  • Chappelle was not my favorite character over the last three seasons, but I truly felt sorry for him. The most shocking and emotional episode I've seen so far. Even more so than Tery's death! I've never watched 24 while on the air, thank God for Netflix!

Great episode, although I have to wonder. If you were to swap Chappelle with Kim, Jack would have went the distance to prevent the fate Chappelle suffered! All in all, 6am - 7am had me gripping my seat. From Chase's covert mission to watching Chappelle in his scared state, great acting altogether! 24 is truly a blockbuster movie cut into short clips to be aired on television. I know nothing of the episodes and seasons to come, and choose not to Google them. That being said, my mind is racing on whether Michelle is infected or not and where is Sherry Palmer?
  • Stopped watching 24 after this episode, and you will too.

The worst episode of 24 ever. I give the writers leaneancy, but this time they crossed the line. The plot is completely unbelievable. Would the president ever call for the killing of a high ranking memeber of the department of homeland security? WTF

Jack Bauer acts completly out of charater and the whole show is nonsense. You have a huge threat and one simple demand. Stuff doesn't add up. How did anyone like this episode? I have given up on 24 after seeing this episode, and you will too. Not what I expected. Complete garbage.
  • Best hour of Day 3! And also one of the most emotional episodes!

This season started not very strong, but managed to rose to a higher level and now keeps the audience hooked and under pressure.

And this episode is a perfect proof of it. It´s undoubtely the best episode of the season and also one of the most sad and dramatic installments ever!.

Its plot is really shocking and the tension and the suspense lasts absolutely all the episode until arrive to an impressive and unforgettable ending.

This challenge is one of the most difficult challenges that Jack Bauer had to do.

When the episode comes to its end, you will be impressed.

    Best hour of the season!.

Logic/Details - » What Sell a Episode for 9 or 10? One Scene that is truly Shocking and that the audience never seen before- This is what the writers wanted to do with this episode. Until the End of this episode, the objective is Simple, Kill Ryan Chapelle.

The way the writers managed the 40 minutes was very well done, since there are scenes that make you think that Ryan would Escape. Progress -» It was just about Killing Ryan until the End of this episode.

Emotions/Stimulation/Highlights -» The Last minutes of this episode is touching and can really make you cry if you are a sensible person. There are other good scenes besides that featuring Chapelle and some on the Hotel Plaza.

    Ending - » Too Shocking.

Overall - » This episode is like any other, you have one situation that only will finish in the end of this episode. But this episode could entertain and try to make you feel sorry until the very end, which is very Shocking.
  • Something really shocking

This episode.. oh.. shocking and cruel, I would say. They had that kind of very tense dark tune for the whole hour and the ending - it was just a pearl. The whole scene was just so powerful and the dialoge and the sound and camera work - it just worked all together for the perfect feeling.

And then the things in hotel. Michelle talking with that hotel guard and the bills and those old people taking it and then the others..

And that man who got away.. It is going to be disaster on his part.

Just so so powerful episode. I have no words
  • Officially the most shocking episode of 24 ever.

My god. By the end of the episode, everyone in the room was gobsmacked by what they had just watched. This episode had such a huge effect on me that I even dreamed about it that night... It was the last 5 minutes that did it, and that silent clock combined with the train whistle at the end was so...haunting... I was shaking throughout the whole scene, can you believe that? And for that reason, this episode gets a perfect ten out of ten, something I've only given to two other episodes.

I felt incredibly sorry for Ryan, the way his death was dragged out from the beginning until the end of the episode was just simply superb. They have developed his character so well over the three seasons. God, I just hated him so much!! But in this episode I was so attached to him, it was unbelievable. I truly hoped that there would be something that would save Ryan at the last minute. But no =[[ I'll never forgive Jack for making his death so painful for him. I wish that they'd included the extra scene when Jack was crying in the chopper in the next episode too, it would have shown that he wasn't so bloody heartless.

There were many highlights throughout this episode involving Chappelle:

*Chappelle's reaction to Saunder's wanting him dead.

*Chappelle's reaction to Saunders being 'found'. God, I felt so sorry for him then. He was so happy as well =[

*Chase being a prat to Chappelle >=[ Damn him!!

*When Chappelle said his legs were shaking.

*When Chappelle said he had no friends.

Highlights in the Chandler Plaza Hotel were:

*The touching conversation between Tony and Michelle.

*When the pensioners walked up to get their suicide pills--that was just heartbreaking.

*When the hotel manager got the virus. That was soo sad I actually cried, he helped out so much. I hate Michelle for not letting him talk to his wife!!

Quote of the hour! Jack Bauer: "Sorry we let you down, Ryan. (pauses) God forgive me."
  • The most cold-blooded episode of 24.

    10
    "Perfect"
There is not a single second in this episode where there is an absense of tension and bone-chilling suspense. The suicide pills get to the Chandler Plaza Hotel and it's so sad to see these innocent dying people being forced to suffer a painful death or cut their life short with a single pill. The final scene in the episode will always stick in my mind. It's bad enough that Jack Bauer has to murder his own boss to save America, but it's even worse that you have to watch it happen. The last three seconds with the train whistle in the background are the most chilling seconds in 24 history.
  • The promos wanted you to believe it…

    "Superb"
…but you didn't! You had to see it for yourself, didn't you?

Chalk up another one for the bad guys—a few hours ago, it was the Chandler Plaza Hotel; now, it's the death of everybody's favorite Division weasel.

But once again, the rest of the episode must be taken into account. For the most part, it's very good. The bad part is when Michelle realizes an infected person got out of the hotel. I'd give this subplot higher points if it wasn't such blatant filler. There seems to be some moral message about infidelity going on here, but I don't care about that. It's an unwelcome story arc.

Aside from that, the music during Chase and Baker's break-in at Saunders' apartment (yes, that's right…) got on my nerves after less than ten seconds. That probably sounds petty to you, but I still don't care. It kinda felt like someone was taking a cheese grater to my eardrums before long.

Alright, enough about the cons. The 7:00 AM deadline that Saunders throws at Palmer makes for excellent tension, and the short but effective suicide pill story continues when the infected guests begin taking them.

But the big highlight is, of course, the climactic death. Almost everything else in the episode leads up to this emotional payoff. Ryan Chappelle is the ultimate example of an unlikable character who gets a chance to become likable before dying for the good of the country. The writers have done it before with Yusuf Auda, and believe me, they'll do it again.

    Hourly Highlight:

    The last five minutes.

What would you do if you wre told that you only had one hour to live? The acting done in this episode by the man that played Ryan Chapelle was astounding. The actor played his role on 24 to perfection every single time that he was on camera. He had a good on screen connection with just about everyone on the cast and was one of the best things that CTU could have ever asked for (a tough boss who plays it by the book and calls it like he sees it). The several emotions that he shows throughout the duration of this episode really embody what his character was to the show. Never once on his time on 24 did I see his character smile, but when Jack ran into the holding room to tell Ryan that they had found Saunders - he was overcome with joy, even giving Jack a hug because he was so grateful to be able to keep his life. His character will be missed on this show - both for his intensity and unique character that he portrayed on the show. The writers have really impressed me throughout almost all of the three seasons - killing off series regulars that we have grown attached to. Ryan Chapelle was one of the reasons I watched 24, he will be missed. I know this episode had a lot of other parts to it, but the death of Ryan Chapelle is the only thinkg this hour will ever be remembered for.
  • RIP Ryan Chapelle

This is by far the best episode of 24 from the rather disapointing 3rd Season. It has so many great 24 moments rolled into one episode. From the tearjerking suicide pill speech, the spine chilling image of the "nosebleed" and one of the most shocking conclusions to a 24 episode (and maybe any tv episode) with the death of Ryan Chapelle. Up till this episode I had no real like for Ryan Chapelle but at the end of this episode I'm not afraid to admit that I had tears in my eyes.

Jack hunts down Saunders hiding somewhere in Los Angeles. Chase goes to an apartment where CTU suspects Saunders might be hiding. Michelle learns that one of the guests in the hotel left before the quarantine was implemented. After one crisis is dealt with, another one comes to make the hour complicated, you only see this in 24. 24 does it really good. The writers did another great episode, this episode really is fast paced, the suspense keep on coming at every corner leaving you breathless. This is a really cool episode, the story is really good, and the action is relentless.

So far S3 disappointed me very much. I don't feel the excellent build up like i felt with S2. Most of the episodes start slowly, forunately, though, they get better by the end.

However, this episode, is different. From the first second, I was absolutely thrilled.

Although I think the writers kinda crossed the 'line' here; the last scene was waaaay more brutal than any 24 moments so far.

The episode was action packed, every single second had it's importance.

I won'T deny: I'm a male and I cried after the last scene. It was brilliatnly done, yet, as I mentioned, it crossed the line...

    RIP Ryan Chappelle.
  • .....but i loved ryan chappelle...

I didnt realise how much i loved ryan till i watched him lying lifeless on the ground. Definitely one of the most intense and touching episodes of 24. It broke my heart really. to see ryan die this way. and to see jack having to do it. But i somehow think that Jack's reaction wasn's dramatic enough. Hate the fact that the producers cut off the scene showing jack weeping alone in the chopper. If it were shown.. maybe i would have classified this episode as a real tearjerker. But overall, one of the most impressive episodes yet. Loved it.

One of the most shocking/powerful moments of the season. As Jack is forced to kill Ryan in order to meet the demands of the terrorist and prevent thousands/millions of lives from dieing. Not only was it shocking but the silent clock at the end reinforced the power of the episode.
  • Crossed the line.

I love 24, but every once in a while they cross the line to the point where you don't feel like watching anymore because there's no way to redeem what has already happened. This is one of those episodes.

Having Jack "kill" Chappelle is just TOO MUCH. You can't come back from something like that and it changes my view of Jack to a person that I'm not sure I'll ever be truly on the side of anymore.

Earlier, putting the gun to Chase's head and pulling the trigger, hoping and 'figuring' it was not loaded is one thing - this is something far different.

I'm not going to stop watching, but I still feel this was over the top and unnecessary. Just my two cents.
  • While the episode itself doesn\'t deserve 10, Chapelle does.

Ryan, was, such an... ass. He was so by the book, it was annoying. He didn\'t really like Jack, he was bossy. But... maybe these things made such a great character.

The 2nd death that really shocked me. First one was Mason\'s death. ANd now Ryan.

This episode really got me. I was crying for the last 5 mins , and after episode, I cried another 5. Couldn\'t believe what happened.

I cant blame the writers.. but I am also sure that this was not neccessery.

The music during the episode was excellent, so was the last few seconds. Train horns, counter kicks in , with no sound.. u can only hear the train...

...yes, Ryan. We will miss you.
  • This was the best, most intense episode of 24, and one of the best episodes of any TV series that I've ever seen.

    "Perfect"
One day, I was flipping channels and I saw this particular episode of 24, having never before watched 24. All I can say is that it was the most electrifying television episode that I\'ve ever seen in terms of excitement, suspense, and pure shock. I shared Ryan Chappelle\'s emotions, from absolute horror at the news of the latest demand, to his profound relief at the news that Saunders had been found, to his crushed optimism when Chase found that Saunders was not where they thought he was. I pitied Chappelle when, just before his death, he realized that he had no family and no friends, something that really did enhance my sympathy for him.

The writing was incredible. I thought for sure that Chase and his team would get Saunders during their raid, and I was completely surprised when they didn\'t. Everything else about this episode was perfect, too. I really liked the shot of the helicopter flying off into the blazing sunrise, and the scene with Chase\'s strike team was riveting. The powerful last 5 minutes couldn\'t have been more wrenching. This scene is probably one of the finest that I\'ve ever seen on television. The silent clock at the end of the hour, coupled with the train horn,(just after Jack killed Chappelle) had great effect and conveyed shock and horror. The first time that I saw this, I do believe that my jaw literally dropped. And the music for the entire episode deserved to win an award - it always matched the intensity of the situation and kept my adrenaline flowing. Overall, I would rank this as the best episode of 24 (since seeing this episode, I\'ve become a devoted fan and watched all 5 seasons), and one of the top 5 episodes of any TV show that I\'ve ever seen.

    What an episode!

Even though I wasn't a big fan of Ryan Chapelle I had to feel for as he was going to die at the hands of Jack under the orders of Saunders.

The music is this one made it as Ryan was going to be killed and then the train horn to end the hour was nerving as Jack kills Ryan Chapelle.

Best episode of the 3rd Season!
  • This is officially my favorite episode of 24.

    9.8
    "Superb"
This is officially my favorite episode of 24. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, wondering if they would get to Saunders before the deadline or not, and even if they did get to him, he's already got the virus in different locations so I don't think their plan would have worked. His men could be under orders to release the virus if he does get caught.

I really felt for Chappelle tonight. At first I couldn't stand him because he was a jerk then in the previous episode & this one I ended up liking him & hoping that he wouldn't die. I really felt sorry for him when he said he had no one to call or say goodbye to.

The last 5 minutes of the episode were the best. If only he was able to kill himself & save Jack the guilt he's going to live with for killing him.

When Chase & the agents went in after Saunders, I really thought that they found him, but I should have known when Saunders was too cool when his men were nowhere to be seen on the moniters.

My favorite scene had to be when Michelle was talking to Tony and they said their goodbyes *their way* I felt like crying then & there.
  • Brilliant. Left me in awe.

It is amazing to me how the writers of this show can turn a person like Chappelle from being a complete jerk throughtout the entire series into someone who you would, and do, truly care for in one episode. The fight sequence with Chase and Baker only added to the tension of this episode. I really thought that they would find Saunders and save Ryan but that didn't happen. The last five minutes of this episode are amazing. They rival if not surpass the sequence with Jack and George on the plane in season 2. Chappelle had no one to call or say goodbye to which really makes you feel that much more sorry for him. Probably one of the best lines in the series was when Jack opened the helicopter door for Chappelle - "My legs are shaking." It just felt so surreal. Amazing when a episode can do that.
  • AWESOME!

    "Perfect"
This is one of the greatest episodes of season 3, the whole story with Chapelle is excelent. I knew, from the minute that Saunders tells the President his demand that Chapelle will die in the next hour.

My brother was watching this season and he didn't watch the 2 previous ones, so along that week between the episodes he told me "I wonder how Chapelle is going to pull it off" and I kept telling him "If you've watched the previous 2 seasons you'll know it by now, Jack is going to kill Chapelle"... and that's exactly what happened.

A great performance by Paul Schultze along the episode and of course, by Kiefer Sutherland (he does such a wonderful job in the series that is almost pointless to say it).

Personally, I've enjoyed the best the episode were George Mason dies (I think that's the best hour of 24 ever) but this episode should definitely make the 24 top five episodes.
  • Shock value at its most poignant -- why I feel this episode tops all others.

    10
    "Perfect"
I had an inkling that this would be Ryan Chappelle's final episode when I started watching it, but even in the poignant last 5 minutes I couldn't believe he was actually going to die.

I rate this as my favourite episode of all; I believe this episode is the result of 24's creative team reaching their full maturity, like a fine wine. Many people list S1 11pm-12pm as their favourite because it, too, featured a shocking death. I feel this one tops it, even if Terri Bauer was a more important character than Chappelle, even if her legacy has touched every 24-hour season after her.

A chill runs through me everytime I hear this episode's, "The following takes place between 6 AM and 7 AM." With the 2 minute recap, which ends with Saunder's demand that Chappelle be killed within the hour, the plot is already in motion. The first 5 minutes or so of the episode are punctuated by an amazing but subtle musical score by Sean Callery; it fits so perfectly that it sustains the goosebumps I get from the Sutherland voiceover listing the episode's timeframe.

As it stands, Chappelle is one of the least likely character to be in any danger -- he's always been the man behind the scenes, never the one on the front line, and Paul Schulze delivered his perfomance flawlessly -- "My God! Jack!"

Suddenly a character's true colors become known to us, and the provocative nature of 24 delivers us several questions to mull over -- can we blame Chappelle for trying to run? Can we agree with Palmer's decision to appease the terrorists by sacrificing him? And what did Saunders even hope to accomplish with Chappelle's murder, except maybe proving that he, forgive my choice of words, 'has the President by the balls'.

The last five minutes are amazing, they come with a sort of Brechtian methodology: suck the audience in emotion, then beat them over the head with a brutal reality.

  • ... DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!

    10
    "Perfect"
What an incredibly powerful episode! This is my third-most favorite episode of all, trailing only the finale of S1 and the climactic Episode 15 of S2. Chappelle's death was done absolutely PERFECTLY. It's amazing that this episode got the lowest Nielsen ratings of any episode of 24 to date because it was broadcast on a Sunday because of a Bush press conference.

    Strengths

-Chappelle's reaction to the news that Palmer ordered him dead

    -Chappelle revealing his cigarettes

-Chase confronting Chappelle about supposedly taking Jack downtown for questioning

    -Amazing sunrise

-Best score of Season 3 by Sean Callery

-Best action scene of Season 3 when Chase, Agent Baker, and friends go in after Saunders

-Great twist with Saunders not being there

-Chappelle saying that his legs were shaking (;_;)

-Him saying he had no real friends, just people at work

-That final poignant set of images with Chappelle having a tear roll down his face, being unable to kill himself, Jack saying "God forgive me," shooting Chappelle in the back of the head, and the train whistle to top it off with a silent clock. Absolutely stunning. Best scene of Season 3.

    Weaknesses

-None. Not one damn weakness in the entire episode.

You want to know how strong this episode was? I saw it once when it originally aired, again a few days later, again when I got the S3 DVDs, two other times just to be awed by it, and I'm being moved just by remembering this episode. Many people might not like it because of how cold and brutal it was, but to me....that's life sometimes. This episode shows just how 24 pulls no punches and does not change to fit the conventional wisdom of TV.
