Day 1: 3:00 A.M. - 4:00 A.M.

Season 1, Episode 4, Aired

Episode Recap

3:02 A.M.-3:03 A.M.: Janet comes to temporarily, but is too weak to call for help. Then she passes out again. Dan and Rick escort Kimberly, kicking and screaming, back to the van. Despite Kimberly's pleas, Dan refuses to go back and get Janet.

3:03 A.M.-3:04 A.M.: At CTU, Jack tries to patch things up with Nina by telling her what happened to Walsh. He says they have to trust each other because they can't trust anyone else.

3:04 A.M.-3:09 A.M.: The agents drop Palmer off at his hotel room and let him know Pierce wants to talk to him. Palmer makes Pierce wait, and phones Carl to reiterate that he wants a source within an hour. Sherry sees Palmer is back and warns him of the assassination threat. He won't tell her where he went, though. Tony explains a discrepancy regarding the passenger list to Jack. The ticketing files said first was booked full, yet the list shows an empty seat there. Plus, there was a waiting list, so it doesn't make sense for the plane to have departed with an available seat. Jamey manages to extract her first bit of info off the key card: a San Fernando Road address, which on the surface has nothing to do with Palmer. Since Jamey thinks it'll take hours to extract the next piece of the puzzle, Jack plans to go check out the address himself. Before he can make it out, access gets shut off as there's a lockdown in CTU. Mason has returned to say that's standard procedure until they get some answers in regards to the deaths of Walsh and Baylor. Jack tries to leave the building, but an agent won't let him out. So Jack punches him and escapes.

3:13 A.M.-3:17 A.M.: Mason announces what the agents can and can't do during lockdown. Tony tells Nina he thinks Jack was in some way responsible for the two deaths -- and maybe Nina was too. The agent Jack punched tells Mason Jack got out. Mason tries to coax Nina into telling him where Jack went, but she plays coy.

3:17 A.M.-3:19 A.M.: Pierce arrives to state the severity of this particular threat to Palmer. Pierce recommends changing his schedule -- particularly ditching the breakfast he's going to -- but Palmer is more concerned with winning than making himself scarce on primary day. Pierce leaves, and Keith has a talk with his father about what they're going through.

3:19 A.M.-3:21 A.M.: Dan, Rick and Kimberly are back on the road. Kimberly won't stop begging Dan to go back and get Janet. Kimberly tries to appeal to Rick, but he says she's probably dead anyway. Dan does pull the van over; it finally hits the dim-witted junkie that if Janet is alive, she can ID them. So he has to go back and shut her up for good just in case. That prompts Kimberly to carry on more than ever, so Dan gives Rick some tape to tie -- and shut -- her up. Teri and Alan are ordered to pull over by a cop because Alan was speeding.

3:21 A.M.-3:23 A.M.: Alan and Teri explain the situation to the moronic cop. He doesn't care and only wants Alan's license and registration. Teri says she called 911 15 minutes ago and he can feel free to verify it. The cop goes to do just that while ordering them to stay in the car. Alan doesn't want to wait and gets out to yell at him. The cop doesn't like that and places Alan under arrest for disobeying a police officer. Teri is left in the car, so shaken up that she fails to notice Dan driving right past her.

3:27 A.M.-3:29 A.M.: Mason has a private chat with Nina to get her to spill it. Nina still plays coy and threatens to blow the lid off his cover-up. Mason laughs it off, believing it's water under the bridge compared to what Jack has done. He also says he knows about her affair with Jack since Jack bragged about it around the office. Nina doesn't believe that -- at first.

3:29 A.M.-3:30 A.M.: As Jack is on his way to the San Fernando address, he calls Teri. She misses the call because she left her phone in Alan's car, which she's just gotten out of to reason with the officer. Jack arrives at the address. Within minutes of snooping around, he comes face to face with a bad guy. Jack aims and tells him not to move, but he runs away and tries to shoot Jack. An officer in the area hears the shot and calls for backup before going to investigate. The officer catches Jack, thinking he's the bad guy, and goes to arrest him until Jack explains who he is and how he needs assistance. The two stake out the building as Teri picks an inopportune time to return to the car and check her messages. Jack's phone ringing alerts the bad guy to their location, and he opens fire again. Jack wishes the other officer hadn't called for backup as he knows he has to break a few rules with this one.

3:30 A.M.-3:36 A.M.: Mason twists the knife with Nina by reminding her that Jack dumped her and now her reputation in the agency is as nothing more than Jack's lapdog. It works, but she still won't talk. Jack and the officer nearly shoot a janitor, whom she orders to stay put.

3:36 A.M.-3:37 A.M.: Dan slowly pulls up to Janet's body, which is right where they left it. Rick wants him to just put her back in the van, but Dan intends to kill her. Luckily for Janet, Dan can't carry out his plans, as an ambulance was approaching.

3:40 A.M.-3:41 A.M.: Having finished her talk with Mason, Nina warns Jamey that Mason will talk to her next and she can't be intimidated into confessing. Jamey worries since Mason is higher up than Jack, but Nina tells her the orders came from Walsh, who was higher up than all of them. Jack and the officer see the bad guy running away above them in the neighboring building.

3:41 A.M.-3:44 A.M.: Carl is on the phone with Palmer. He's got a name -- George Ferragamo -- whom Palmer knows. Palmer finally comes clean with Sherry about what Maureen Kingsley is doing. Ferragamo was Keith's therapist, and Keith apparently confessed to him that he did kill Nicole's rapist. Sherry believes Ferragamo is lying, but Palmer starts to have doubts as Kingsley is not a trash peddler.

3:44 A.M.-3:46 A.M.: Alan apologizes to the cop, but it's not enough for him. Finally, the confirmation comes in over his radio that they did call 911, and the cop uncuffs Alan, still under the belief that it didn't justify disobeying an officer. Alan and Teri angrily return to the car and drive off. Slowly. Jack and the cooperative officer run through the building as Jack explains his plan, which is not to shoot him. Or Jack, for that matter. Backup is flying overhead by way of a helicopter. Backup also seems to think Jack is the suspect and orders him to drop his weapon. The bad guy tries to use the opportunity to shoot Jack, but he jumps out of the way. The officer nearly shoots the janitor again, angry that he didn't stay put. Because he didn't stay put, the bad guy grabs her from behind and points a gun to her head.

3:52 A.M.-3:52 A.M.: The bad guy shouts at Jack to come and get him, but the officer tells him not to or they'll both be killed. The helicopter backup warns the bad guy to drop the gun as he's warning Jack to drop his. Jack does as told and then rushes the bad guy, who fires his gun and throws the officer to the ground. As Jack is trying to detain the bad guy, he asks the officer for cuffs. There's just one hitch -- she's dead.

3:52 A.M.-3:57 A.M.: Teri and Alan see an ambulance drive past, and ask a woman if she knows what happened. The woman says a girl was hit by a car, tells them the nearest hospital and says it didn't look good. Alan speeds off again. Dan and Rick are parked in a deserted part of town as Gaines pulls up. He wants to know where Janet is. Dan says they killed her because she was a problem. Gaines then wants to know where the body is. Dan claims they won't find it. Gaines tells Kimberly that she's with him now, and if she behaved, she'll be back home safely in a day or two. Be bad, and, well... Mason calls Jamey in and explains what will happen if she gets caught up in Jack's and Nina's web of lies. But she won't talk either. Their meeting is cut short, as Jack has been located. Lockdown is over.

3:57 A.M.-4:00 A.M.: The officer's body is carried off by an ambulance. After he's been checked out, Jack speaks with a third officer and learns the victim's name -- Jessie Hampton. Jack wants the officer to let him take the bad guy in for questioning. The officer refuses since he's just killed a cop, but he does agree to let Jack have a few minutes with him. The bad guy won't tell Jack who he is. He certainly knows who Jack is, though. He taunted Jack, saying that he knew where Kimberly was, and said he will never see her again if he is not allowed to walk. Jack lunges for the bad guy and is held back by the police, cools down, races back to his car and takes off.
