  • Jack Donaghey is desperate to sell Donaghey Estates sparkling wine.

Jack has invested in Donaghey Estates sparkling wine. Unfortunately, it tastes terrible. He tries to pass it off on the hip-hop community.

Jack read one of his negative reviews, which compares the flavor to "the urine of Satan." My husband and I replayed this line over at least five times on our TiVo. It's still one of our favorite ways to describe something that tastes bad.

Alec Baldwin's line delivery is so dry and perfectly timed. I find myself replaying many of his lines so I can laugh even more. The show's writers give him excellent material and he does it justice, every time.
  • Made me laugh the most

Jack forces Tracy to host the Source Awards. Meanwhile, Liz goes to great lengths to prove to her African-American date that she's not racist. Tracy acting like Oprah, Jck's bought disgusting champagne and Liz is a accused of being racist yep its another awesome episode of 30 Rock. This was by far the best episode of the first season of 30 Rock the ending was so unexpecting and it made me laugh so load and fo so long the funniest scene of the show to date. This is easily got to get a 10 out of 10 from me. Top form.
  • What a great farce

Whenever a show on the ropes, like 30 Rock, gets guest stars in order to boost ratings, it's a difficult game to play. However, LL Cool J was a great choice to play Ridikulous. Tracy's description of Ridikulous (that he bit Suge Knight, held Raven-Symone over a balcony, and made Rasheed Wallace cry) is priceless.

This episode should insure that 30 Rock has a long a prosperous tenure on NBC. Excellent wording choices like "after-after-after-after-after party" and "death by chocolate" are a testiment to the writing skills of Tina Fey and the entire writing team. After watching this episode, I was hooked for good, and you will be too.

what can I say it made me laugh alot. Alec Baldwin and Tracy Morgan rock this show,Tina Fey has grown in her acting. LL Cool J and Ghost Face Killah did a great job in their guest star roles and Wayne Brady Always Delivers He needs A show of his own to shine. The whole cast of 30 rock really brings it every week sometimes I have to watch twice in one night to catch everything that I missed the first time I hope the show continues to bring the funny each week it's one of the few good things on
  • Not my favorite one.

    30 Rock,

Not my favorite one i didn't find this one very funny. In it we find Liz going on a date but as she goes along her date thinks she is rasis. Kennith makes a enemy and Tracy gets forced in getting to host The Source Awards. While he acts like Oprah for no reason really. Jack buys A wine vinor and has nasty wine. Not a funny episode.
  • This episode is one of the reasons I think it can replace my need for Arrested Development on TV.

Before the season started, I thought that 30 Rock might be a good show. But after the first couple of episodes my optimism died down a little. But lately they have been on a roll. This episode just continues the streak of great episodes. I started laughing in the beginning and I didn't stop till the end. After I finished watching the show I was still laughing remembering some parts of the episode. This show is obviously not Arrested Development, but I think that it is the closest thing to on TV right now. And that is a good thing. I just hope it is given a bigger chance than Arrested Development.
  • painful at times to watch, an unfortunate step back for a show that has been to now improving steadily.

    "Great"
In its short life, 30 Rock has shown itself to be a far funnier and more interesting show than I had originally predicted. While the first episodes were inconsistent, the show has tightened up immensely and for the last month has delivered some of the best situation comedy available on television today.

Which is why I was disappointed in "The Source Awards." It is the first episode where the characters seem to be playing mere caricatures of themselves. The secondary stories - Donaghy's pathetic and doomed quick buck scheme, Tracy's quasi-insane machinations to avoid death at the hands of hip-hop culture - are stilted at best. Both Jordan and Donaghy seem to be merely going through the motions.

Lemon's interracial relationship with Steve Black (Wayne Brady) is a painful to watch exercise in white guilt, built on some fear that all liberals are subconscious racists terrified that their well constructed facades will be pulled away to reveal a clan member. Fey seems to deals best with racial issues when race is in the background. Griz and Dot Com are hilarious characters who effectively send up both "entourage chic" and white preconceptions about young black men. To this point, "30 Rock" has displayed a fun, comedic, and at times insightful understanding of race in America.

In "The Source Awards," however, Lemon's discomfort in dealing with racial issues is apparently echoed by Fey. Far from its brilliant take on gender and sexuality in "Blind Date", when the show attempts to take on the race issue head-on it becomes as nervous and stilted as Lemon is when confronting her personal dislike of Steve. By contorting the "non-black" black guy into a contemptible nerd who abuses the racial sensitivities of others to get what he wants, "The Source Awards" can potentially be read to give the wrong message - that atypical African Americans are less authentic than their stereotypical counterparts. By the way, how many times has Mr. Brady been called upon to play the "non-black" black guy? It is getting a little old. Employing Brady in this role brings natural comparison to Brady's previous role as a stereotype-challenging version of himself in "Chappelle's Show". This episode of "30 Rock" does not fare well in the comparison.

All this being said, the episode is at times funny and I am eager for the next episode.
  • Great episode. I love how they tackled the theme of people overreacting about everything and calling it racism.

This was a fantastic episode. The cold open with the "After-after Party" joke was kind of funny but it kind of got old. Luckily, the episode only went up from there. There were some really great Jack line this week which made up for last week not having many. The best one, by far was his scene with Tina about Steven's last name being Black:

Jack: Well, well, well Lemon. Steven's a good man. He's on partner track at Dewey, and he's a Black.

Liz: A black!? That is offensive!

Jack: No. No, that's his last name: Steven Black. Great family.

    Liz: Oh, yeah, of course.

Jack: They're remarkable people, the Blacks: musical, very athletic, not very good swimmers. Again, I'm talking about the family. Black is African-American, though.

Kenneth kind of seemed out of character in this episode because I don't really see him doing any of those things but LL Cool J did a ridiculously good job of playing Ridikolus and I hope that character gets some more screen time later in the season. Overall, I think the thing that made the episode was Jack's reaction to the "Wait 'til I tell Tupac about this" line. It really made that joke what it is. I hope someday I have the chance to use that line.

I want some Donaghy Estate wine right now! I don't care if it tastes like the urine of Satan after a large helping of asparagus. It's not the taste that matters! It's the image!
