  • Dick is eaten by jell-o, Mary's an alien, and Sally kills Don, whom is really a chicken.

    10
Dick and Sally experience dreams for the first time, but since they have no idea what a "dream" really is the assume they are losing their minds.

Dick is plagued by the idea of Mary going off to Borneo for a year, and considers telling her his secret and proposing to her. Meanwhile, Sally emasculates Don when she brings a wanted criminal to the police station, in a shopping cart with his hands bound by panty hose. Don is mad because if he'd caught the guy himself he would've been made detective.

Dick's Dream: A horrifying collision of classical music and being eaten alive. Dick is being dragged by Nina, Judith, Leon, and Pitman, to get the truth out of him. He gets brought to a torture device, where he meets Mary, dressed in a dominatrix outfit with white hair and a German accent. It cuts to Mary and Dick in bed, where Mary rips off her face to "reveal" that she too is an alien. A horrific, bug-like alien. Dick runs off into a field of flowers, until he lands on a desolate alien planet and is devoured whole by a giant wall of jell-o.

Sally's Dream: A surreal, black-and-white, Fellini-esque dream spoken in both Italian and English. Sally arrives out an airplane, being photographed and cheered by her adoring public. Sally is, literally, given the world on a plate. After taking a bite out of it, she declares that it is "delicious... yet disturbing". She then begins dancing with Don, until she pulls... feathers, out of his collar. She rips his shirt open, and finds his chest is covered in feathers. Don "reveals" that he is a chicken, and Sally shoots him straight in the chest, declaring that she could never love poultry.

After both their dreams, Dick and Sally are completely frantic and freaked out, assuming that the events in their dreams have happened in the real world. When they learn that everything is normal, they assume that they are going insane. The two of them wind up doping up on pills and become carefree and whispy. Tommy and Harry take control and decide that they need to go back to the home planet to have their bodies inspected and repaired.moreless

    • Dick: Yes! My X-ray glasses! Look out, women of Rutherford. From now on, Dick Solomon no longer has to use his imagination.

    • Sally: Don, what happens to people? Are they born mad or one day do their minds just snap?
Don: If only we knew, Sally. One minute little Johnny Normal is on his paper route, the next minute is a pile of dead bank guards and Johnny is using grandma as a human shield.

    • The episode won 3 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Costume Design for a Series and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy Series or a Special.

    • In Latin America, this episode's title was translated into "Pesadilla En La Calle Dick: Primera Parte", which was an exact translation.

    • When originally aired, a few scenes in this episode were extended, and there were some extended lines.
These scenes included Harry getting a call from the Big Giant Head about "extended warranty" for their earth bodies, a scene where the aliens talked about what they have learnt on earth, a scene right after Dick's dream where the aliens discuss whether they should have taken the warrenty or not, and Sally telling Tommy and Harry that she is tired of this planet and goes to bed (while Harry calls the Big Giant Head).

These scenes are present on the VHS edition of A Nightmare on Dick Street (which included the 3D glasses) as well as the Region 2 second season DVD set.

    • The 3D version of this episode is included on the 2nd season DVD released in the UK. Two pairs of 3D glasses are included in the set.

    • NBC originally presented this episode with the dream sequences in 3-D, which required use of the classic '50s red and green plastic glasses. The Collectors Edition VHS tape of this episode include a pair of glasses, un-aired footage and outtakes, and a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the 3-D dream sequences.
