Episode Recap

5:02 A.M.-5:10 A.M.Jack hides behind a group of shelves as Sherry Palmer and her goon search the place for Alex.

At the White House, Acting President Prescott speaks with an advisor, who tells him that the air strikes can still proceed as planned since Palmer's hesitation didn't delay them. Prescott exits the room as an animated world map shows the bombers approaching their targets.

At the President's LA office, Palmer is being held in a small room when Mike and an assistant pay him a visit. Mike tells him that Prescott needs his key codes. Palmer asks how much longer Prescott plans to hold him. Mike says Prescott will let him go after he makes a formal announcement to the public about Palmer being removed. Mike tells Palmer that his codes now belong to Prescott. Palmer begrudgingly drops a wallet on the table. Mike's assistant takes the wallet, removes a card and inserts it into a disk drive. Then Mike and his helper walk out, leaving Palmer making eye contact with Agent Pierce.

At CTU, Chappelle holds a conference and tells everyone that Palmer has been removed from power. Tony asks why, but Chappelle brushes him off. Tony persists, saying that he knows Palmer was removed because he wanted to call off the bombings, which makes Jack's mission even more relevant. Chappelle says that Jack has cried wolf twice now and they have orders not to let him investigate any further. Chappelle ends the meeting and Michelle asks Tony what he plans to do. Tony says he must try to find someone upstairs to give them support.

Back at Hewitt's loft, Sherry and her thug are about to leave when Jack steps out of hiding and knocks the guy down, then shove Sherry on to the sofa. Jack asks the guy who he is and Sherry says he's her bodyguard. Jack pistol-whips him to sleep and looks at Sherry. They recognize each other and Jack demands to know what she's doing there. She says she's trying to help Palmer, but Jack knows she's no longer part of his life. Sherry says that she knows about Hewitt and the false audio recordings. He continues to press her and Sherry stands up, ordering Jack to stop talking down to her. Jack fires a shot into the wall to get her attention, which works. Then he asks her again what she knows about the Cypress recordings. She says she still has connections in the White House and knows that experts have been working on them for the past six hours. She knows that Alex Hewitt manufactured them for Peter Kingsley, a representative for Caspian Sea Oil. Kingsley wanted to start a war between the U.S. and the Middle East to drive up the price of oil. Jack sees light coming through the bullet hole he made in the wall. He orders Sherry to sit and fires into the wall again. "Come Out!" he yells. A panel in the wall opens and Alex emerges. Sherry quickly tells him not to say anything, and Jack orders her to shut up and slams Alex against a wall, ordering him to start talking.

5:14 A.M.-5:19 A.M.: Jack continues to interrogate Alex about the recordings. Alex explains that he used a tape of Syed Ali's voice, plus three Middle Eastern men to create a fake recording with a special program that he invented. Jack tells Alex that he's a traitor and that he's busted, but Alex wants Sherry to help him out. Jack asks him why he's counting on Sherry and Alex says that Sherry called him earlier that day and offered her assistance. Jack says he's the only one who can help Alex now, but Alex still refuses to talk to anyone but Sherry. Jack takes Alex's keys and locks him in a closet, then goes to Sherry and demands to know the real reason why she came to the loft.

Sherry admits that she came to protect herself, since Alex might have tapes of her talking with Kingsley. Sherry says she knew about the bomb, but Kingsley promised it would never go off. Jack starts to call CTU, telling her she's under arrest for treason. Sherry tells Jack she's the only one who can convince Alex to cooperate, and she'll want full immunity in return, otherwise it's just his word against hers. Jack hangs up, and angrily demands her to start talking.

Sherry admits that she conspired with Kingsley because she wanted revenge on David for divorcing her, so she planned to bring down his presidency. She reminds Jack that she'll only admit it if she's given immunity. Jack lets Alex out of the closet and tells him to talk to Sherry.

5:20 A.M.-5:23 A.M.: Palmer tries to convince Pierce to aid him in getting a message to CTU using a sat phone, even though Pierce is under orders not to discuss anything with Palmer. Palmer reminds Pierce that he has a son in the Navy, so he should help insure that the cause his son would fight for is a just one.

At CTU, Michelle orders Carrie to update Division on the database. Carrie asks Michelle why she can't do it, but Michelle says she's on something else. Carrie accuses Michelle and Tony of going behind Chappelle's back to help Jack Bauer. Tony interrupts and tells Michelle to tell Carrie what she's doing. Michelle pauses and Tony tells Carrie that Michelle has just been authorized to do some work on the presidential power shift. Carrie says it sounds like a promotion and walks away. Then she goes to Chappelle and tells him that she suspects Tony isn't fit to run CTU because he has Michelle working off-book. Chappelle thanks Carrie and glares at Tony.

5:27 A.M.-5:34 A.M.: Jack calls Tony and finds out Palmer has been removed from office. Jack tells Tony about his discovery of Hewitt and the false recordings and requests for air transportation so he can bring Alex into CTU for further questioning. Tony says it will be a problem because Chappelle won't authorize it, but Jack tells him to deal with it.

Sherry tells Hewitt not to worry since any deal they make will include immunity for both of them, and not to worry about Jack; she can deal with him. Sherry tells Jack that Alex will demonstrate the audio technology he used to fake the audio files in exchange for immunity. Jack says the chopper is on its way.

At CTU, Tony runs into Chappelle and tells him that Jack has new evidence that will prove the Cypress audio is fake. Chappelle says Jack can bring it in, but he won't give up a chopper to go get it. Tony starts to argue, but Chappelle tells Tony that he's been reassigned since he's a liability Chappelle can no longer afford. He has 15 minutes to clean out his desk and leave the building.

At the loft, Alex starts to demonstrate the technology for Jack. Alex grows suspicious about his freedom. Jack tries to calm him down when Sherry suggests that they have federal council meet them downtown. Jack tells Alex that there will be no lawyer. The deal is for Alex to show him the technology and then they'll leave. Sherry gets nervous as she listens. Alex says he wants to talk to Jack alone, so Sherry walks away. Alex asks Jack if Sherry plans to double-cross him. Jack reassures Alex that Sherry doesn't plan to screw him over. "I think she likes me," Alex says creepily. "I think she does," Jack says coldly.

5:39 A.M.-5:43 A.M.: Kim arrives at the Matheson's home to collect her things. An officer lets her go inside while he waits in the car. Kim stares at photos of Carla and Megan as she goes upstairs.

Michelle and Tony are agonizing over Tony's sudden lack of employment when the emergency line rings, and Tony answers. It's Palmer, who wants to talk to Jack. Tony connects them and Palmer tells Jack about his removal. Jack tells Palmer that he found Hewitt and that Sherry is with them. Palmer tells Jack not to trust her and then gets on the phone with Sherry. Sherry tells Palmer that she wants to help him so they can find the truth. He tells Sherry not to interfere with Jack. Sherry hands the phone back to Jack and Palmer tells him that it's important to bring the evidence to light as soon as possible before the bombs are dropped. Jack tells Tony to hurry up with the chopper. Tony says he's working on it and tells Michelle that he'll need her help with something as he gazes down at Chappelle.

5:44 A.M.-5:47 A.M.: The cop at the Matheson home is hanging out when Gary Matheson suddenly appears with a grin on his face.

Mike enters Palmer's holding room and orders Palmer to give up the sat phone. Palmer does so reluctantly and Mike orders his men to put Pierce under arrest. Palmer tells Mike he should be ashamed of himself, but Mike says he's only being a friend to Palmer. Palmer retorts he doesn't want a friend, but someone to do the right thing, and apologizes to Pierce, as he's being led away.

Kim is packing her suitcase, as Gary comes running up the stairs with the cop's gun and holster. He runs into his room and grabs some money, a passport and a stash of pot from a lamp. Kim hears something and calls out for the officer, then checks the master bedroom. Gary hides in a corner.

Michelle calls Chappelle and tells him that Rooden wants to see him in holding room one. Chappelle says Rooden can come to him, but Michelle says the intercom in there is still broken. Chappelle goes to the room, but Michelle is the only one there. Suddenly, Tony grabs Chappelle from behind and stuffs a chloroform rag in his face. Tony tells Michelle to go send the helicopter for Jack as he injects a needle into Chappelle's arm.

5:51 A.M.-5:57 A.M.: Jack tells Sherry that Palmer was kicked out of office, telling her she got what she wanted. Tony calls him and says the helicopter is on its way to pick them up. Jack tells Tony to bring in the Attorney General since Mrs. Palmer will try to cut a deal. Sherry gets anxious and says she wants the deal firmly in place before they get there, but Jack orders her to sit down.

Kim is packed up and about to leave the Mathesons' house, when she happens to glance out a window and sees the cop's corpse lying in the bushes. She starts to run for the door when Gary sees her and chases her through the house. Gary runs into a bedroom where she disappeared and turns on the light, but she's not there. He realizes she could be in the attic, so he starts to climb the ladder. He tells her that its all her fault that he killed his wife. Kim clocks him as he sticks his head through the attic opening and he falls off the ladder unconscious. Then Kim falls through the dry ceiling and hits the floor next to him, stunned. She revives before he does and grabs his gun and cell phone. She calls CTU and asks Michelle to talk to her father. Michelle finally connects them and Kim tells Jack about Gary. Jack tells her to get out of there, but Gary starts to wake up. Jack tells Kim to shoot Gary. Kim hesitates as Gary moves, calling her a bitch. She pulls the trigger, killing him. Jack tells her to shoot him again. Kim wales and shoots him a second time. Jack tells her to wait there and someone will be there to pick her up.

5:58 A.M.-6:00 A.M.Alex starts to panic and tries to leave. Sherry stops him, warning him that Kingsley will kill him if he goes.

Kate is taking a bubble bath when Jack calls her and asks her to send the policeman there with her over to pick up Kim. She can't do it, since she sent the policeman away, but offers to go get Kim.

Sherry and Alex continue to argue. Jack is about to call CTU when Alex grabs a kitchen knife and stabs Sherry, then runs out of the loft. She begs for his help, but Jack runs after Alex.
