Liz wonders if she's actually on a date with Jack as she accompanies him to a birthday celebration for a foreign prince. While at the ball, Liz sees a different side to Jack as he unexpectedly runs in to his ex-wife. Back at 30 Rock, Tracy tempts Pete with a booze- and babe-filled party in the office, while Kenneth tries to keep Pete on the straight and narrow.

Oh my god was the inbred prince Pee Wee Herman LOL. This episode was the funniest thus far. Pete was really good and the Kenneth and Tracy acting like angel and devil was fun. The party was funny with Liz and Jack acting like a couple.
  • The show had a slightly different feel. Not bad at all, just different.

The episode was fun and funny, no doubt. I had a good time with it. But the characters and writing seemed a little out of synch. Kenneth seemed oddly aggressive and forthright, especially after thanking Tracy for shoving him at the beginning. Paul was wonderful as the prince, but the character seemed a little too surreal for the general scope of the show, and the Liz/Jack story was fun, but surprisingly cliché in a show generally so surprising in its choices.

Also, the individual storylines (Jenna, Pete and Liz) were all strong, but failed to connect with each other the way storylines generally do.

Despite this, the show still was strong. I enjoyed another fine installment and look forward to another episode.
  • One of the best episodes of the season

This episode was absolutely amazing. The European prince who had to lift his legs manually and Isabella Rossilini as Jacks's ex, it was an very well done. Every week I look forward to 30 Rock, and this week it outdid itself. It's easy to see why Alec Baldwin has won a clutch of awards for the show, and I can only see the show getting better. The storyline regarding Pete and Tracy was also entertaining and the scene with the Angel (Kenneth) and Devil (Tracy) was hilarious. Lets hope it continues to get better, and I'm looking forward to next week.
  • I was teetering on the edge of "do I like this show or not?". But when Paul Reubens came on as an inbred prince.... Sweet Mother...

Words cannot describe how happy I was when the commercials for the episode revealed that Paul Reubens, my hero, was going to be on the show. The best part was that he got to play a great roll that was definitely made just for him. The inbred Prince from some far off land is so awesome. The way he delivered the line "Thank You For Coming To My BURFFFDAY!!!" oh. my. God. Hillarious. If they keep pulling stunts like this, I'm going to keep watching. Just knowing that they're capable of this is going to make me add them to my thursday night routine. I love Paul Reubens, and thank you 30 Rock for giving the man a little face time! Great!

    30 Rock,

In this episode we find Jack and Liz, and jenna, going to a birthday party for a prince i think. Liz thinks she is on a date with Jack but cant be sure. Jack's ex wife is there too. Liz shows Jack that his ex wife stills has feell ings for him when she attacks Liz. Jenna by accident kills the prince.
  • The best episode, so far, IMHO!

Of course, that's not saying all that much!

The show is too predictable, and shockingly perverse, offering the viewer little more than stereotypical views of the aristocracy, homeboys, sluts, sycophants, etc, and this episode did nothing to improve on that.

However, it did offer us glimpses of the regulars that we haven't seen before: Liz breaking out of her shell by agreeing to go on a "date" with Jack; Jenna thinking she can marry the Prince - - who is anything but charming! - - and pass it off as being the greatest acting challenge of her career; meeting Jack's ex-wife, who he seems to miss, but doesn't mind giving her a jibe by introducing Liz as his live-in girlfriend; Pete's family life and his struggle to not live "down" to Tracy's level; Ken's protective nature asserting itself.

But, lame scenes just gave me one yawn after another: the who-hasn't-thought-about-it joke about slamming a box of jewelry on one's date's hand, which is an alleged satire of the similar scene from the movie "Pretty Woman"; having to squirm while voluptuous bimbos attempt to seduce a married man; the grotesqueness of the Prince's character (why didn't anyone at the party scowl in disgust when the Prince spit all over his birthday cake in an attempt to blow it out? and why didn't anyone other than the attendant show remorse at the Prince's demise?).

I have to give kudos to Paul (Pee Wee Herman) Rubens for his portrayal of the crippled but fun-loving Austrian Prince, and to Isabella Rossellini for giving a wonderful, natural performance as Jack's ex-wife! (whatever she got paid, NBC more than got their money's worth!)

Other than that, the show still isn't worth anything to me. They need to rid themselves of the stereotypes (as I said in my TV.com "show" review: where's the NAACP when you need it?) and be a LOT less predictable and trite.

Having said all that, this was the best episode I've seen, to date (take that with a grain of salt!).
  • Simply fantastic. This show yet again fails to disappoint.

This episode had me in stitches the whole way through. Firstly, the Liz/Jack situation of this episode was something I've been waiting on for a while. They have a strange chemistry and I kept thinking "is something going to happen?" the whole way through this episode.

Jenna's story this episode was also interesting. After trying to get invited to be noticed by the prince she gets in and finds out that he's not quite the fairy tale prince she was expecting. Unfortunately for her, the prince does notice her and she gets stuck with him. The prince, played by Paul Reubens, was fantastic. So decrepit due to inbreeding, and his tiny hand had me falling over.

Paul's dilemma with his wife was also great. I particularly enjoyed when Kenneth and Tracy put their heads through the vents, like the sterotypical angel and devil trying to tell him what to do.

Overall, this episode was fantastic to watch from start to finish, never suffered any droll moments, and left reeling for the next episode. Fantastic.
  • Wow....I love 30 Rock. Seriously, the other episodes have been pretty good and definitely showed the potential for a great show but this one tied it all together! Perfect episode.

I love 30 Rock. Seriously, the other episodes have been pretty good and definitely showed the potential for a great show but this one tied it all together! This was the perfect episode. 30 Rock is now my new favorite comedy. Scrubs is going down hill and the office didn't have a very good episode this week but 30 Rock never ceases to amaze me. This was a hilarious episode and I really think that 30 Rock is going to reach the level that The Office is at currently. From the hilarious story-line and out of the box punch-lines to the recurring joke of sexual tension between Jack and Liz this all came together for a killer episode. Long live 30 Rock!
  • 30 Rock has finally pulled together the perfect episode. The perfect balance of storytelling, character development, and the random humor everyone turns in for. An excellent episode.

I have faithfully stood by 30 Rock since the pilot episode and I've been disappointed by a few lack luster episodes, and I've fallen out of my chair from some great jokes. I know that every 30 Rock fan has stated time and time again that the series improves every episode, and it does, but I believe that with "Black Tie" the series has finally churned out a perfect episode. Every story had a beginning, a middle, and a proper ending, and the jokes were better than ever. Liz telling "yo mama" jokes. A softer side to Jack. Tracy and Kenneth serving as Pete's conscience. All excellent parts to an excellent episode.
