After a few episodes that left me feeling completely high and dry, this felt like a true return to the 30 Rock that I've grown to love over the last three or four years. Christmas episodes tend to bring the best out of shows and give them a new found energy, and that's exactly what I felt here.

It definitely didn't hurt to bring back Jack's parents. Colleen is always a hilarious addition to the show and an example of an awful yet hilarious mother. And I was surprised (pleasantly!) to see Alan Alda make a return as Milton. He hasn't been seen since the Season 3 finale and I'm glad the writers didn't completely forget about him. And he brings a weird sort of humor to the show.. he's not outright funny, but the things he says and the way he delivers the lines brings the laughs.

And I have to say, I really like what they're doing with Tracy this year. Him trying to act serious to win a Golden Globe is ridiculous (we all know how Tracy is) but it leads to some hilarious scenes, and the reference to Ludachristmas was great as well.

    Overall, a great episode of 30 Rock.moreless

I loved most of this episode even though I didn't like the main story line with Jack and his mother. I hate how big of a role parents randomly play on shows and isn't he too old to be playing such games with his parents. The whole dinner was pointless, but the heart attack bit was pretty funny. The end scene where Jack had his parents yelling at him was cliched, but brought it some of the xmas corniness that I like.

Tracy and Jenna had the best story lines and the costumes with the songs were hilarious and random which I really liked and Tracy's dilemma was great.moreless

Man, now I know why 30 Rock has to be unique. They tried to have the generic and cliched Christmas episode where the whole family comes together and fights, but they just failed miserably with it. Alan Alda looked completely clueless out there, and while I am sure Elaine Stritch will get an Emmy nomination (and possible win) for this performance, it was surely not a funny one. And will this Will Forte and Jenna relationship ever end? It's not funny, it is just embarrassing for all of the parties involved.

Come on 30 Rock, you're the best comedy on television...this is pathetic.moreless
