This is the story of Andres Escobar, who was the captain of the Colombian national soccer team for the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Colombia had the best team on earth. Andres accidentally scored an own goal, sending them home. Days later, he was murdered.
This is an incredible story, but not in a happy way. In a devastatingly sad way. It is extremely interesting and informative for the first hour and a half or so, which is about the rise and domination of Colombian international soccer, and the drug lords that financed it, the main one being Pablo Escobar. The players were just players, they didn't participate in any criminal activity whatsoever. The last half hour or so, is about the tragic murder of Andres Escobar, and the legacy he left behind. It also tells about what happened to Colombian soccer after Andres Escobar's death, and how it fell apart. It is without a doubt, the best documentary I have ever seen.
