I found this amazing screensaver of 24.

It hooks up to the clock on your computer. When it fades it, it shows:

"The following takes place between X:00 and Z:00" With Jack Bauer's voice over it. (Time's according to the computer clock - this voice over comes back ever hourly change)

It then switches to the digital clock, and ticks away until the next hour when Jack's voice over comes back.

In between each hour, there is the theme music playing, however there is a button to the left of the screen where you can turn off the music (Jack's voice is still heard every hour).

    This is an amazing screensaver.

    It's at:
    http://www.sparky-s.ie/stuff/24.exe

    Or the one without sound:

Let me know what you all think of it!

Where is the button to the left of the screen?

Does the one with no sound have Jack's voice on it?

Great find. Kiefer's voice helps an otherwise dull screensaver.

Directly to the horizontal left of the digital clock. Bring the mouse all the way to the left and then bring it about 1 inch back in; a CTU symbol should subsequently appear. If you click it but the whole screensaver goes away, go to the screensaver settings and change how the screensaver fades off.

The one with no sound does have Kiefer's voice over on the fade in (and at ever hour)

    Glad you all like it!

There are! In the last 4 seconds of every hour, the beeping sounds come in, then it fades into:

    "The following takes place between..."

Oh! This screen saver needs an option to mute music right in the beginning. I don't mean clicking on that icon either. Also, the clock is static in the center. It needs to move around. It would be cool if it had split screen effects. I can't find a way to contact the author.

Are you serious?! The screensaver was meant to replicate the clock that we always see in the show.

What the heck would you use in the split screens? Copyrighted footage from the show -- which would make the screensaver a memory hog? Totally cheese, too, if not done properly.

And why the heck would you want to move the clock around?!

Next thing we know, you're going to customize the clock?! Change the colors? Use your voice, not Sutherland's?!

The guy who made this? Totally awesome tribute! I don't think anything needs to be changed at all!

Hey guys. A friend of mine linked me to this thread so I thought I'd register and answer some questions.

    1. Version 1.1 is out. This stores the theme-song mute setting in an external variable. So if you turn the song off, it'll stay off even if the screensaver goes off and on. In ver 1.0, the song would always play when the screensaver kicks in and you'd have to click it off every time. This new change works for most computers, but not all for some reason that I can't figure out yet. For now, if you don't want the theme, just install the silent version. Here is the link to v1.1

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BSB6804B

    2. Yes, as a screensaver, the clock does not do much to "save" anything. It's more of something for entertainment, made to look exactly like how it does on the show, and not something to prevent burn-in. I've tested a version that had the clock bounce around the screen but it looked pretty retarded IMO. So I just have my monitor power off 20 mins after the screensaver kicks in.

    3. I've had requests to do the split-screen sequences. I may do that sooner or later. I just don't have the time right now.

Well, hope you guys enjoy the screensaver. If/when I release a new version, I'll be sure to post it on this forum.

Just had an idea about solving the burn-in prob : how about using the very opening of the show (where the number "24" appears) on the clock itself -- say every 5-10 minutes, the clock would fade out (or in) and "explode" ? Then fade back in/out?

Just an idea -- let us know what you think!

I know I am really picky, but your 1 vs. non-1 digits have spacing problems. Read this first: http://aqfl.net/?q=node/view/3637 ... I noticed someone else's screen saver and it didn't have this, but without the cool audio sayings "takes place between blah blah..."

Another idea to improve this screen saver for the split screen effects. Show various pieces of the current desktop.

Good idea, but way beyond my knowledge of Flash. I don't even know if it's possible with how my clock is set up currently. So it'll probably never happen. Sorry... BUT there's a new version out, v2.0. I got rid of the theme and added in the opening sequence from the show. Here is a link:

I actually worked on that when I was first started this project. I noticed that the 1's in the show's clock were not consistent, i.e the 1's in 10:31:34 had different spacings. The font I found was closer to what it should look like on a real lcd clock. I decided to go with more realism at first, but soon saw that when the clock showed a lot of 1's, i.e 11:11:11, the spacing looked awful. So I then modified the font so that the 1 would look good no matter what position of the clock it sits in. In that link you posted, you'll see that they talk about the show never showing certain clock sequences where 1 turns to 2, or 0 to 1, to hide their two versions of 1. Since I can't hide those like the show does, a modified font was needed.

Split screen sequences are the next add-on to this project and will follow the events during a certain season of 24. It would probably go something like this:

24 Intro > "Previously on 24" > scenes from last hour (or if in
the 1st hour of the season, scenes from last season) > "The
    following..." > clock > split-screen at 15mins showing scenes from 1st 15 mins > clock >
    split at 30 > clock > split at 45 > clock > ticking clock
    to 60
