Dick: Yes! My X-ray glasses! Look out, women of Rutherford. From now on, Dick Solomon no longer has to use his imagination.
Sally: Don, what happens to people? Are they born mad or one day do their minds just snap?
Don: If only we knew, Sally. One minute little Johnny Normal is on his paper route, the next minute is a pile of dead bank guards and Johnny is using grandma as a human shield.
The episode won 3 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Costume Design for a Series and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy Series or a Special.
In Latin America, this episode's title was translated into "Pesadilla En La Calle Dick: Primera Parte", which was an exact translation.
Since the 3-D episodes included some regular scenes, along with the special effects scenes, one cannot tell if the regular scenes were shot with a studio audience, or if a laugh track was put in.
When originally aired, a few scenes in this episode were extended, and there were some extended lines.
These scenes included Harry getting a call from the Big Giant Head about "extended warranty" for their earth bodies, a scene where the aliens talked about what they have learnt on earth, a scene right after Dick's dream where the aliens discuss whether they should have taken the warrenty or not, and Sally telling Tommy and Harry that she is tired of this planet and goes to bed (while Harry calls the Big Giant Head).
These scenes are present on the VHS edition of A Nightmare on Dick Street (which included the 3D glasses) as well as the Region 2 second season DVD set.
The 3D version of this episode is included on the 2nd season DVD released in the UK. Two pairs of 3D glasses are included in the set.
NBC originally presented this episode with the dream sequences in 3-D, which required use of the classic '50s red and green plastic glasses. The Collectors Edition VHS tape of this episode include a pair of glasses, un-aired footage and outtakes, and a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the 3-D dream sequences.
