After the last intense episode, it was not possible do create another one. This episode show exactly that.

Everyone gets their share on screen.

First, Teri and Kim continue to be captive, however, this time, teri was raped, in order to save Kim and get a Phone.

Jack situation is worse than ever. He also managed to escape, but he is human and he have to rest a little, good detail in that sense.

Palmer Plot continue to be a little interesting, when sherry make her move, to save who?

What happened with Jamey was unexpected, also this provided a good ending for the next episode.

Since the Palmer assassination threat ended in the last episode, I guess people needed a break from the tension. This episode gives us just that; the characters take a few breathers as they get ready to tackle what's to come in the next few hours.

Jack manages to escape his predicament and hide out with a hostage. His time spent with Lauren Proctor, slow though it may be, gives some nice insight into his character and lets us reflect on the happenings of the last eight episodes, while anticipating what's to come in the next fifteen. Then there's the little plot development where Teri is raped by one of her captors. Yeah, the bad taste in my mouth is probably deliberate, but this also confused me when Teri later found out she was preg…um, pregnable?

Sherry manages to convince Maureen Kingsley to put the Gibson story on hold for the time being. Translation: she buys time for the writers to cram in another twist later on.

What largely keeps this episode afloat is the action at CTU. There's some good drama with Nina, Tony, and Jamey, and the twist at the end (which I did see coming) is another in the line of major turning points that twist the plot around and keep the show cool.

    Hourly Highlight:

Jack's escape from the power plant. Awesome music.

The really have the tempo on, full motion. This episode was somehow very intense.. so many things happening on the same time. first Bauer and his struggle with secret service and then running and that somehow quiet moment with that woman he kidnapped. It was somehow like reality check - Bauer is still human and he is also tired.. I think the best part of this episode for me was Nina and Tony in CTU trying to work things out with Jamey and she somehow, even if she betrayed them, is char I say I do like. The way she and Tony talked while Nina was out - very good dialog. And the end - the choice she made. And what kind of trouble now Nina and Tony will be.

And of course some quite interesting turns in side of Bauer family and Teri/Kim side.. now they have a phone and I hope they will put it into good use.

8:02 A.M.-8:09 A.M.: Pierce and his crew get the Palmers safely out of the plant and into a limo, while Eli and the other thug lock weeping Teri and Kimberly back up in the shed, and Hayes and the other agents turn a handcuffed Jack over to their boss, Frank Simes. With one hand chained to a pole, Jack attempts to plead his case to Simes so he'll uncuff him. Because Tony turned him in, Simes doesn't buy it. Jack tells Simes that Tony doesn't know what he knows, and Palmer's life is still in danger with Jonathan lurking around. Rather than let Jack go, Simes calls Palmer's security to get a list of the photographers who were at the breakfast. After beating her down, Tony gets Jamey to divulge Gaines' name and Nina gets her to divulge that Gaines is the one watching them. Tony and Nina need to get the cameras shut off, but can't cut the feed as that will look too suspicious. Jamey says she knows what to say (as well she better, since she was the one who tapped into the cameras in the first place). Gaines, in a rage, is on the phone with someone trying to find out if Jonathan got a shot off. He hangs up to see all his feeds are down. Before he can find out why, Jamey calls to say she had to shut off his tap, because Milo was on to them. This does nothing to lower Gaines' blood pressure, nor does it buy Nina and Tony much time, as Gaines wants Jack back under his command ASAP. Nina gives Milo Jamey's projects, explaining she's no longer on the team. Greedy Milo wants a pay hike, which Nina says he'll get. From the backseat of his limo, Palmer calls up Mike, who tells him someone has been taken into custody, but they don't know who. Sherry thinks he should have listened to the warnings, but Palmer has a good laugh about his near-death experience. Jack starts yelling at Simes at the top of the lungs. Angry black man Hayes gets annoyed at having to listen to Jack, and forcefully tries to make sit. Simes calls Hayes off, and tells Jack he's turning him in and not letting him back on the case. Jack wants a moment alone with Simes to tell him something in private, so Simes gives Hayes the signal to jet. One on one, Jack explains the truth about Teri and Kimberly, how the terrorists used the threat of killing his family to get him to smuggle the weapon through security to give to the assassin, and how he got Palmer out of the room, thus saving his life. This Simes seems to believe, but he still doesn't have to authority to free Jack, only District does. But Jack knows District won't. Hayes and two other men uncuff Jack from the pole, cuff his hands together, and lead him into the plant's boiler room. As Jack is making his grand exit, Simes says he's sorry. Jack says he will be when Palmer dies. 8:09 A.M.-8:12 A.M.: After observing men working in the boiler room, Jack gets a bright idea, and turns on several valves with his arms -- which in turn blow enough steam in the agents' faces for him to get away from them with one of their guns. A chase ensues, during which Jack jumps a chain-link fence, slides down an embankment leading to the highway, runs out into the street, and with stolen pistol in hand, hijacks the oncoming car of an unsuspecting waitress. 8:16 A.M.-8:18 A.M.: At gunpoint, Jack forces the terrified waitress to drive him where he needs to go, and shouts at her when she botches the directions. He has her pull over in the deserted parking lot of a construction site, and orders her to come with him while he makes a phone call. The half-finished building on the site is locked, so Jack smashes in the window with his elbow. 8:18 A.M.-8:24 A.M.: Tony expresses his disgust with Jamey for betraying her country and being responsible for the deaths of innocent people. He asks her how much they're paying her, figuring it must have been a million or more, and is further disgusted to learn it's just $300,000. Jamey rationalizes her behavior by saying she has to support her son by herself since her husband left her, and that it's not fair that she works twice as hard as the rest of the staff, but makes half as much. Tony dishes up the ultimate insult by calling the little complainer an embarrassment to all of CTU. And you know he means business, too, because he says it in Spanish. Nina returns to say she's got Milo researching Gaines. She asks Jamey to call Gaines and tell him Jack's on his way back to CTU, but Jamey refuses to do anything more until she gets immunity in writing. The phone rings -- it's Jack, calling from the office he broke into. He's relieved that Nina answers, and explains that he put the flak jacket on her because they wanted him to kill her. When she asks why her, he says it's because she started piecing things together. Jack gets Nina up to snuff about what's doing with Teri and Kimberly, and she gets him up to snuff by outing Jamey as the mole. Jack doesn't believe that, as Walsh cleared her. But when Nina tells him that Walsh was mistaken since Jamey already confessed, he realizes she had access to everything -- including details about his family. Even though Nina says Jamey's not cooperating, Jack wants to talk to her anyway. He sucks up to Jamey, professing that he doesn't care about protocol and he'll get her off the hook if she helps him bring down Gaines and save Teri and Kimberly. Jamey sees through his B.S., and continues to demand immunity first. Nina gets back on the phone, and asks Jack what he wants her to do. Since he's about as thrilled with Jamey's work ethic as Tony is, he mentions Jamey's son to Nina, and tells her to bring him in so the kid can see his mommy in handcuffs. Nina tries to make him understand he's acting in the heat of the moment, but Jack carries on, requesting a loaded car (9mm ammo, locksmith kit, the works) be dropped off near the building he's staked out. After they hang up, the waitress asks Jack who he is and what does he want from her. He explains about the kidnapping -- the other one -- but she doesn't understand why he's running from the police then. He reads her nametag, Lauren, and introduces himself as important agent Jack Bauer, whom various people are attempting to detain from his job. Lauren still doesn't understand why he needs her when he's got a car and a hideout. He says that if they find him and try to take him back into custody, he has to make them believe that he's willing to do something crazy for his freedom. She equates that to him shooting her. He attempts to allay her fears by saying he won't shoot her. She believes that, and gets up to leave. When he frantically asks what she's doing, she responds that he isn't the only one with problems -- she works the night shift and was on her way to court for a DUI charge. He decides to bring her fears back by cocking his gun at her before she gets to the door. After letting a good scream out of her system, she has no choice but to listen as he rants about the two people he's killed recently, then decides remaining his hostage is better than making it three.
  • Things slow down after the last three amazing episodes.

    "Good"
In this episode there is major character development with Jack Bauer when things don't go his way with the Secret Service. He goes to drastic measures to escape from them by putting gas in their faces. That scene was very good.

Not much else happened with Jack though. It was a blatent filler when he takes the woman hostage.

Not a lot happens with the Palmer storyline either. Or Teri and Kim. Teri gets raped but manages to steal a cell phone from the man who raped her though.

The interrogation of Jamey with Nina and Tony is probably the highlight of the episode. When they find Jamey has committed suicide is quite a shocker and wasn't something I expected to happen.

Quote of the hour! Jack Bauer: "I have killed two people since midnight. I haven't slept in over 24 hours. So maybe you should be a little more afraid of me than you are now."
  • Jack Bauers daring escape from the secret service.

    "Perfect"
This episode goes down as one of my favourites. Despite the kinda boring start involving Jack trying to convince the secret service man about the kidnapping of his family it is a great episode. My favourite part has to be when Jack escapes the secret service in the pipe room using the hot steam.

After his escape Jack holds a women at gunpoint and forces her to drive as fast as she can. This women has to be one of the most unlucky people i have seen(with the exception of Jack himself). She was on her way to court on a drink driving charge.

Anyway, they stop at a constuction site and this is where they stay for the next 40 or so minutes. At the same time Nina and Tony are trying to get information out of Jamey Farrell who they have just discovered was helping Gaines from the start.

I quite enjoyed the time spent between Lauren (the women) and Jack. It knda showed Jacks more gentle side(if you forget him holding her hostage). Overall i just love this episode and i hope we see more great episodes in the future.

This hour starts and ends with Jack running from the Secret Service. His escape from the power plant, followed by the subsequent carjacking, is all exciting. So is his escape at the end. In between these two events, Jack hides out in a construction site with a hostage waitress. This, however, is not interesting, even during its poor attempts at character development for Jack, and something about that waitress makes her an uninteresting character. Now that all that needs to be said about Jack this hour has been said, lets move on, shall we ?

After David was pulled from the plant before he could get his message out, he spends his time this hour preparing for Maureen’s story. However, Sherry has other ideas, and recommends blackmailing Maureen, if that’s what it takes. David says no, but Sherry calls Maureen anyway and offers her a bigger story if the story on Keith is temporarily kept under wraps. It’s around this point in the season that we are just beginning to realize what an arrogant yet weasel-ish character Sherry is, and it only gets worse from here. Or should I say better from here, as Sherry is a great character and its fun to hate her .

Back at CTU, Jamey divulges the name Gaines to Tony and Nina, and then helps them by cutting off Gaines’ surveillance. I won’t say what happens from here, except to say there’s a nice twist, albeit slightly predictable.

Meanwhile at Gaines’ hideout, Teri gets raped, which allows her to steal a cell phone. She uses the phone to call Nina, but is forced to hang up when one of Gaines’ thugs enters the room. And that’s about all that happens there, making this hour overall pretty boring, with the exception of a few scenes. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with this episode, it’s just…uninteresting.

The Best: Jack’s escape, both at the beginning and the end

The Worst: Well, there are no bad parts, just boring parts. Actually, Lauren the waitress was pretty bad. I pick her.

  • Jack escapes the Secret Service; Eli rapes Teri; Jamey commits "suicide"

    9.1
    "Superb"
In the wake of the thrilling finish to the previous episode, we got an episode that delved deeper into the character of Jack Bauer, as his objectives are now entirely focused on saving his family.

As Jack escapes Secret Service custody and finds himself forcing to take an innocent waitress hostage, we get an opportunity to see Jack as a human being, and the effects of this day begin to take his toll on him. In a rare moment, Jack actually starts to doze off, the first time in the show that he’s ever come close to falling asleep! But seeing Jack interact with ordinary civilians is rare, and usually makes for some interesting scenes and dialogue.

Though not much happened in terms of story advancement in this episode, there were a few memorable moments. In one scene, when Eli threatens to rape Kim, Teri sacrifices herself in place of her daughter, beginning yet another series-long theme of “sacrifice.”

The ending of the episode was certainly unexpected, as we were given our second major character death. Nina and Tony, after an hour long struggle to get Jamey to cooperate, finds Jamey’s wrist slit as a pool of blood develops underneath her body. It was already quite the shocker to discover that Jamey “committed suicide,” but later in the season, this scene would have some significant ramifications…

In conclusion, this was a solid episode, as we got a chance to identify our characters, their motives, and their background.

    Overall score: 91/100 (A-)
  • The episode that shows the best of people.

    "Perfect"
    This episode was fantastic.

The storyline is great but this episode has touched me in a way the others have not, and that is because it shows the best of people.

It is extremely brave of Teri to sacrifice herself instead of her daughter Kim knowing what was coming and it was still brave. It's nice that the mother still loves her daughter even though the daughter has hated her for a long time.

Even though Jamey betrayed everybody, I am seeing a good side to her. She did not do it out of choice, she was forced to betray everybody as she needed money to care for her son. It would have been a difficult decision to make but when you've hit rock bottom and had a son you loved dearly to care for, $300,000 looks like a nice sum just to give information and tap into cameras.

    An extremely great episode.

Jack Bauer is offically a God among men. Only Jack Bauer can escpae from the secret service and FBI twice in only a span of an hour. The escape from the powerpoint was a little unbelivable, but tense throughtout the duration nonetheless. I liked the CTU struggle to gain info off of Jamie, including trying to involve her son to which she was in to help in the first place.

Other then Jack Bauer escaping the episode didnt really have a whole lot else to get excited over. Palmer + wifes storyline has gotten dry and needs to be spiced up a little

  • Things slow down, but character gets some time. Episode summary in review.

    "Great"
Unlike many shows, 24 can't lose as much momentum as the story rebuilds following a pay off like the end of 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM. 24 has had a mixed history with these transitions, but this is one of the better ones. Because the pace slows down, we're allowed to see more character: Jack's vulnerability being stuck in a really bad situation and unable to help his family; Sherry keeping Keith's story quiet using her trademark manipulation; and Teri's love for Kim, proven in an honorable act of sacrifice.

It all begins with Palmer being led out of the plant following the incident. Meanwhile, Teri and Kim are brought back to the farmhouse of doom. Eli's stares are ominous hints to what he wants from Kim. Third is Jack, being taken to a room inside the plant where the head of security, Frank Simes, questions him about what exactly he was doing at the breakfast. Jack is honest, but he must've known that Simes wouldn't believe it. Although Jack has detailed knowledge about who's involved, Simes still has to follow protocol, leaving Jack in a tough situation he needs to get out of immediately.

In a nice directorial transition, they cut from Jack handcuffed to a chair to Jamey handcuffed in that dark room at CTU. Jamey tells them Gaines' name and that she was asked to tap CTU's surveillance. Since Nina can't be helpful stuck in the room, Jamey cuts this feed. This development only further frustrates Gaines, who was trying to locate the unreachable Jonathan, but Jamey is able to keep him relaxed enough to convince him that nothing is wrong and that she can get him Bauer

Of course, Jack's ability to be useful to Gaines again isn't easy, but he uses his keen observations to do so. While he is being escorted to a long day of interrogation, he sees the workers at the plant working on valves releasing steam. He quickly turns knob after knob, engulfing the room with steam and leaving the agents grasping to get him, unable to shoot out of the possibility of an explosion. He escapes the plant and finds a ride via imperiled waitress and soon to be cult icon Lauren.

Jamey's betrayal leads Tony to ask what her price was. After some impressive guesses, his disgust is heightened when she reveals that it was only $300,000. Those who terrorize and aid those who terrorize on 24 do so for many reasons; ideals, money, but Jamey's is the rare case where she helped them out of desperation. With her husband out of the picture, she's having a hard time keeping a good life for her son.

Jack manages to get the waitress into a construction site office, where he contacts Nina. He's shocked to hear that Jamey is the leak and further scared at what she shared with Gaines. However, he tries desperately to appeal to her. Since he is rogue, Jamey is the best chance they have of finding Gaines. Despite his offer to have this incident forgotten, she remains quiet. Jack knows what he has to do to get her to talk: bring in her son, Kyle.

Lauren, listening in to only Jack's side of the conversation, is obviously confused as to what's going on. Jack lets her know as much as he can say about the last few hours. This doesn't work. Though Jack tries to keep Lauren calm and assure her that he isn't going to hurt her, it doesn't work. She has problems too, which obviously are trivial compared to what Jack has faced so far. He gets her back in line before she can leave with the classic line summing up his day so far.

After this episode, Lauren became a popular character among fans, and we can see in this episode that her interactions with Jack reveal someone we hardly see otherwise. Because of 24's format, we aren't allowed to see more than few minutes of Jack in leisure activities. This break while he is waiting for his car shows us how interacts with ordinary people. In some ways, he can't relate like his inability to identify the bolt cutters later in the episode. Other ways, we see a man able to open up and show a man afraid for his family's safety.

Sherry and Palmer return to the hotel. With the first attempt quelled, they now have to figure out how to deal with Keith's problem since Palmer wasn't able to say it in his speech. Palmer's ready to accept and handle the story, but Sherry sees it as letting them take their son. He doesn't buy this plea, knowing that she should've gotten his help when it happened.

While on the phone, Tony apologizes for his ignorance to what Jack was dealing with, but Jack brushes it off because it was the right thing to do considering the circumstances. Also, Secret Service's intervention gave Jack the opportunity to get Palmer away from Jonathan's range. Though their relationship has been bumpy these first few hours, this conversation is a turning point in Tony and Jack's relationship. Not too long from now Tony will become the closest thing Jack has to a friend.

After their conversation, Jack asks Lauren to pick up a pair of bolt cutters from outside so he can free himself. While the last few episodes showed Jack gradually losing his control over the situation, these moments show him slowly getting it back. However, even at the end of the season he still doesn't fully recover from his helplessness.

As Palmer takes a much-needed drink, Novick informs him about the progress of the investigation and that Jack was taken in, but now missing. We had gotten some hints that this there was more to Palmer and Jack's connection than just Jack's assignment to protect him. While it's no surprise that Jack knows Palmer, Palmer faintly recollects knowing Bauer, or at least his name.

The darkest part of this episode occurs when Eli barges into the barnyard of doom, planning to rape Kim. Knowing what his intentions are, Kim fights him off successfully, until Teri intervenes and offers herself in her daughter's place. While it's tough to see this situation, it helps us understand how much she really loves her daughter. She'd be willing to endure a terrible situation so that her daughter won't have to live with it. Unfortunately, Kim still has to hear the muffled creaks from the next room.

In a dark room, Sherry calls Maureen to persuade her to hold on the story. While not directly saying so, she wants her not to tell the story at all, but that wouldn't fly. Instead, she offers her an exclusive scoop on the assassination attempt and the government's possible involvement. This is where we really see how manipulative and conniving Sherry can be. She's acting more for her self-interest and using incentives to get it.

Back at the barnyard of doom, Teri returns to a scared and upset Kim. Although Teri must feel like crying, she maintains her composure for Kim's sake. If they hope to make it out of there alive, they need to remain calm and hopeful that they will get their lives back. One thing that really helps is that Teri stole Eli's cell phone, which she uses to contact Nina at CTU. Unfortunately, she can't give them any information because the Asian guy comes in.

Keith, absent from the hotel earlier, returns, and appears to be in lighter spirits, largely because the story was kept quiet. Palmer has his lawyers working on the case. It doesn't faze Keith as much as it would've before the breakfast. Novick informs him that Maureen is dropping the story about Keith. Palmer knows that Sherry had something to do about it, but Sherry denies it.

Sometimes we can best share our feelings to strangers. While waiting for Jack's ride to come there, he opens up a little bit about his past. He used to do extensive field work, encountering horrible places and events, but none have scared him as much as this one. In all this time to sit on his feelings, it becomes too much. However, instead of exploding, he falls asleep, but not long enough for Lauren to leave.

Nina and Tony tell Jamey that they're bringing in Kyle to get her to talk. Even now, she still won't budge, despite the affects that this development has caused her. But she knows from working there what happens to relatives of those who testify against criminals. Of course, as the only link who could easily cause Gaines' operation to collapse, she can't give everything away this easily. She asks for a few minutes to think it over, giving her plenty of time to die.

Secret Service arrive at the site, and Jack asks Lauren to get the car for him. Considering the way he's been treating her, she would be hard pressed to believe that he was genuinely not going to hurt her when he got back. She heads to the police, alerting them to Jack's presence. Jack frantically runs to the car, driving off with Secret Service out of the way. He must've seen this coming.

Back at CTU, Milo has gathered enough to know that Jamey is in big trouble, so Nina and Tony decide to check in on her again to see if she's agreed to talk. However, when they open the door, they find Jamey's wrist cut and blood spilling profusely. Then Gaines calls. Jamey's unconscious and Nina and Tony look at the phone, confused as to what to do about it. They can't answer it, but if it isn't answered, he'll catch on to the problem.

Following the last string of episodes wasn't easy, but this episode does a good job. Slowing the action gave us time to see more character and possibly catch new viewers up who tuned in to the first of 12 straight weeks of the show. Though Teri's rape didn't pan out as much as the writers must've expected, it's still good to see Teri's love beyond talk. Lauren provided a good one off character, someone who allowed us to see more of Jack the person, but now things are still in shambles. Their only link is incapacitated and Jack is rogue. It's interesting how it all pans out.
  • Lauren the waitress meet Jack the ripper...or something like that

    7.1
    "Good"
This episode suffers the disadvantage of having to follow one of the show's all-time great episodes in the Palmer Breakfast. However, it did introduce yet another great one-episode wonder, our friend Lauren the waitress. We also had to say goodbye to our traitorous CTU mole.

    Highlights

    -Jack's scenes with Lauren

    -Shocking and bloody ending

-Teri proving that she really did love Kim (The question is....why? It's Kim for crying out loud!)

    Minuses

-Other than the very beginning and very ending, Jack did a whole lot of sitting around. That tends to make the show a little less entertaining that way.

-Not a whole lot of things really actually happened

While this was probably the worst of the episodes that made up the Gaines arc, it was still very entertaining. That's a testimony to just how strong that arc really was.
