In this episode we find out that Todd had one of his nipples bitten off.
Joe's academic fraternity looks like it has the letters "UXV", though 'U' and 'V' aren't Greek letters. However, if the paddle were printed upside-down, the letters would spell Lambda Chi Omega - which is a real organization, although it's a sorority and not a fraternity.
Todd is shown being lowered into the pit with black hair but when he gets out he has blond hair possibly from eating bird seed.
In one scene, the blonde fraternity guy tells Sanford to stop hammering. If you look closely at the nail next to where Sanford puts the hammer down, the nail straightens itself, then makes itself crooked again.
Swanson: Homeslice. It's a cool street name, like Poop Dawg or P. Diddle or Gary.
Swanson: Wow, that's like the coolest name ever. Well, except for Coolie McCool, The Emperor Of Cooltown.
Del: You mean girls go to the bathroom?
Swanson: They pee out of their butts!
Del: But that's where babies come out!
The fake name of the fraternity they join is Tri Delta Burke. Delta Burke is an actress.
When Sanford is going through the Delta Burke Pledge book AKA a phone book he starts listing off names. The first one he says is Callaghan, which is also the last name for Steve Callaghan who is the Co-Producer and a writer for 3 South.
Todd being in the pit is a reference to the movie The Silence of the Lambs.
