Simon like Mary became a troubled Camden child so he got written out of the show.
Not so. He appeared in all of the seaasons except Season 11. Season 10 was even primarily about him (It ended with his (almost) wedding.). Even in Season 11, it wasn't that he was "troubled." The show was renewed at the last minute, and contracts were reduced. So, the actor who played Simon decided to move on.
Besides, by Season 11, Simon was considerably less troubled than he had been a couple seasons earlier, and even seemed to be turning a corner on his problems. On top of that, for tv characters, even on 7th Heaven, troubled is good. It makes them more interesting, if done right, and makes it more meaningful when they overcome their troubles, and are whole again, and stronger than before.
