24 is my favorite show of the last 10-years, and despite "bending the rules" it was always for a good cause, and Jack Bauer ended up as the "good guy"

Although I enjoyed the final season as well as the others, I was really disappointed in Jack being turned into a "bad guy". "The cause" didn't seem strong enough to almost kill ex-presidents, world leaders, secret service agents doing their job etc. It reversed a lot of the "hero image" that the first 7 seasons built up. It just seems like there were a number of other plot options that would have reached the same result. Jack could have still been running from people inside and outside of the country if the new movie becomes a reality.

I understand what you're saying, but he didn't kill any ex-presidents, world leaders, or secret service agents. The fact of the matter is that he only actually killed bad guys involved in the conspiracy. He was really no different than any of the previous seasons (especially season 5), he was just a little more intense about it.

If you watch some of the bonus material on the DVD, you'll note that with the secret service agents, he shot specifically to wound. He definitely did not kill any of them.

He did slaughter a room full of Russian diplomats and their security. But as stated above, they were involved in the conspiracy to kill another diplomat and a key component of the treaty. Also, he was going after the one who ordered the hit on Renee. This wasn't about maintaining the integrity of former Presidents. To Jack, that was already gone. I think it spoke to all the B.S. he had to put up with the entire time he was serving the country. He lost his wife, almost lost his daughter on multiple occasions, lost his job, was exiled, lost his best ally (who he only met once), his best friend, his freedom, his lover, everything he fought for in Africa, all his mentors in one way or another, and he failed at one of the most important missions he'd ever been on (protecting Hassan). All because of people like Charles Logan and President Suvarov. If he's ready to say "screw it" and go down in flames, taken the object of his hate with him, I can understand. Now, when push came to shove, he couldn't do it.

I think Bauer's actions in season 8 were a result of seven years of seeing friends and family killed and people in power make decisions for their own personal gain. After losing so much I think he had finally just had enough and who can blame him?

fyi, the witness was a child rapist, he deserved it...jack only gives it to people who deserve it...if you're not a villain, Jack tries his best to keep you alive, although don't expect any guarantees, if your death is necessary

Jack shot to wound, not to kill.

He was after the men in charge. Logan, Suvarov, etc. but he had no problems with American agents.

The reason why during season 8 Jack was considered to have become a bad guy was because none of the killings done by him were in defense of anyone else. Him gutting the guy who ate the sim card from the cell phone did not prevent a terrorist attack. He was not preventing anyone from getting killed like in previous seasons; he soley did it out of his own selfish reason: revenge. All of the things that happened to him over the years finally added up and caused him in season 8 to finally be blinded from seeing the line between good and bad. They had played with it for so long but now it was finally clear that he had went too far. He did not have a good enough reason to kill these people and as a result he clearly became a murderer and this was not excusable. This was the clear intent of the producers; they wanted to take him down this road and I think it was a great idea. It broke new ground for the character and was a great way to build up to the end of the show.
