The storyline with Jack and Kenneth interviewing candidates for a replacement to run the company is portrayed in a similar vein to that of the story in the movie, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971). Some of the lines in the episode are also directly lifted from the movie. For example, near the end, when Jack gives the position to Kenneth, "I've giving it to you, the whole thing" was a line from the movie.
The Episode Title is Jack's paraphrase of William Shakespeare's words from Act 5, Scene 1 of The Merchant of Venice - So shines a good deed in a naughty world. In Jack's sudden realization, Kenneth is like Portia's shining candle until now outshone by the greater light of others. Making a page into the (king) president of the network might be the ultimate goon tactic of Jack Donaghy.
