One of you is bound to get that reference. Right?
This episode is astounding in nearly every way. I'm even willing to forgive the Kim plot, because it's not all that ridiculous this hour. And she fires a gun to boot! But the hallmark for many people is her tearful conversation with Jack as he flies the nuke into the Mojave Desert.
If the Kim storyline is good, just imagine what the others are like. It's a testament to the high quality of this episode that everybody pretty much does nothing for the whole hour—the grand scale of the situation overshadows everything else. In fact, this is literally the only episode of the five seasons aired so far where absolutely no villains, as I define them, make an appearance.
Just to keep the ball rolling, Tony and Michelle concentrate on a recording in Cyprus between Syed Ali and diplomatic representatives for three Middle Eastern countries. Also introduced is foreign intelligence liaison Yusuf Auda, who plays a vital role in the episodes to come, as well as the Cyprus recording and the seventh Coral Snake commando.
With the nuke being taken care of, Palmer decides to fly to Los Angeles, which sets up some great conflict for himself in the hours to come.
But everything discussed so far is mere background noise; what really matters is that Jack's flying to his doom. If you seriously haven't watched this episode yet…I'll be uncharacteristically nice and not tell you how he gets out of this alive, but I will tell you that he gets out of this alive. And it's awesome. And sad. And a little poignant. But mainly awesome. By the way, WATCH IT!!!

This is not the season finale, but it deserves a review!. This episode shows us that 24 continues being as strong and surprising as its first season, with amazing moments and incredible episodes like the present. This is one of the best episodes ever and it has one of the most emotional and tearfully scenes. George Mason saving Jack´s life and giving him an important advice and to watch how the bomb detonates before everyone´s watch is simply awesome.

I thought that 1x24 won´t never be surpassed by any episode. But i think that i was quite wrong. Just Amazing!.

    10/10.
  • The Big Finale of the Nuclear Bomb! THE BEST TV EPISODE EVER!

    10
    "Perfect"
I have so far finished watching 24 seasons 1 & 2 and must say that this is my one of my favorite episodes I have ever seen on television.

The episode features that the bomb is really found and that there is 55 minutes of countdown left till it explodes however since the bomb is impossible to deactivate; President Palmer, Lynn and Mike decide that it must be placed at a location where no casualties will occur. Since the exact safest location is picked in the desert; the pilot must go on a suicide mission to place the bomb at the very specific location (there isn't a choice of doing anything else and the pilot has to be extremely precise) so Jack Bauer turns out to be the pilot who will die to save the lives of millions of people.

The final conversation he has with his daughter is really well acted and how all the events occur in the hour is amazing. This is one of those rare episodes where you are completely addicted to the screen and you are filled with suspence. Just the theme of the episode is so cool and the acting is very emotional.

The last 25 minutes of the episode is the type which could even make you cry! Everything is completely excellent and this is once again the best TV episode ever viewed. If you haven't seen 24 than this is definetely the episode which should motivate you to see the previous ones from the 1st season and the 2nd season. Defintely Worth it!

Amazing, fantastic, superb, fabulous, awesome, cool, mind gripping, touching, suspenseful and etc... There are endless words to describe the episode!

    Cause it is just incredible!
  • I will never ever forget how I felt as I watched this episode...

The nuclear bomb has been found and there is less than an hour until it goes off, and that is just the beginning...

I really enjoyed the discussion between Palmer, Mike and Lynne on where the bomb would be detonated out of the Pacific Ocean and the Mojave Desert. It was one of the less intense moments of the episode for sure, but it was very informative to know to the pros and cons of both locations.

Jack decides that he will be the man to fly the plane carrying the bomb to the location, but he isn't coming back... Jack had no doubts at all, his behavior was quite shocking how he didn't even ask anyone else. I thought, oh my, he must really want to die. And I just kept wondering, how the hell is Jack going to get out of this? I knew he was in all the other seasons so it was obvious he wasn't going to die. The moment when Kate found out Jack was going to be flying the plane was so good. That stare... You could tell she had feelings for him.

I was very moved by the conversation between Jack and Kim; what they said to each other was beautiful and it made me have a huge lump in my throat. I was surprised by how mature Kim was and it made me happy when she told Jack that she was proud of him. No one could deny that her acting was simply superb. Elisha Cuthbert had her shining moment on the show right there and then. I strongly believe that the storylines involving Kim have almost ruined this season as their insignificance have really spoilt the flow of the other storylines, but it was all worth it just for this conversation.

And then, George popped up out of nowhere and I just lost it. The conversation between Jack and George was the highlight of the episode as well as when George took the plane down. I can't describe how much the last fifteen minutes of this episode means to me.

I had grown very attached to George Mason and I was so sad to see him go, but at least he is the biggest hero in 24 history. No one has beaten him yet. I can't get over how much the relationship between George and Jack has developed over the two seasons; you wouldn't think they were the same people if you watched this and then the very first episode of season 1.

After watching all the six seasons, this episode is my favorite and I believe that it always will be as I know I'll never stop getting that heart-wrenching feeling every time I watch those two scenes between Jack and Kim, and Jack and George.

I have decided that this episode deserves three quotes of the hour.

Quote of the hour! Jack Bauer: "I want you to live your life. I want you to be happy. That's all I've ever wanted for you. I want you to try and grow up and be the kind of person that would have made your mom proud, OK?"

Quote of the hour! George Mason: "You wanna be a real hero? Here's what you do. You get back down there and you put the pieces together. Find a way to forgive yourself for what happened to your wife, you make things right with your daughter, and you go on serving your country. That'd take some real guts."

Quote of the hour! Jack Bauer: "You are absolutely sure you can do this?" George Mason: "Jack, I'm supposed to do this."
  • Best episode of the season!!!

This hour marks an unforgettable moment in the 24 hystory.

When you think that you have already seen all that you can see in a season of 24, the writers give us a valuable reason to love the show and surprise the audience in this installment.

This installment is one of the best ever, as perfect as the finale of season one for example, and contains dialogues and moments really good done and really emotional.

At the end, i almost cry.

And the incredible ending of this installment is terrific too.

Kiefer Sutherland give us his best performace in all this season.

And the same with Xander Berkeley who portrays George Mason. You will be remember, George.

    Really perfect!.
  • One of the Most Emotional Episodes!!!!!

    9.5
    "Superb"
This episode was very well done and that type of episode where even Kim can be used to create something good.

If there was a perfect episode to kill Jack, this episode would be the perfect one.

As I expected, George Mason slow death would be to do a heroic sacrifice, but the writers wanted to use that to create some great emotional Scenes Before.

Jack Sacrifice and he desire to Die, lead to a very emotional and fantastic Scene with his daughter.

His interaction with GEorge was great, if not perfect. One more Time, President Palmer show how he cares for Jack.

George final scenes with that music that was playing, made a perfect and emotional moment.

Overral, a episode that appeal to your feelings and empathy and that alone made this episode very special. One of the Best Deaths in 24 history.
  • Heroic act..

    9.5
    "Superb"
So.. the nuclear bomb is on the plain and Jack is thinking about flying it into the dessert to avoid disaster. George does not let him just go to death and change places with him. So, what to think about the episode. It was heroic, I agree and massive and visually impressive. It had all it's emotions and really beautiful places like Kim's and Jack's phonecall and Tony acting like he does when he learns that Jack is going to fly it. And ofcourse the best part - George taking the bomb to the place. So we had a lot of epic moments but it was the end. I think on full, the episode was not too well packed. The beginning was little weak in comparison with the ending.

I was hoping more emotion what would get from screen to me. Yes, they had all the epic moments but somehow it did not infect me.. I did not felt it. I wish I had.
  • great episode...

    9.2
    "Superb"
Jack pilots a plane over the desert to detonate the bomb so there would be minimal casualties. He says bye to his daughter, which was really sad, and he goes. However, George steps in and allows Jack to leave safely and he goes down with the plane. I really like George and this was the perfect way for him to go. He was going to die anyways because of the radiation poisoning, at least, this way, he went out as a hero. It was beautiful. This was the only story in this episode that I actually liked because the president and CTU stuff are boring.
  • The bomb is finally detonated.

    9.9
    "Superb"
This is the best episode of the second season. CTU finally locates the nuclear bomb at Norton Airfield but there is a limited time to dispose of it. Without any hesitation, Jack Bauer volunteers to take the bomb to the Mojave Desert while sacrificing his life. He contacts Kim and they bid a tearful goodbye in the second most moving scene in 24 history followed by the last scene in season 1. Suddenly, we see that Mason has also boarded the jet and insists that Jack escape before it's too late. Mason ends up taking the bomb to the safe location and America watches as the bomb lights up the night sky, concluding one of the best episodes on 24.

This episode sees the end of George Mason, and in my opinion i admire his charecter for doing what he did, even though he would have probably been dead within a week. I cried for ten minutes after the episode had finished! I didnt really like Mason but still...

Had i not known that 4 more series of 24 would be made i would have been absolutely devasted to see Jack Bauer go down in the plane. One thing I wish they had done was tell Kim that her father was no longer on the plane as soon as they knew.. but still a great episode that actually makes a shiver go down my back after watching it!

Giving this episode a 10, to me, isn't enough. I think without a doubt this is the best episode of 24 to date and I would love to see an episode of 24 that is better then this one in the future. The reaction of all of the cast members when they realized that Jack was going to be the one flying the plane - Palmer, Tony, Kate, Kim, everyone - was just amazingly done by all of the actors in the show. George sneaking onto the plane was a twist that we all saw coming, but it was the only way that Jack was going to be able to make it out alive. The scene between Jack and Kim was one of the best scenes that 24 has ever done and it really got me worked up. I also like how they hinted about what was coming next at CTU, with the Cyrprus recording showing that 3 other countries may be involved. Without a doubt this goes down as one of my favorite episodes of all time, tremendous job by everyone on that staff...
  • The end of George Mason

    "Perfect"
This is exactly why I watch this TV series, it has all of the action and interesting plots plus some moments that literally bring me to tears. The scene with Jack saying good bye to his daughter was a very moving scene that was perfectly pulled off. Out of all of the scenes that I have seen in this series, this is definitely in one of the top spots. This episode also features the end of George, who goes out in a blaze of glory. Overall, this episode has made this season amazing if no other episode has done it yet.

Palmer, Novick and Lynne brainstorms their options for disposing the nuclear bomb. They figure out that the best way to get rid of the bomb is drop in the middle of the desert. Jack volunteers for the suicide mission. This episode is so exciting, so much stuff happens here, the action is just relentless. This is also a very sad episode, this is the last time that George Mason will be appearing. things happen in this episode, the tension leads to something new for the next episode. this is what i like about 24, it's something that only 24 can bring on tv.
  • You'll be missed, George Mason!

    9.4
    "Superb"
This is one of my favorite 24 episodes. Lots of drama, emotion, and a shocking ending.

Jack decides to drive the plane with the bomb on it, and blow it up, saving millions of people, but sacrifising himself. Although Mason makes an offer: that he'll do it instead of Jack because Mason is dying anyway...

but Jack refuses, because Mason can die any second, literrally.

Although it was predictable, still, very surprising, that Mason was on the plane along. Luckily, he didn't show up for a while, so Jack could have talked with Kim. Very emotional phone call, I had tears in my eyes.

This episode was the grand finale for George Mason. He was brilliant. The last scene of him flying the plane is very touching. Tearjerker. The closing moments show the bomb explode... incredible.

They blew up a nuclear bomb. They did it. 24 is incredible.

This is easily the best episode of 24 ever, hands down.

This is what i call TV. It brought the best performance out of many characters, especially Xander Berkeley who's playing George Mason.

The last speech of Mason to Jack, and his going out in a blaze of glory was fantastic, that scene was heartbraking.

This episode is the peakpoint of the entire show,

this episode simply is 24 at it's best.

  • Excellent episode with a great end and also some pretty shocking moments like the one when Jack called Kim

    9.7
    "Superb"
Overall I think it\'s one of the best episodes in season 2 so far (haven\'t watched whole season yet). Really brave from Mason when he saved Jack by giving him parachute. On the other side Kim is really in a bad position since she does not know that her dad is still alive.

Also great job from President Palmer when he told Sherry to leave, despite her constant acts when she tries to convince him that she is there only to help him. I never really trusted her, not after what she did in 1st season.

Clearly this episode nicely shows us how America is actually country inside of country. Having that many agencies that cover things up between themselves. CIA hiding ops from NSA and vice-versa...

Hope that next episodes will keep the thrill up like this and previous ones.
  • One of the best episodes of 24. This is more likely a 'drama'-ish episode, not an action filled one, but... It's just the way it should be.

    9.2
    "Superb"
Season 2 to me ended here.

    The bomb goes off.

Yes. It does. And its damn spectacular.

The drama is incredible. Jack flying the plane, actually commiting suicide? Phoning his daughter.... Who thinks... these are the.. last words?

    Incredible.

Very strong scene. And what's even more stronger: Mason being on the plane.

And taking Jack's place. Although it was predictable, it was so... powerful.

And sad. I know George got silent clock once already, but he did deserve it again.

George Mason... is now.. a hero.

Xander's , Kiefer's, Dennis' actin was top notch.

The Palmer storyline was on the top, too.

I cried during and after this episode, i must admit.

    Long live George Mason.
  • This is a great episode featuring an extremely emotional scene as well as a great conclusion to one of my favorite characters on the show.

    10
    "Perfect"
I'm just now getting into 24, and I've been making my way through season two. This particular episode was amazing! Even though I'm a guy, I was bawling my eyes out during the phone conversation between Jack and Kim. It was very touching and very emotional.

Another awesome part of this episode is George Mason's grand finale. I've always loved his character, and in this episode he proves his integrity and valour in a brilliant and stunning manner.

All in all, the whole episode was very dramatic and suspenseful. Just when you think everyone's safe, the rug is pulled out from under you.

But then, that's what 24 is all about!
  • The greatest episode of 24 ever filmed and acted...

    10
    "Perfect"
As I said in the summary, this was the greatest episode of 24 that had ever been filmed and acted. This crucial episode was the nail-biting tearjerker that tugged at your emotions. Although I am not a sensative person when it comes to TV, this was absolutely the only episode of 24 I ever cried at. The true idea of mortality and fate was discovered and Jack\'s purpose on earth was established. Xander Berkeley\'s performance in this episode as the ailing George Mason was stellar and Oscar-worthy. Berkeley deserved an Emmy nomination for this role in this episode. This episode receives my gold medal of true acting since the interactions between George Mason and Jack Bauer felt so realistic and genuine. This was acting I had never seen on TV. This episode goes down as my favorite episode of 24 and it will be the most memorable.
  • Best of Season 2!

    10
    "Perfect"
This episode in my view was the best of the 2nd season of 24. The best parts of the episode (spoilers ahead) were the conversations between Jack and Kim and then Jack and Mason just before he bails out.

On the other hand I found that the music in this one was spot on especially the last scene with Mason as he was taking out the plane with the nuke.

It is considered one of the best ever episodes with the one of the scenes of all time. (Mason and jack before he bails out).

    A season classic
  • Best one I've seen so far...I was biting my nails the whole time!

    10
    "Perfect"
This episode was masterful. Everything was perfect about it. Kim reaction, George and Jack's reactions...everything. It was perfect. I almost started crying during George and Jack's conversation on the plane. Jack is taking his wife's death so hard, that he just wanted to stop fighting and save his country while going down a hero. It was great to see him get so emotional. I wanted to scream to Kim that he was okay when she saw the explosion, but I'm still waiting to find out how she finds out. It'll be hard to top.
  • Best Episode of 24, meaning it's the best tv episode ever

    10
    "Perfect"
This Season 2 episode was the best of 24 up to that point, and after the 4 seasons so far, it's tied for my favorite episode of all time. Only Chase escaping Mexico in Season 3 and the season finale of season 4 can match this tv brilliance. I knew they would not kill off Jack so easily, even though dying for his country would be the best way to kill off Kiefer Sutherland's character. Jack's conversation with Kim was tearjerking to say the least, and the fact that Tony found Kim for Jack shows the bond that Jack and Tony share, which can be seen in their trust in later seasons...mainly 4. Too bad for Mason though, because I was actually liking his character this season. Oh well, watch this episode because it proves why 24 is the best show on television.
  • Yeah, I'll throw it out there: best TV episode ever.

    10
    "Perfect"
I really don't want to be a drama queen here, but this is my favorite episode of my favorite TV show. Had the most emotional scenes, a heroic death, and...come on, they exploded a friggin' nuclear bomb for crying out loud. How can that ever be topped?

    Strengths

-The intense urgency of the episode. Everything had to be done before the nuke went off. I like how it was supposed to go off conveniently right at the end of the hour. :)

-Great scene with Mike and Lynn discussing the options that Palmer had with deciding where the nuke needed to go. It was very informative and you weren't left wondering why they didn't just fly it into the Pacific.

-Mason's unexpected appearance. That should've been a clue for the twist, but I never saw it coming, even though I knew there was no way Jack was going to die.

-Mason appearing on the plane just as funny as ever.

-A powerful gutwrenching scene between Kim and Jack as Jack had to say goodbye. Revealed both characters' depth so beautifully. Jack telling Kim to "live (your) life" was brilliant. Kim saying "you can't do this to me daddy" really revealed just how selfish she was. Not to fault Kim of course as I may have reacted the same if I had been in her situation. She felt that losing both parents was just too much. Kim's stupid storyline during the year was worth it since it meant she would be in on this conversation.

-Jack and Mason's final conversation. Mason saying he was supposed to do this was so powerful and, wouldn't you know it, I'm actually tearing up just thinking about the way he said that so beautifully.

-The final shot of Mason as we see the plane starting to roll and dip as he guided it into the crater. *sigh*

-Everyone's various reactions to the nuke going off.

-Oh yeah....they exploded a nuclear weapon on US soil on a TV show in a post-9/11 world right before we were going to war with Iraq. My God.

    Weaknesses

-Special effects were kinda cheesy like they always are on 24.

-Wished there had been a silent clock at the end.

    RIP George Mason

I wish Xander Berkeley was still a part of 24.
  • The best episode in Season Two and possible the best episode of 24 to date.

    10
    "Perfect"
This episode is great. In it, the nuclear bomb goes off. While there is no real action in this episode, it is amazinlgy pulse-pounding, as Jack flies the plane with the bomb out on a suicide mission. The intensity is like nothing that has been seen on 24 before. It is not action-packed, and yet the emotions of all of the characters run high in this emotional episode. When Jack talks to Kim for what he thinks is the last time, it will make any viewer cry. The music in the entire episode is also amazing, especially in the aforementioned scene and the scene in which the bomb goes off. In fact, Sean Callery won an Emmy Award for his music in this episode. It is definitely one of the best episodes of any show on TV.
  • A Classic episode, one that viewers should always remember.

    10
    "Perfect"
What's going to be remembered about 24 long after it goes off the air, is its plethora of shocking moments that leave the audience reeling. Long after the episode has ended.

This episode is just that, what many may arguably see, as the best episode of the series. As the Nuclear Emergency Specialist Team finds the Real Bomb at the end of Episode 14, we are unaware of how much time is had before the Nuke goes off. However, this question is soon answered in Episode 15. The bomb will explode within the hour.

What adds to the shock of it all, is seeing Xander Berkeley's character, George Mason, resigning his position as Director of CTU. Tony Almeida takes his spot, and is granted the access codes to CTU, from Division.

As the time ticks down, Mason surprisingly meets Jack at the runway, saying he wants to see the thing that kills him, to the end. Jack denies him the ability to see this through.

What's a characteristic of the series, is its powerful score, by Sean Callery, to help feel like the viewer is really there, it involves the viewer in the moments they're seeing.

This certainly holds true for this episode. A solemn, yet powerful score drives this episode. We can best see this when Jack gets on the plane, and Kate calls to him.

What can probably be consider one of the four most emotional moments of the episode is when Jack speaks to Kim. Jack bids a tearful farewell to his daughter, telling Kim to make her mother proud.

It is shortly thereafter that we see Mason stowed about the small Cessna, catching Jack off-guard. With about a half hour to go, Mason convinces Jack that he will fly the bomb into the Canyon. Jack has one of the more intimate conversations with Mason, one of the more revealing, and well-put together conversations of the show.

Jack bails out of the plane with 4 minutes to go, as we see Mason taking the plane into the desert.

President Palmer is in the air, on his way to Los Angeles, as the bomb detonates to end the episode.

Overall, this is one of the best episodes of the 24 Series. Through several revealing moments and emotional connections between several of the characters, the viewer feels the genuine emotion of the situation at hand. With Mason bringing the bomb into the desert, the viewer realizes the heroic personality of George Mason.
  • The death of an old friend, in an all-time classic episode.

    10
    "Perfect"
After dodgy and unbelievable scenes in the past few episodes, what with Kim's walk in the woods and Marie Warner as a baddie, ep 15 of S2 sets out to correct the problem and give the show some shine. Easily achieving it's goal this episode is one of the all-time greats in the history of the show, and perhaps the real highlight of S2, it's nearest rival of course being #3 : The CTU explosion.

Interestingly, this episode also marks the first "ending" of the season( a la the Gaines shootout in the first season), as many storylines are brought to an end, and new ones introduced. The bomb is detonated in a safe enviroment, Stanton and Sherry's treason uncovered, while new characters make their debut at CTU along with a new team goal. George Mason's fate is also revealed, and it's with him that the episode's timeless quality lies.

Near the beginning of the episode it's decided that Jack's going to pilot a plane carrying the bomb to the Mojave Desert, and that it's one mission he isnt going to come home from due to complexities. Kiefer scene's with daughter Kim Bauer was brilliant, as was his "saying goodbye" to President Palmer. Over the episodes their friendship had really grown, so it was almost upsetting seeing David hear of who was the pilot, and how he was losing as a friend.

After a season and a half of arguing, dry humour, and general dislike, Xander Berkeley's character really shines through in this episode, as after sneaking aboard the plane with the bomb, it's decided he's going to be the pilot, and lets Jack continue his life. The character transformation is incredible, and proof that Xander is more than a one-mood actor. Similar to the Bauer father-daughter conversation, his and Jack's dialouge to each other is upsetting, and accompanied with an excellent soundtrack, it's hard not to cry.

Even after having seen the episode a total of three times in two years, the episode still maintains it's tear-value and excitement. Truly the signs of an all time classic episode.
  • absolutely great!!! it awaken the papa's girl in me...

this made me cry... and i mean, a lot!!! the goodbye-phone conversation between jack and kim bauer is the major event in this episode and basically, says it all... i cried heavily from the first minute of their talk up to the end... it was executed well by the two actors. i could just imagine what kim felt when she heard that her father was the one who's gonna pilot the plane away from los angeles, the way she cried made it so convincing. however, i feel that jack was less emotional than she was which is acceptable for someone who projects a very strong personality... i felt so good when jack didn't have to die and the bomb didn't go off but i hope that george mason's heroic deed would be more higlighted on the next episode...

    keep it up...

  • You want a series classic? Three years on, this has still to be beaten.

Its the final hour for the bomb as decisions and sacrifices are made to save the world.

I remember when I first watched this back in 2003. You knew you were in for something special when you found out the writer - Robert Cochran hadn't touched an episode since the back end of Season One and I was starting to think the series creator had moved on to pastures new. But he was just saving his strength - and comes roaring back with this classic - still the best "24" ever.

Its just so hungover with death and sadness -

the lighting is so moody with Jack always half in light and shadow, but during the episode, the shadows are growing. The Bauer family are struggling to contain their emotions , George Mason is looking like the walking dead and President Palmer is faced with another military death under his command.

Such a refreshing change of scene for the President and our first chance to see Airforce One.Palmers quote from Lincoln is quite apt about events controlling him - a eerie taster of the events later on this season with the coup and next season with Stephen Saunders. Check Mike Novicks reaction to Palmers quote about options - your first taste of a traitor in the ranks is right there, people.

There are so many scenes of merit here, its hard to know where to start - Kates' silent shock when Jack flies off is one. Kim and Jacks phone call still brings a tear to my eye ("I've been SO mean and SO bad to you") SOB.And of course George and Jacks final chat. And its accompanied by the most sublime music. Three years on, its still the thing that people mention to me.

The theme kicks in around 16minutes and does many things at once - its joyous, its sorrowful, it sends a chill down the spine - a simply wonderful creation. I believe this piece (amongst others) got the composer Sean Callery an Emmy award - if not, he damn well should have - and it was a major part in getting him put on the major credits at the top of the episode from Series 3 onwards.

"Unless maybe you wanna die - you've had a deathwish ever since Teri..."

The last five minutes are what lifts a great episode into a contender for the top TV ever - how can you beat the events of this hour? Sure, the series has tried since , but when the historians look back on the best TV of the 21st century, this show and this hour will be up there fighting.

  • One of the if not THE best episode of the season

    "Perfect"
I was looking through this second of tvtome and I noticed that n one had bothering to review any of the second season. So I figured what the heck and give it a shot. This is the last episode I have watched, so I'll make it my first review.

Let me go ahead and warn...this review has spoilers. Even though in this episode, it's not like you didn't see them coming.

The episode opens up with the knowledge from the last minute of the previous one...this is the real bomb and it will go off at any minute. Despite the fact that we all know the bomb isn't gonna just go off and kill everyone, the scenes with the bomb squad were very good. It's very good how 24 is able to make the plot seem realistic (except for Kim..more later) and still focus on Jack. These bomb squad guys are now the most important thing...it's all riding on them, yet we don't get an intense red wire or blue wire scene...we get Jack. And President Palmer. I will just say Dennis Haysbert rocks hardcore as Palmer and talk about it in another review.

The second big topic of this episode is something that is a running theme in this season. And that is Kim Bauer. I think Elisha Cuthbert is one of the hottest girls on the planet and her acting is extremely good. Then agian it's rare to find a wooden actor on 24. Anyway...all that aside, the writer's just have it out for Kim Bauer. This girl should hide under her bed the minute something bad starts to happen or maybe go get some common sense. I won't even start with the whole Gary/Mountain Lion/Lonnie thing. Frankly, her entire story arc is just unbelieveable. No one can get in that much trouble in such a short period of time...it honestly feels liek the writer's are on a roll with jack and then someone in the back of the room goes oh yea...what about Kim? And instead of beating that guy senseless (like Jack would do) they come up with something crazy to happen to her.

Anyway, in this episode she shows a little common sense and actually made me sit up and go "Whoa, go Kim!" She tries to hitchhike and a guy pulls over (after two biker drive past...MENECINGLY!) and the minute this guy pulls up I thought oh crap. Sure Kim isn't this stupid. But then I thought back and realized she probably was. But she pleasently surprised me by saying no and then shooting out the guys back window with the guy Lonnie gave her. She actually acted like she was related to Jack Bauer.

On to the reason I gave this episode a 9 out of 10. We all know from the minute someone says the pilot of the plane flying the bomb is going to have to go down with the plane, it's going to be George Mason. The guy has been dying since hour 3, and honestly, I was very sad to see him go. He wasn't my favorite person in season 1, but he quickly became one of my favorite character's in season 2. So it's no surprise that he's on the plane.

But what is incredible about this episode is the drama. The only real drama I remember in the first season is when Nina lied to Jack, telling him Kim was dead. But this episode has two AMAZING scenes.

In a show like 24, it would be so easy to get caught up in the plot and use the characters simply as pawn on the chess board of the writers. Yet this episode takes time out of everything and actually has one of the more emotional scenes I can remember on TV. And that is Jack saying good-bye to his daughter. This scene is very strong, very well acted, and very well put together. The looks of the woman giving Kim a ride is a very small touch, but it is perfect to show how people give their lives all the time for this country, and most of us know absolutely nothing about it.

The second reason is the scene in the end between Jack and George. I knew that Goerge was going to die in this episode before I ever saw him in the back of that plane...you simply cannot kill Jack Bauer. Yet George's arguement to jack about why he wasn't willing to turn the plane over to him was very very good. It revealed thing about Jack's character that we all saw, yet never put quite like that. When you look back and see all the things Jack did this season, it makes a lot of sense that he has a death wish without even realizing it. This was very powerful stuff.

The final montage in the end was incredible. There's nothing more to say about it. Except too much parachuting.
