This chaotic morning isn't cooling down. Jack and Assad are hot on the trail of a henchman who may or may not (NOT) lead them to Fayed, while Fayed himself is busy initiating the next phase of his terror plot. Yes, his bombings have ended; here comes his demand for the release of 110 political prisoners, which Wayne all too graciously goes along with. We've seen both of these aspects before—Jack trailing a henchman and the President caving in to a terrorist demand—but hey, I'm not here to judge seasonal repetition.
The Wallace Family's friendly neighbor Ahmed whips out a gun and orders Ray to do his stuff for him, courtesy of a convenient incapacitation in the last episode. Needless to say, this situation gets pretty ridiculous. Needless because…well, what show are YOU watching?!
Anyway, here's what's known by hour's end: the whole prisoner release was a diversion for the escape of only one of said prisoners, Fayed's endgame is a nuclear something-or-other, Curtis is peculiarly pissy about working with Assad, Lennox is still one shifty Chief of Staff, Nadia's still hot as hell, Tony Almeida's still dead as far as we know, it's apparently 9:00 AM, and White Castle is losing some appeal. All in all, not bad, but it seems to serve primarily as fanfare for what's next to come. Episode Three and counting…

    Hourly Highlight:
Watch out for Road Rage Jack.

Presentation Phase - » (7/10). Following the consequences from the last episode.

Complication Phase - » (6/10). An pursuit, and another demand made by Fayed, but nothing really complicated for now.

Climax Phase - » (6/10). Failing to catch the fayed man.

Suspense/Tension - » (6/10). The tension was normal, nothing that I can say that was good, maybe when they tried to stop Fayed´s man.

Drama - » (5/10). Unfortunately, nothing really good or fair.

Action - » (6/10). Little action near the end.

Ending - » (7/10). Good ending, right now, things are in nuclear level.

    Surprises/Shocks/Twists - » (6/10). Don´t expect any good surprises.

Time and Scene Management - » (6/10). The only relevant material here was Fayed demand, which will be very important to the next episode, the rest was filler. For example, the package was incomplete, convenient, Sandra Palmer plot serves for who? Even the demand situation was played to be delayed until near the end.

Plot Details/Holes- » (7/10). I don´t buy the fact that Fayed also have mole´s in the right place, but ok, is for the sake of the plot.

What I liked -» Hard to say.

What I Didn´t Liked -» OMG, actually, almost all scenes were filler, pursing a terrorist that leads to nowhere, Sandra Palmer and deliver the package that was incomplete.

When previous two episodes did not had the sparkle for me, then this one did - and very well.

First the whole Jack trusting Assad thing and Curtis having problem with it. The question he raise was right one - did the acts at the moment undo the past?

And the whole following the bad guy and Assad playing there.. it was clever and I liked it.. and the whole process they get to the bottom of this (at least for the moment).. a nuke.. maybe they have done this again but the danger is high.. and maybe that makes this serie show enjoyable - you know those char cannot do wrong or the price will be too high..

    The ending was great.
  • Jack and Assad come up with a scheme to track Fayed's agent and get him to reveal Fayed's location. Wayne's sister continues to give authorities trouble concerning their investigation. Ahmed takes the Wallaces hostage and forces Ray to do a job for him.

After a somewhat slow start the sixth season of "24" managed to get the wheels spinning by this episode. Here the elements that make "24" the great show it is began to emerge. Alexander Sedig is quite good as Assad and works well with Jack in their attempts to track Fayed. Kal Penn takes a long step away from a certain guy named Kumar and gives a good performance as Ahmed. The usual twists and turns are present here as they have been in this series from the beginning, but they still work well and add to this episode's enjoyment.

Jack, I have just this minute finished watching the first 4 episodes of the new series, and without giving anything away, I am happy to report that this series looks to be just as exciting as its 5 predecessors. Excellent! Not to be missed.

I admit that half way through the first episode I was more than a little upset, but by the end of the episode I was more than happy with where the story looked to be going.

And, with all the previous series I was completely wrong about where the story was going.

However, for those of you out there that have not seen some or all of the previous series, I strongly recommend you go back and watch all of them in order. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Like millions of others out there, I know that Jack Bauer is probably the

I found this episode very enjoyable...It continues from where the last episode left off...Jack and Assad follow one of Fayed's men... The fact that this is they're only lead toward discovering Fayed's whereabouts makes Jack call CTU and let them in on everything in order to do a better surveillance...Unfortunately for them, the terrorist manages to take his only life before being captured...One fact troubled me and that was that the deposit where the terrorist blew himself up was filled with a large quantity of C4 and the blew-up didn't had a great intensity...On the other side, Wayne's sister gets released by the FBI...Fayed calls the president and asks him to release 110 terrorist and threatens him with terrible consequences if he fails to do so...Ahmed forces Ray to deliver a package by threatening to kill his family...Desperation makes Ray do a terrible thing...From the hard-drive that CTU managed to recover from the destroyed deposit, they discover Fayed's real plan-to build a nuclear bomb and detonate it...Among the men that were released, there is one that is useful towards the completion of Fayde's plans, and this is the reason behind all the bombings...I liked this episode because, it is revealing.

Jack comes up with a plan to follow one of Fayed's agents into leading them to a place where Fayed may be hiding. Ahmed forces Ray to deliver a package for him while holding his family hostage. Fayed delivers his demands to the White House.

Jack begins to notice Manning's hostility towards Assad. He asks Chloe to look into Manning's personal history with Assad. This episode plays out well, Jack and Assad are partners at this point. It's a really interesting episode, it leads into something that we're not really expecting. The writers really made a good episode, this one really delivers.

The theme of this episode is everybody cracking under the pressure. The United States government is becoming increasingly fascist, Ray is going insane with the pressure of his family being held hostage, Curtis wants to play cowboy, and some Americans are becoming mercenaries at the wrong time. The Good: The ending. What a disturbing, but compelling twist. The Bad: This ongoing snit between Milo and Morris (or whatever the bald guys name is). I recently heaped praise on this show for it's constant edge of your seat power. These pathetic squabbles with no real base only detracts from an otherwise winning formula.

Plot: Jack and Assad build on their budding romance while following up on a lead. Curtis gets jealous and unable to share in the glory of living in Jack’s shadow; he takes a bullet to the throat. A nuke goes off in LA. That last part was a tad nonchalant.

This season is turning out amazing! I’m like, holy **** since when do series get more interesting and original with age? I have been disappointed many times by aging dramas; Lost, I’m looking long and hard in your direction. That’s what she said. Sorry, couldn’t resist. I know this is the second time a Nuke has gone off in the US (season 2 but in the desert) but tell me you weren’t thrilled when that happened. Jack had been beaten down by the Chinese. I admit I had my doubts if he could live up to the high standards of last seasons body count of roughly fifty men killed in a single day. However, all those doubts were washed aside in a mushroom cloud of glory as Jack Bauer will now arise from the ashes, born anew from the nuclear flame and reclaim his title as judge, jury and executioner.

Back at the hostage situation, Ahmed is getting weak from the loss of blood, plus as we all know, his hatred for freedom will ultimately be his undoing. Unable to make the delivery, he sends the father out, who actually kills a man in order to complete his mission. The previously meek father, emboldened by smashing a man’s head in over a computer chip, bargains Ahmed into letting his wife go. Apparently, he loves his son more than his wife. Idiot, you can always make more kids with your wife. What the hell are you going to do with that goober of a son you got? Ahmed specifically told the mom before she left not to call the cops, but being a crazy ass **** she immediately does just that. A swat team quickly arrives and kills Ahmed. I’ll smoke a fatty for you Kumar, keep getting work! At least this time you had some dialogged as opposed to your brief, but powerful role in Superman Returns.

Assad and Jack continue their enjoyable, odd ball relationship. After some amusing antics involving a staged car accident, the two manage to track one of Fayd’s men to an abandoned warehouse. Why do we constantly leave this decrypted factories and storefronts unguarded? Our national security is in the hands of loyalist hobos that keep these stereotypical terrorist havens secure. A nuclear specialist that managed to escape in the previous episode during the prisoner release is held up here. The terrorists have in their passion several suitcase nukes that they acquired from the always vigilant Soviets. Curtis has some serious beef with Assad. Aside from his obvious jealous over being replaced as Jack’s ethnic sidekick, Curtis goes out of his way to hint that he will kill Assad. To be fair, Assad’s men beheaded most of Curtis’s army unit in the Gulf war. When it becomes clear that Assad is not going to be punished, and in fact has received a full pardon from President Palmer for his cooperation, Curtis decides to try to kill him. Which immediately results in Jack taking him down. Chloe, you are pretty much the only original cast member left so watch your back. There can be only one!

Please note that while clearly stricken with grief and anguish over the slaying of Curtis, Jack does not actually cry. Jack never cries, even when his wife was murdered, but if he were cable of producing tears, they would be acid or poison based so as to kill the person that cause him pain.

Parting Thought: We need a token!
  • Aha! The REAL threat is nuclear!

    8.8
    "Great"
Reginia King continues her diva civil liberties campaign, which irritates President Palmer. He should just let her stay contained until this is all over. After all, he is the president and he can have her let go.

So now we now that Fayed's REAL attack on America will be nuclear. CTU is trying to stop the suspect who can make the attack happen. But he escapes by hiding in a bus bathroom and then just runs off? Sometimes I think they try to make finding the bad guy too hard and then they use a tactic that is so easy to get away.

Overall, good informative episode leading to the next hour.
  • A good, solid transitional episode

    7.0
    "Good"
(This review covers the first hour of the Monday night season premiere episodes; the second hour will be covered in a subsequent review.)

The episode begins with the standard “24” tactic: identify an action to be completed within a short-term deadline and let Jack do everything possible to prevent that from happening. And as usual, the best iterations of that familiar plot come with unusual and interesting interactions. In this case, Jack and Assad, men who should be enemies, work together in relatively clever and effective fashion.

Once Curtis is in the mix, the main plot improves. Curtis has been a character in need of further definition, and this episode provides some of that. The conversation between Jack and Curtis reveals much about both men. Curtis seems to have the kind of certainty that Jack once had, and Jack seems uncomfortable facing that truth. Jack may be wondering, in that moment, where his own certainty has gone.

Ahmed’s decision to use his friend as a hostage, forcing Ray to betray his own country to save his family, adds an interesting aspect to the episode. Though the audience never had the chance to see Scott and Ahmed in happier times, it’s still riveting to see them face each other down. It makes what is effectively a short delaying action for the writers a lot more tense and effective. There’s no question that Ahmed will follow through on his threat, which in turn makes it believable that Ray would be forced into murderous action to save his family.

Though some may feel that Wayne Palmer is demonstrating weakness, he is taking the same kind of action that David had to make on more than one occasion. If Wayne is less confident, it’s likely the combination of his lack of political experience and the besieged history of his short presidency. It should also be noted that his character, if he should survive, will probably become more confident over the course of the season. If so, his apparent weakness would be designed to help provide contrast to his strength in the future.

It certainly doesn’t help that his sister seems hell-bent on distracting him at the worst possible moment. Her own tactics leave much to be desired, since they make a difficult situation a lot worse. Walid in particular ends up as a detainee, despite his previous attempts at cooperation, and Sandra bears much of the blame for that. It would be quite a twist, however, if Walid’s experience led him towards a more negative opinion of the United States.

Once again, the weak point is the ridiculous relationship antics between Chloe and Morris. Anyone with Morris’ petulant attitude should have been fired long before this point in the story, if he had been problematic during the terror response over the past few months. Then again, CTU is hardly known for dealing with personnel issues at the right time!

Despite being part of the overall introductory premiere, this has the feel of a transitional episode. Characters and plot threads are moving into position over the course of the hour, and given Fayed’s deadline, it’s clear that nothing particularly earth-shattering will happen before the end. The point is to reveal Fayed’s possession of a nuclear weapon and his ability, quite soon, to detonate it. To that end, the episode accomplishes its task.

Jack is working with a former terrorist, Assad. A person that has a past with Curtis but Jack doesn't know about it at the moment. Curtis is acting strange and angry towards Assad. Jack is in the middle of everything with his feelings. He doesn't know how to feel about his duties but he is still carrying out the mission to find Fayed. Ahmed is severely injured but he's found a way to deliver the trigger mechanism for a nuclear device to Fayed's men. An inside job at a prison has allowed the person that can assemble the nuclear device to escape. Things are not looking good in L.A.

Jack bauer continues to impress me every episode i watch. the third episode kept the pace going from the first two, it definately did not let down at all. Jack and the ex terrorist i forget his name, continue to track down another terrorist, with help from curtis (who has some sort of vendetta agaist the ex terroist, which we will find out about in the 4th episode). Thy eventually track him down to a shorage warehouse and end up in a gun fight which results in a sucide C4 explosion, awesome to say the least. Another highlight of the episode for me was the Ahmed taking his friends hostage and having the dad do his work since he couldnt. This was an exciting episode, and if i were to review it all I would be here for awhile since it was so action packed
  • The season gets moving again.

A little more action and tension. The President caves to every terrorist demand, even President Sleazeball didn\'t do that. Curtis is lecturing Jack on how you shouldn\'t cooperate with terrorists and enemies. Apparently, Curtis didn\'t watch the first 5 seasons. Tension increases as this episode progresses. The key conflicts start to flesh out. Curtis and Assad. Milo and Morris. Lennox vs all freedoms in America. The ending is what I expect 24 episode to end like. An apparently loyal person betrays everyone completely, not a duping, a betrayal. A key person escapes that will affect the course of episodes to come, and the only active lead is gone. A definite improvement from the second episode.
  • So as it goes on President palmer is still on the way.

So much for the Americans policy of never talking a deal with a group of terrorists. Running out of options, Palmer almost has no choice in this episode but to give in to the terorists demands. This episode was okay, but the first two episodes outshined this one. This episode was slow for the first 40 minutes, with Jack in pursuit of one of the men involved with the train bombing for most of it. The terrorist > PResident conversations were rather boring. Ahmeds storyline is random right now because we have absolutly no idea what is going on what that for the first 40 minutes. The last 20 minutes were good. We found out what Ahmed was sent to pick up and there was a hidden twist at the end of the episode that no one saw coming. Good episode, but not one of the series best
  • The American government has abandoned their stance against negotiating with terrorists on 24. Turns out it makes for a much more exciting tale when you get to deal directly with the enemy.

    8.8
    "Great"
It’s just another thing to look forward to in the climatic adventure. Tonight had face to face cooperation between the heel and hero. Not only is it a scramble for CTU to meet the challenges demanded by our expectations (meaning creating a thrilling battle between the better than good and the worse than evil) But it’s equally difficult for CTU to undo all the messes they have had a part in creating.

Anyways Jack and Assad are able to deceive one of the terrorist to literally taking him to what they think is the location of all the other bad guys. The car accident con was a very well thought out and skillfully orchestrated little plan that even came off even a little comical and thus made it more entertaining. Unfortunately the result didn’t get them very far as they just end up in a gun battle with the sole terrorist at his cache of weapons in a storage facility. But they are still hot on Fayed’s trail.

It was builder episode tonight. A real lead up to the final installment of FOX’s four hours of 24 special. I’m happy that the Ahmed storyline is moving quickly. I was worried that it would take half the day to figure out he was actually a terrorist. It’s another example of how quickly episodes of 24 seem to flyby. It’s also a good reason why there are so many guest stars in each episode.

So why do we enjoy these action pieces like 24? In my case the graphic storyline has always been the shiny hook that grabbed my attention but it’s the cinematography that keeps me entertained to the point that I will just eat up anything dished out by our terrorist ass-kicking fantasy writers. Or is it the terrorist kicking ass fantasy writers? Either way if the action isn’t enough I can enjoy the added bonus of seeing some of the not-so known (but well known to some) actors playing minor roles in 24. Like Eric Balfour, Kal Penn and a very funny Canadian comedian, Shaun Majumder. I hope there will be some more familiar faces in the shows to come.

  • Pieces start moving and some of the threats that will be around through much of the season appear through this episode. Sets the pace for Ep 4 which is the best of this Season Premiere Set.

    9.3
    "Superb"
This episode sets the tone for things that will unfold on this season, not as much as episode 4, but this one will clarify some situations already on the table. Feels like a midseason episode, because it looks like the season is well under way and it's only the third episode. It's the softer half of the second night of Season Premiering 24, because Ep. 4 really takes you for a ride. This one sets the pieces on their place and then lights up a match on a big bomb about to explode on Ep. 4. The drama is as intense as 24 can always get.
  • Transitional episode, however, it\'s still damn impressive.

Assad is hot in the handler\'s lead, but when they get out of the city, Jack needs to think of an idea to follow him undetectable. That\'s how the handler eventually ends up in Assad\'s car.

In this episode Assad is willing to work not only with Jack but with CTU.

This also means Jack is back at CTU to control the operation to take Fayed down.

Meanwhile Ahmed captures the whole family, and forces to father to bring a package to a man who will give something to him in exchange, and, he needs to deliver THAT something he got to Fayed.

That something is a nuclear device which is able to reprogramme a mini-nuclear bomb.

Overally, enjoyable episode, with not much going on, but the suspense was very strong.
