      • (the family is sitting around the living room and the phone rings. Tommy answers)
Tommy: Yes, Harry Solomon lives here (covers mouthpiece) Harry, it's for you.
Harry: Oh my G-d, my first phone call! How's my hair look?

      • Dick: With physics, you know when you have the right answer!
        Leon: I never do.

      • Tommy: Kinda makes you want to scream at the top of your lungs, doesn't it?
        Dick: LET'S SIT OVER THERE!
Sally: NO, I LIKE THIS TABLE! IT'S IN THE SHADE!
        Tommy: LOOK, THERE'S A BUTTERFLY!
Harry: HEY, SALLY! IT'S YOUR FRIEND DON!

      • Sally: Shouldn't we all vote?
Dick: Don't want to arouse suspicion. One in four seems right.

      • Harry: They want me to run for city council.
        Sally: What's city council?
Harry: Well, I think it's some sort of council, here in the city.

      • Harry: Hi, I'm Harry Solomon. A simple mind for a simple people.

      • Harry: Vote for Harry S. Solomon. The 'S' stands for 'know-how'. (pause) I'm sorry, 'snow-how'.

      • Frank Gansmiller: (about Harry) Damn! No past, no experience, no record... the perfect candidate.

      • Officer Don: Your brother is playing with matches and that's how fires start.
Sally: I know my way around a hose.

      • Frank Gansmiller: What'll it take for you to drop out of the race.
Harry: Well, don't ask me. I'm not the one who makes the decisions.
        Frank Gansmiller: You don't?
Harry: No, never had, never will. I just sort of follow orders.
        Frank Gansmiller: Whose orders?
Harry: Well, we sort of have a leader?
        Frank Gansmiller: We?
        Harry: The family.
Frank Gansmiller: The family. (pause as Gansmiller realizes the implications of this) Thank you, Solomon, thank you very much.

      • Dick: So, how many times do I get to vote?
        Registrar: One time.
Dick: And it doesn't matter that I'm brilliant?
        Registrar: No.
Dick: Have you noticed how tall I am?
Registrar: We all get one vote.
Dick: You mean your opinion counts equally with mine?
        Registrar: You got it.
Dick: You're awfully smug for a man who works at a folding table.

      • Dick: What's the point of having a democracy, if everybody's going to vote wrong?
