  • A wonderful episode!

Eric and Annie encounter Dr. Hastings at the hospital. He was the doctor who delivered and almost killed Matt. They thought they could never forgive him, but they were wrong. Nigel sleeps over but is annoyed at how all Simon talks about is Deena. He gets butterfly combs for their 3 month anniversary, but he accidentally loses them. Rod, Lucy's ex-boyfriend, shows up and asks to stay with them because his mother just died and he is mad at his dad. Matt finds out that Heather's back in town. When he goes to see her, he gets bad news that she's engaged. Mary pretends to be calling Wilson to get other guys to call her. Michael Towner calls her and they actually kiss.

This was a wonderful episode! I love all the plots going on! If I were Nigel, I'd probably be pretty bored! I feel so bad for Rod. I actually love the idea of Mary and Michael Towner together! He reminds me of Nathan from One Tree Hill. A big jerk in the beginning, but he changes because of a girl. This episode gets a 10 out of 10!moreless
  • Rod shows up at the Camdens. His mom just died and has nowhere else to go. Mary and Lucy hide him in their closet(but not forever). Mary goes out and meets Michael Towner(the guy who she flushed his head down the toilet and hit her with his car).moreless

Rod's mom died and shows up at the Camdens. Lucy and Mary agree to hide him in their closet. Simon can't seem to find Deena a 3 month anniversary gift. Nigel can't stand Simon obsessing over it all weekend. Ruthie sees Rod and immediatly wants to go and tell Annie but Mary and Lucy throw her into their room in order for her not to spoil the secret. Lucy tries to confort Rod by saying she feels his pain. "I know what you're going through I lost my friend last year." Rod responds by saying "You lost your friend you didn't lose your mother." Ruthie seems to help him by saying "I lost my hamster once." "He died?" "No I just lost him." Annie and Eric go into Lucy's room to tell her about Rod and discover Ruthie talking to him. Ruthie steals the butterfly haircombs Simon bought for Deena but eventually he lets her keep them. I think Rod finally is mature in this episode. He's finally normal. This is the first episode where he actually seems normal. I thought this episode was very well played.moreless

  • QUOTES (12)

    • Eric: After Dr. Hastings…
      Matt: Almost killed me?
Eric: He left the practice. We assumed he had either lost his medical license or had been fired. But I guess we were wrong because there he was tonight, white coat and all.
Matt: Maybe you should almost kill him.
      Eric: Maybe.

    • Lucy: You know, your dateless situation is kind of ironic when you were going out with Wilson, guys were always calling and asking you out, but now that you don't have a boyfriend… have you been out?
      Mary: Yeah.
Lucy: Oh yeah that's right, you went out with Jordan before I did. Did I mention that this the best year of my life?

    • Ruthie: Simon and Deena sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g… I'm a very good speller.

    • Ruthie: I lost my hamster once.
      Rod: He died?
Ruthie: No I just lost him. I know it's not the same but I didn't know what else to say.

    • Simon: (to Matt about his new pants) Ehhh, they make you look too hippy. In too hippy as in 60's, I wasn't saying you have a big butt.

    • Annie: You're a miracle you know that, don't you?
      Matt: Tough pre-registration?
Eric: We saw the doctor who delivered you.
Matt: Oh, the one who almost killed me, Dr. Hastings? Well I guess that explains Mom's turbo hug.

    • Rod: I didn't know where else to go. My mom just died.
Lucy: I know what you're going through. I lost my friend last year.
Rod: You lost your friend, you didn't lose your mother.
Lucy: Everybody deals with death in their own way.

    • Matt: How are you?
      Heather: Engaged.

    • Dr. Hastings: I know you're angry with me, and frankly, I don't blame you.
Annie: Well, I do blame you. And why all the politeness? We didn't come here to enjoy afternoon tea. This is not something I wanted to do, but now that I am here I want some answers. Answers to questions that I have had for 20 years!
      Dr. Hastings: Ask me anything.
Annie: Why didn't you listen to me that night? I knew something was wrong. The nurse knew that something was wrong. You saw that my blood pressure was...
Dr. Hastings: ... was dangerously high, and you were exhibiting all the classic signs of Eclampsia, but I hadn't seen Eclampsia happen during labor. But I was nervous and scared and too inexperienced to be dealing with your labor. I should've called in another doctor. But unfortunately, my ego was more developed than my medical training. There is no pretty to say this, I... screwed... up.
Annie: Then why didn't you at least apologize for endangering my life and almost killing my son. He was in an incubator for a month!
Dr. Hastings: I didn't apologize because I didn't have the guts to face either of you. So I ran away.
Annie: You shouldn't be practicing medicine.
Dr. Hastings: You're absolutely right. When I was 28 I had no business being a doctor. I didn't believe in God before that night. But I knew someone saved you and it wasn't me. Someone was definately watching out for me, for all of us. I knew I wanted to practice medicine, but I knew I didn't have the training. So I went back to medical school for another thre year residency. After I finished that, because of you and your son, I decided to dedicate my professional life to working with high risk babies. Three months ago I got a call from Glenoak Hospital, they wanted me to head up their new Neonatal unit. At first I didn't want to do it because I was afraid I might run into you and I want to cause any more pain.

    • Annie: God works in mysterious ways, doesn't he?
      Eric: Yes he does.

    • Rod: Can I ask you something? Did you go to your mom's funeral?
Annie: Yes I did. But it was very tough for me.
Rod: I never been to a funeral. Do you think I should go?
Annie: It's not if you should or shouldn't, but if you want to, after church we'll go with you. You've already been strong for you mother, and that's more than a young man should have to do. But you have a father. And while it probably seems like he should be looking after you, right now for whatever reason, he can't. And I think he needs you right now, even if he isn't asking.
Rod: I just don't know if I have any strength left, you know? I just feel like I'm done.
Annie: It's okay. It's all right. Whatever you decide your father will understand.
      Rod: I really miss her.
      Annie: I know.

    • Eric: (to his Congregation) It's just that we're all doing the best we can, considering who we are at any given moment... every single one of us and that includes the other guy. The guy who has offended us yesterday, a year ago, 20 years ago. It took a young man who's only 15 and in the depths of mourning to remind me of that, and I in turn am reminding you...I encourage you..to make this a week of reconciliation. Amen.
