everyone know kiefer sutherland has signed on to play jack bauer for another 2 season after day 6. but does anyone know if kiefer will sign another contract after season 8 to do season 9?

I hope so as 24 is the best show on tv.

Also i am enjoying season 6 on sky one.

i'm telling it will be any day now, let me see theres 3 more weeks left until this season concludes, i think it already has but hasnt been made public yet. And yes to the OP i believe kiefer once said he will continue to make the show until the fans were sick to death of it, and trust me if fox didnt pick the show up there are plenty of other networks out there thirsty for 24, dying to get there hands on this highly critical acclaimed show.

That's incorrect. Kiefer is available to FOX to play Jack, but FOX only renews the shows year to year. Everyone seems to misinterpret Kiefer's contract.

Season 7 is a definate go. That is why season 6 ending sets up season 7. Season 8? depends on how season 7 goes. Personally, as much as I love 24, I don't think that an 8th season is believeale, unless Jack is no-longer in it, which would kill the show. If they wanted, they could completely destroy all characters/ties etc after season 7, and make a complete new setting, CTU:NY or something... Like CSI:NY, but just still the same series. Rebot the series, similar to the way that James Bond was rebooted with Casino Royale, just without the main protagonist.

BUT, S9 is forever away..... so is ten.

Also, just because I made a Casino Royale reference, I have to say that I loved it.

One season setting up another doesn't necessarily mean it'll come back.  If this season plummets again and the ratings it rock bottom and the show is cancelled (very highly unlikely) then it won't matter if there was a cliffhanger or not, the show is gone.

24 has many flaws, but it will always be the best show on tv, no matter how over the top or unrealistic it gets it will never boring. It has the best soundtrack, best visual effects etc. And decent scripts even though they have flaws they are still amazing.
How can people watch programs like "Lost" and not feel like killing themselves?
Seriously 24 is the only truly great tv show.

I love 24, but it definitely is not the only great TV show out there today. I never thought I'd see a day where a show would outdo 24 but this year there is one and its Heroes. With Heroes I feel just like I did was the first few seasons of 24, fresh new and great ideas. I love 24 and I will never quit watching it, but I honestly look forward to Heroes now more than 24.

And there are plenty of other great TV shows just as good as 24, Lost, The Shield, and Smallville.

After season 4 i thought the series had ended. When season 5 was confirmed i learned to take it one season at a time. It seems very likely there will be a season 7. As for season 8 we'll have to wait and see.

I think at this point I'd rather see them go out on top after season 8 and then do a couple of feature films.

I feel like the show is running out of steam. Season 6 was awful and although season 7 was much better, I'd still rank it lower than seasons 1-5. I think that season 8 should probably be the last one.

Also, on the topic of feature films. I think that 24 should finish its run on television. By this time, I'm guessing that 24 isn't picking up a lot of new viewers each season (although I think it did during season 5, oddly). A feature film would have to be marketed to a much wider audience than the core viewers of the show. Because of that, the film could be a lot different than the show itself. For some reason I would feel bad if I had invested 8 years of my viewership into a series only to see it end on the big screen (especially if Jack dies or something like that). Maybe that's just me, but anyway...

I think Season 8 should definitely be the last season. I agree that the show is running out of steam. Bringing back Tony proved that to me. I mean if the writers couldn't think of anything better than to bring back an old character than that means they must be running out of ideas. In my opinion having feature films would ruin the show's prestige. Just find a way to have a good finale to the show by either having Jack die in some fitting way or walking away into the sunset.

OMG I'm so devo'd that this is the end of 24, I've followed every episode with baited breath since it's initial airing & always knew 'all good things come to an end'.

However if FOX were to ever take on the request of an audience to keep a series alive I'd always' hoped it would be this one. It's completely brilliant.

For a brief moment I was thinking "I wish this was like James Bond & we could expect a season every year for another 8 or 9/forever lol".

Brilliant effort to all of those who made it, I'm gutted that its come to an end.... Bravo
