Dear panel of the 7pm Project,
I am writting to you about the ongoing issue of affordable housing here in Australia and particular; Melbourne.
Myself and my sons were evicted from our home in April of this year and so far have moved about so many times my head is dizzy.
I''m just wondering if others out there like myself have had to deal with excessively high rents ie: paying upto $280 per room for a family and $150 and above for a single room with shared kitchen/bathroom.
My problem is this........the rental that my family was evicted from in April this year I was paying $290 per week and had to place my other possessions into storage at $120 per week of which I'm finding it difficult to pay at times because I am on a low income.
It's been hard enough to emotoinaly and finacialy sustain this for my family and myself and I feel that I'm not the only one who has issues with the out of reach pricess for a roof over our heads and not to mention the unsavory types that we have come across since April.
Is there not a controll over how much rent one should pay for just one room?
Please could you look into this issue, because this is not fair on people who have come into bad times.
Thank you for reading.
Louise Jenkins
