Episode Recap

9:02 A.M.-9:07 A.M.: Jack and his squad are still outside Saunders' now empty building. Jack yells at Saunders one more time to surrender himself, but there's no response. Jack orders Chase to smoke him out. They fire tear gas into the building and Chase and his men burst inside with gas masks. Suddenly, Baker and his men come running around the corner of the building. Jack asks what the hell they are doing. Baker says he got an order from Tony to bring his unit to the front exit. Jack, now furious, calls Tony and demands to know if Tony why he did that. Tony half-heartedly argues that he was just working from the information he had and that someone on his team made a mistake. Jack says it was an unacceptable mistake and that Tony should step down if he can't run CTU. Jack calls Chase, who reports that the building is deserted.

Chloe tells Tony that Saunders got away. She overheard Tony tell Jack someone made a mistake and wants to know more about it. Tony tries to brush her off, but Chloe grabs Adam and asks him what he knows about it. Adam is confused as well and offers to pull up the satellite photos of the area. Tony says he'll take care of it and hurriedly walks away.

Tony goes into a private room and pulls up the satellite photos, then erases them. Just then, Tony gets another call from Saunders, who is casually strolling down a quiet street. Saunders tells Tony that he wants his daughter back and that he's willing to exchange her for Michelle. Tony says it will be tough, but Saunders assures him that he will kill Michelle if Tony doesn't do as he orders. Adam rings through and says Tony has a call from Palmer.

Palmer asks Tony how he managed to lose Saunders. Tony repeats the same weak excuse he gave Jack and Palmer tells him to keep looking. Palmer hangs up and goes into a conference room, joining his brother Wayne, who is watching a news report claiming that Senator Keeler has lost several important endorsements. Wayne says that Keeler has taken a hit because he made disparaging remarks about Palmer after he dropped out of the debate the previous evening. Now that the threat level has been raised, the American public knows that Palmer was serious. Palmer says they don't have time to think about politics and orders them all back to work.

9:08 A.M.-9:11 A.M.: Chase calls Adam who tells him that they are now having problems with the live satellite feed. Jack and Chase leave Baker in charge of the abandoned building and head back to CTU so they can be on hand when Jane talks to Saunders again.

Kim and Jane arrive at CTU. Agent Forrester tells them that Jack and Chase are on their way back, but that they lost Saunders. Jane asks Kim if Saunders knows that they have her in custody and Kim tells her yes. They take her inside and Tony greets them, telling Forrester to take her to a holding room. Forrester says she thought she was supposed to go to a different area, but Tony tells her he has new instructions. He then tells Kim that someone is on the way over to debrief her about her shooting incident in Santa Barbara. Kim tells Tony that she heard the news about Michelle. Tony is startled, but Kim was referring to Michelle's clean bill of health regarding the virus. Tony thanks her and tries to look happy.

At Saunders' new hideout, two thugs drag Michelle into a room and set her in a chair. Her hands are handcuffed and she has tape over her mouth.

9:15 A.M.-9:24 A.M.: Chloe can't understand why she is getting blank satellite images, so she goes over to Adam's station and interrupts him in the middle of an emotional conversation with his infected sister. Chloe keeps bugging Adam until he has to hang up. He follows her back to her screen and she shows him that the satellite images are gone. Adam figures that a glitch in the system occurring at the same time that Saunders escaped is no coincidence. Chloe guesses that Saunders may have access to their systems. Chloe doesn't want to tell Tony yet until they confirm it, so she asks Adam for his help and he shuffles back to his station to begin searching for proof.

Tony goes into the holding room where Jane is waiting. She asks why she's being treated as if she's done something wrong. Tony says its for her own safety, but she doesn't buy it. She knows she's the only leverage they have against her father. Tony admits that she's right, but that they won't harm her. Jane seems to believe Tony, but says she doesn't want to see Jack again because he scares her. Then Tony's phone rings. It's Saunders, who demands to speak to his daughter. Tony refuses, demanding to talk to Michelle first. Saunders tells him that he'll kill Michelle if he doesn't obey. Tony moves away from Jane and quietly threatens to slit Jane's throat if Saunders harms Michelle.

Saunders goes to Michelle, pulls the tape from her mouth and uncuffs her hands. A guard holds a gun on her as Saunders hands her the phone and orders her to tell Tony that she's okay. Michelle speaks to Tony and says she's okay. She tries to say something else, but Saunders snatches the phone away. Then Tony puts the phone on speaker and allows Jane to talk to her father. Jane wants her dad to deny that he's a mass murderer, but he skirts the issue, saying that he'd never do anything without just cause. Jane's face falls as she finally gets it. Tony takes the phone again and says he'll do the trade, but he'll need a while to falsify some clearances. Saunders agrees and gives Tony a contact number before hanging up.

Adam confirms with Chloe that someone in Tony's group deleted the satellite photos, but they can't trace who it was since the person used a no-name login. Adam goes to alert Tony as Chloe gets a call from Sunny Macer, who wants to know why Michelle hasn't arrive yet at NHS. Chloe says she doesn't know anything about it but will check into it. Chloe calls one of the men Michelle was with, but gets no answer.

Adam tells Tony that one of his own people must have deleted the satellite images. Tony gives him permission to lock their system down. Chloe comes in and tells Tony that Michelle seems to be missing in action, but Tony claims that he talked to Michelle and diverted her to another location where she can do her work. Tony then gives Chloe a recording of part of his phone call with Saunders. He tells her that it's scrambled and that he wants her to try to trace the signal without the voice track. He then tells her to do it in Tech One, away from everyone else so no one knows what she's doing.

9:28 A.M.-9:37 A.M.: Senator Keeler is blasting one of his advisors at his campaign headquarters for allowing him to throw accusations at Palmer without knowing all of the facts first. His phone rings and an aide informs him that Sherry Palmer is there to see him.

Jack and Chase arrive back at CTU, where Adam updates Jack on the confusing events that have been happening for the past half-hour. Meanwhile, Tony tells Jane that he's going to move her to Division. Jack calls Tony and asks to speak with him outside. Tony meets Jack, who wants to know what's been going on with the satellite footage. Tony says that he put Chloe on it. Jack says he and Tony should go help her, but Tony says he can't since he's got a 30-minute call with Hammond from Division. Jack wants to alert Division to the possibility that they may be compromised, but Tony says he'll do it. Jack walks away and then glances back at Tony suspiciously. Jack goes to Adam and asks if Tony has a 30-minute status call with Hammond on the books. Adam says he doesn't have a record of it.

At Keeler's headquarters, Sherry chides him for losing his endorsements and tells him that his campaign is imploding because of the mistakes he's made. Keeler says he thinks he can still win and Sherry says she can guarantee it. Keeler is interested and Sherry tells him that she'll deny what she's about to admit if he ever repeats it. She tells him that President Palmer is an accessory to murder. She goes on to explain her role in Alan Milliken's death and how Palmer lied to give her an alibi. She says she has Milliken's bottle of pills with her fingerprints on it that prove she was there, making a liar out of Palmer. Keeler asks her what she expects to get out of telling him. She says she wants a mid-level position in his administration when he wins in November. Keeler is skeptical, but Sherry says they both know it would be a little more than that.

9:41 A.M.-9:48 A.M.: Wayne tells Palmer that one of his sources over at Keeler's campaign just told him that Sherry paid Keeler a visit. Wayne wants to investigate it, but Palmer tells him they can't worry about it right now.

One of Saunders' henchmen informs him that CTU is trying to trace them through his last phone call with Tony. Saunders goes to Michelle and asks her how they are tracing the call. She refuses to talk, knowing Saunders won't kill her while CTU has his daughter. Saunders calls Tony and tells him that he's using a knife to draw blood from Michelle's face. He threatens to disfigure her if Tony doesn't put a stop to whoever is tracing Saunders.

Tony franticly calls Chloe and tells her to stop tracing the signal. Jack walks up to Tony as he hangs up and asks what he's doing. Tony starts to give him a line, but Jack interrupts him. "Why are you lying to me," he asks. Jack says that he just got off the phone with Hammond, the guy whom Tony never had a status call with. Tony pretends to fess up, admitting that someone on his crew screwed up and it's his responsibility to find out who. Jack doesn't buy it and relieves Tony of his command. Tony begs Jack to let him keep working until the crisis is over, but Jack refuses.

Tony is about to call Saunders when Adam tells him that he's narrowed down a list of mole suspects for him, but Tony tells him to just send it to Hammond. Tony finds a private corridor and calls Saunders, explaining that he's been relieved of his command. Saunders tells him that if he doesn't get Jane out of there, Michelle dies.

9:52 A.M.-10:00 A.M.: Jack tells Kim that he thinks that CTU has been compromised and that he wants her help. He tells her to go to Field Ops and track everything that happens at CTU until further notice. Jack then goes on to the floor and glances up to see Tony in his office.

Tony looks at a live feed of Jane in her holding room when Chloe calls with the news that she has almost decrypted the voice track from Saunders' phone call. Tony hangs up and happens to glance through the glass wall of his office. He sees Jack pick up another phone. Tony monitors the call and hears Jack ask Adam to send Chloe to him. Tony quickly calls Adam and tells him that he's on the line with Chloe, who needs a password. Adam gives it to Tony and says that Jack needs to see Chloe right away. Tony says he'll pass on the request. He then pulls up an image of Chloe working in Tech one. Chloe has just decrypted the voice track of Saunders' phone call. Chloe hears Saunders threaten to kill Michelle if Tony doesn't follow instructions. Chloe puts two and two together, but not before Tony deactivates the phone in Tech One and locks the automatic door, trapping Chloe inside. Tony leaves his office, slipping on his jacket.

Jack gets everyone's attention and announces that he's taking charge of CTU. While everyone is distracted, Tony goes to Jane's holding room and stuns her guard with a taser gun, then leads her out of a rear exit. Kim notifies Jack that Chloe hasn't updated her logs in over 15 minutes, which sends up a red flag for Jack and Chase. Tony leads Jane through a deserted hallway and tells her that they are going to Division.

Jack and Chase try to pull up a video feed from Tec One, but the channel is blocked. They assume that Chloe must be the mole and hurry to Tech One as Kim overrides the access codes. Jack and Chase storm into find Chloe bent over a keyboard. Jack pulls his gun and orders her away from the computer. Chloe says that Tony locked her in and that Saunders has Michelle and is using her to get Jane back. Jack radios security to locate Tony, but they tell Jack that Tony is gone. Tony's car pulls into traffic as security radios Jack that Jane is gone as well.

Tony calls Saunders and says that he has Jane. Saunders asks how long it will take for CTU to track them by satellite. Tony says 30 minutes. Saunders tells Tony to wait at a certain intersection and instructions will come in 20 minutes. Tony agrees and hangs up.
