Episode Recap

After searching Sabir's computer, Chloe finds e-mails tracing Sabir to a Chinese national named Lee Jong. CTU tracks Jong and discovers that he is in the Chinese consulate. President Palmer gets on the phone with the consul to try and extradite Jong. The consul said that he would expect a favorable answer within two to three hours. Palmer was forced to authorize a raid on the Chinese consulate, telling Jack, "No one connected to the government can admit to knowing anything about this." Jack goes in alone wearing a mask and armed with a tranquillizer gun. Tony is running satellite coverage at CTU without anyone else knowing. Jack manages to grab Jong, but the Chinese discover him and start shooting. Jack's two team members go in to help Jack. While they are being shot at, the consul runs in the way and is killed by friendly fire. Jack gets Jong out, but one of his team members is unmasked momentarily. On their way out, Jong is shot in the back. Back at CTU, Audrey tells Paul that she is going to go with him to the special hospital for his recovery. Suddenly, Paul starts gasping and he is taken back into surgery. The Chinese contact President Palmer, obviously suspicious. However, the Chinese currently have no proof, just a lot of circumstantial evidence. In the van, Jong starts to gasp. Jack guesses that he has massive internal bleeding. When they get back to CTU, Jong is taken into surgery immediately. However, the operation on Paul is already underway. Jack pulls a gun on the surgeon and tells him to start working on Jong immediately. Audrey yells at Jack and he tells her, "I have my orders, I'm doing my job!" Paul starts to flatline and Jack and Curtis start to use the defibrillator. Curtis injects him with epinephrine but Paul dies. Audrey breaks down and attacks Jack who is standing there stunned. She is taken out of the room screaming, "You son of a bitch, you killed him! He saved your life!" Jack asks if Jong is going to make it and the surgeon says, "I'm doing my best."
