what choice he has made. After a few seconds of silence, an assistant

enters the room to tell Green that she has a phone call. From Jack. Jack tells her that if she wants to do his job, she had better listen to him. Miss

High and Mighty replies that she doesn't take orders from him. He just talks over her by explaining that he's located the people behind the hit and has

been reunited with his family, whom they had kidnapped. He says he hasn't spoken to anyone at CTU because he couldn't risk putting his family in jeopardy,

and she has to believe him. Green states it isn't her job to believe him, it's her job to find him. So he gives her his location so she can do just that.

He tells her to bring in air support, says he'll get back in touch, and hangs up. Green calls Central Dispatch, and requests that they find out where Teri

and Kimberly have been for the last six hours.

11:46 A.M.-11:48 A.M.: It's been more than five minutes, as Jack sees when he checks his watch. After they all wonder what's holding Rick up, Jack decides

to use the time to make amends with his family. He promises Teri things won't be like they were before.

11:52 A.M.-11:54 A.M.: Green tells Dispatch over the phone that she wants two choppers sent. Tony and Nina have been let out of the holding cells. Green

tells them that Jack called and told her where he is, so they're flying some commandos in to pick him up. Tony asks her which one of them is she going

to suspend. She says neither of them, since she doesn't have actionable evidence that they withheld information from her. But she plans to keep looking.

Once Green is gone, Nina relays her plans to monitor the field units Dispatch sends. She asks Tony if he's okay. He says Green worked him pretty hard,

and if Jack hadn't called when he did... Nina thanks him for putting himself on the line for her, and promises she won't forget what he did. Perhaps Jack

isn't the only one in CTU that Nina is going to be riding the hobby horse with. Gaines and Neill have dragged Kevin's body out of his car. Gaines splashes

some water on his face to wake him up, while Rick stands by idly. When Kevin comes to and immediately announces that Jack is here and he killed Cofell,

Rick quietly slips back into the van and speeds off. Now that he knows Rick is up to no good, Gaines gets on the walkie-talkie to tell the others to seal

the gates, because Jack is on site.

11:54 A.M.-12:00 Noon: Jack can't wait any longer and is about to go to Plan B when Rick backs up with the van. Rick opens the doors and the Bauers rush

inside, where they are warned that Gaines found Kevin and knows Jack is here. Jack says he'll drive. The instant they leave the area, Gaines, Neill and

Kevin pull up and storm the shed. Gaines uncovers Eli's body, and the trio get back in the car to find Jack. After engineering some fancy driving right

past a checkpoint, Jack orders everyone to get down as the thugs open fire on the van. Bullets fly right through the vehicle, but manage to miss everyone.

After Jack drives through a chain link fence, Gaines, Neill and Kevin spot the van. They shoot the back windows out, then Gaines punctures one of the front

tires, leaving Rick and the Bauers no choice but to ditch the van. Jack makes everyone hide behind the wheels, as Gaines and the others continue to open

fire on them. Jack returns fire, then throws the palm pilot to Teri and tells her to take Kimberly and go through the woods to an abandoned water tower

located near the service road. He'll make sure CTU picks them up there. Since there's too many thugs for Teri and Kimberly to make a run for it, Rick grabs

the rifle he brought and says he'll help. Teri still doesn't want to split up, but through Jack's pleading, finally realizes it's for the best, and the

two of them escape into the woods. Jack gets another idea, pulls out his knife, and punctures holes in the gas tank, spilling gasoline around the van.

He shouts at Rick to run towards the trees in the distance, but on the way over, Rick gets shot in the arm. Jack jumps on top of Rick to make sure he stays

down (like he's about to get up after being shot) and, just as a number of thugs have come up to it, shoots a few rounds at the van until it explodes.

The explosion wipes out a bunch of the henchmen, but only knocks Gaines, Neill and Kevin down. Having bought some extra time, Jack helps Rick up and into

the woods. But they don't get very far before Rick falls down. Jack refuses to leave him behind, and goes back to save him, claiming he'll be able to stop

the bleeding as they soon as they get out of the woods. With Jack as his prop, Rick is led through the trees, while Gaines and the others follow in hot

    pursuit.
  • Come on Jack! You're so close! Gogogogogogogogo!
